LP5 update: Chris Martin confident about new Coldplay record (full Fantastico interview online)

The abridged Fantastico interview that was aired last month for TV Globo in Brazil has been released in full online, and in it Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland talked at length about the new record due in December, and how previous album reviews have shaped the way they go about the recording process. Watch (in English) the full 20 minute Fantastico interview with Chris and Jonny in the first post of the thread here at the Coldplay forum. You can also find links to download the full interview in the Multimedia forum here [thanks SueDeNimes, iriden & mimixxx]

Coldplay are currently working on new material for their next album in their studio in London after arriving back from their Latin America tour last week. So what of the new record? Chris Martin seems convinced that it will be a success, but the band won't be releasing anything until they're ready. He said, "We'll make sure now we don't release anything until we're 100% convinced by it. Why do we sell records? I don't know but we try as hard as we can to make them good. The one we're making now is really good - it probably won't sell a lot because people don't buy records any more, but it's got good songs on it."

Round-up: Guy Berryman co-producing The Pierces' album, Fix You for Earth Song 2010, Liam ...

Guy Berryman is co-producing The Pierces' new album with Rick Simpson, according to Michael Brauer, the man who mixed Coldplay's last album, Viva la Vida. Brauer was the one to reveal Guy's involvement with a tweet yesterday, and will also be involved in mixing The Pierces' effort. The Pierces are two sisters from Alabama, and the new album will be their fourth. More on this news is at the Coldplay forum here [thanks iriden]

Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher has attacked Coldplay's and U2's dress sense, according to the NME today. The former Oasis singer said he hates what the bands wear onstage, and the fact they've been styled. "I can tell bands who've been styled a mile off. U2?" he explained, adding: "There's no way you bought that jacket is there, Bono? Coldplay, they're at it too." Pretty tame language for the Pretty Green clothing range founder. Join in the Liam bashing at the forum here [thanks Corkus]

Finally, Coldplay's Fix You is the featured music track behind the official video for Earth Hour 2010. You can watch the trailer at the forum now. Don't forget to turn off your lights on March 27th!
Back in 1999, Coldplay released the Brothers & Sisters EP, via UK independent label Fierce Panda. The band have remained firm supporters of the label, and they've asked the official site to let you know about Wolves And Thieves, the terrific debut album by folk-rockers Goldheart Assembly, which is out on Fierce Panda this week.
Watch a Coldplay in Barcelona 2009 trailer from Done and Dusted (for a live DVD perhaps?!)

Done and Dusted, the DVD company behind the release of Coldplay's live 2003 DVD, has uploaded a trailer online to their website for Coldplay from back in 2009 when they played in Barcelona, sparking further rumours that a DVD from the Viva la Vida era will be released. The clip shows a three minutes live performance of Viva la Vida, and includes various audience shots as well as panoramic views from behind the stage.

It is still unknown whether this news will be officially confirmed or if the DVD will also include footage from other stadium shows, including Paris, Wembley and the Latin America concerts, but you can watch the Done and Dusted trailer via D&D's Youtube channel at the Coldplay forum now.

Coldplay apparently filmed the Barcelona concert for a live DVD, Spanish media newspapers widely reported before the concert, and according to the sources, the filming process took place place with a sophisticated camera system that included a high crane installed outside the stadium to capture aerial views of the show.
I've seen him play the drums and he's pretty good. As it's not his instrument of choice we won't be seeing it in the future!
Speaking to E! News, Murphy said that Coldplay and Bryan Adams had refused permission to use their tracks, but revealed that Lady GaGa will be covered soon. Glee returns to the US on April 13 on Fox and continues in the UK on Mondays at 9pm on E4.
"We're doing an episode that's a tribute to theatricality," he explained. "We reached out to Lady GaGa and she said, 'Yes, I'd love to be a part of it'. So we will be doing Lady GaGa this season."
March 15, 2010 - submitted by Flor, Argentina
Q. I'm so curious... what really happened to the puppets? Was the tequila as I've heard? Or the atmosphere in Bogota? It seems that the tour got them tired a lot! Poor puppets... I think they deserve some rest :) Haha .. I really hope you enjoyed the whole tour, thanks a lot for coming. See you soon ... ..We love you! :D
The Oracle replies:
I blame the altitude! I will let you into a secret. I actually left Chris' leg in the back of a car in Rio; it had fallen off and I hadn't noticed. We were reunited very quickly and the following day he was given to the crew carpenter as he had a severe head injury; basically the back of it had come apart. As you can see the puppets took a beating on this gruelling tour and sadly didn't quite make it until the end. It's a shame they weren't photographed well in Guadalajara and of course at all in Monterrey.

So there we have it folks. There goes the final whistle. The fat lady has sung and the world's Vida has been well and truly Viva-ed. Summing up two years of your life in a few words is a little like trying to mow a lawn using only scissors. I could try, but I'd pretty soon have sore fingers and give up. All I know is that I'm ready for a day or two of sleep...

Off the top of my head, I'd say that I'll remember this campaign as the one where Coldplay finally made friends with stadium gigs. They haven't joined the old guard in the greatest hits shows just yet. They also haven't joined the stadium rock arms race of selling tickets on the strength of "having a longer power cable than The Stones used on their 1998 tour - previously the most extensive stretch of copper used on a rock show..."
