im afraid im gonna have to say the nail is being driven in.
Life in technicolor = strangelove
Well, they are big fans of DM. The first time I heard LIT I thought the chord progression in the beginning sounded familiar but couldn't place it. But yeah, now that I think of it, it's quite similar to that big synth hook in Strangelove. Hmmm...

wtf happened to my LiT = Strangelove thread?
dont be afraid to wallow in your shame coldplay. you made this bed
It's here: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2512973#post2512973
In the LiT discussion section
id say its a little more than quite similar
It's a little similar I guess, but there's only many sequences of notes that can be played before they start to repeat.
If you looked hard enough I'd bet you could find a counterpart to most songs written these days
Am I the only one who thinks they sound completely different? :uhoh:
Or maybe I'm listening to the wrong song?
Yup, Coldplay are heartless bastards and ripped off Depeche Mode. I hope they get sued for millions. [/removes tongue from cheek]
It's funny, cos you're sarcastic!:laugh3:
Getting really sick of these comparisons. Everytime someone makes them I expect to hear a blantent rip off. What you have here is THREE notes at the end of a PHRASE that are the same for ONE measure. Obviously the people who make these comparisons do not play in bands or have ANY music theory what so ever so for those you who think is heres a little lesson for you:
In music there are TWELVE notes to choose from.
Depending on the key of the composition there is less than 12 to choose from
THREE notes in sequence together and a similar synth progression for 10 seconds does NOT constitute as a rip off
Take a look at clocks, you hear similar progressions EVERYWHERE. Why? because in a 4/4 time signature it is an easy/popular arrpegio to use.
Please, just stop
I agree, whatever similarity you hear in the descending notes is coincidental and anything but a a blatant rip-off. three common notes does not a rip-off make, and nothing else about the song sounds remotely like LIT.
Two COMPLETELY different songs!
WHO CARES!!!!......coldplay didnt even do that song that guy hopkins did!!!!!
Hmm....they don't even sound similar to me at all. *sigh*
DM stangelove? doesn't sound like CP's Lit2 to me
it has been said here before: CP like DM.... but honestly i think DM has copied OMD a lot. :uhoh:
Kind of the same as the whole Satriani mess. You can't build a legal argument off of a few notes which sound somewhat similar.
Separate names with a comma.
