Two males have been taken to hospital, one in serious condition, after both were slashed in the neck during the Coldplay concert at Calgary's Saddledome in Canada last night. The two men had their throats cut as what was supposed to be a good time at the Coldplay concert turned violent.

The incident happened inside the Saddledome at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, as the concert was winding down. One of the patients was taken by paramedics to Foothills Medical Centre with serious injuries, while the other was taken to Rockyview General Hospital with 'less serious' injuries, police said. "We're not sure if it was a fight or an assault or what happened. There have been a number of people detained at the scene and our members are interviewing them to ascertain what happened," said duty inspector Craig Skelton.

Adele and Coldplay helped boost homegrown album sales in 2011, various sources are reporting this week in the UK. The acts'

respective efforts, along with other major releases from Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Amy Winehouse and Olly Murs, accounted for

52.7% of sales in the UK last year. Each of the above artists sold over 500,000 copies of their records in Britain, with

Coldplay selling near to a million copies of Mylo Xyloto and Adele selling close to four million copies of 21.

The new figures mean that UK artists have claimed the highest share of British album sales in 15 years. US artists - along

with releases from Lady GaGa, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Kanye West - accounted for a third of all UK sales, with Canadian releases

from Michael Buble and Justin Bieber claiming 4.5%. Meanwhile, Rihanna single handedly puts Barbados in fourth place after

claiming 2.3% of all sales with her Loud and Talk That Talk albums.

George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Martin Scorsese are among the stars lined up to appear on Jimmy Kimmel's post-Oscars show on

Sunday, February 26.

The seventh annual Jimmy Kimmel Live: After The Academy Awards special will also welcome Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren,

Charlize Theron, Don Cheadle and Oscars host Billy Crystal.

Coldplay will draw the show to a close with a block party performance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live outdoor stage. The show will

broadcast from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood after the Academy Awards and late local news. Scorsese's Hugo is this

year's leading Oscars nominee with recognition in 11 categories including 'Best Picture' and 'Best Director' for Scorsese.

The Artist, Clooney's The Descendants, Moneyball and War Horse are also multiple nominees, while Streep has been nominated

in the 'Best Actress' category for her role in The Iron Lady. The Oscars air live from the Kodak Theatre on Sunday,

As Chris Martin sang "Auld Lang Syne", Jay-Z went up the stage at close to midnight to ring in the New Year during their double-billed show, writes the Ace Showbiz in a featured review of Coldplay's second show at the Barclays Center in New York (31 December). After exchanging hugs with Chris, Jay took over the stage from Coldplay, who had a riot of a performance with lots of color and movement, in contrast to the rapper who was alone on stage and was mostly standing throughout his performance as he spit his rhymes.

Coldplay kicked off the concert at 10pm and played a 15-song set, to the delight of a packed Barclays Center. The venue lit up as fans were each given bracelets that had multi-colored lights that blinked in step. The crowd sang along with the band as they dished out their hits "The Scientist" and "Paradise", as confetti canons and world map beach balls were rolled out. Rihanna appeared in the screens put up around the arena as the band performed "Princess of China".

If You’re the kind of person that thinks of rock ‘n’ roll as the language of society’s outsiders, kicking back against the world in the loudest and most obnoxious way possible, then you should never, ever go and see Coldplay, writes the NY Post in a featured review of Coldplay's first show at the Barclays Center in New York (30 December 2012). For some time, the British band has been a well-oiled entertainment machine, and last night at Barclays Center their vast array of bells and whistles took up almost as much focus as any of their songs. There probably isn’t a crowd in the world that Chris Martin can’t coax into excitement and even though the band is due to play a New Year’s Eve show at Barclays with Jay-Z tonight, the front man was determined to get the party started early. “No one ever spares a thought for poor old December 30th,” he chirped. “Tomorrow’s just a ‘warm down’ for this show!”

Is Chris Martin the hardest-working Brit in show business? There the singer was, Saturday night at Mohegan Sun, breaking a sweat literally after the first song of Coldplay's concert, writes The Day in another featured review of Coldplay's show at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT (29 December 2012). He didn't just play guitar. He hopped and sprang while he did, doubling over or throwing his head back. When he took to the piano for songs like "Paradise," he didn't merely tap the keys. He thumped them, and he bounced on the stool. He bounded down the stage runway with his so-unhip-they're-hip dance moves and then dropped to his knees and bent backwards like a latter-day Springsteen.

He made sure to play to every part of the arena — scampering up to the top tier to perform a couple of songs, taking a few tours around the ramp behind the stage to give audience members back there their due...

Chris Martin wanted to make December 29th a date to remember; he used his bully pulpit at the sold out Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday night to lobby for "humble December 29" to be revered in the way we think of more prominent annual dates like December 25, December 31, and July 4, writes Mass Live in a featured review of Coldplay's show at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT (29 December 2012). "We want to make this the most memorable night of your life," he declared at the outset of a 90 minute performance. "So every year when December 29 rolls around, you will celebrate."

Whether or not the 10,000 or so fans gathered in the Connecticut woods will be holding an annual celebration remains to be seen, but Coldplay made a solid effort at turning an ordinary arena concert into something memorable. Yes there were a lot of props and lasers and suspended video boards that some might consider gimmicky. But sometimes gimmicky equates to memorable...

Ology's LP6 preview: What to expect on Coldplay's sixth album

Despite rumours to the contrary, Coldplay will not, in fact, be taking a three-year break now that they've almost finished their extensive world tour behind last year's Mylo Xyloto, writes Ology in their blog already previewing Coldplay's sixth studio album. Read on for the rest of the article...

As clarified by NME, Chris Martin recently told an Australian audience that they'd be away for three years. (Translation: it'll be another three years before Coldplay writes, records, releases a new album and then makes it back down under on their next tour. Isn't all that confusing to me, but whatever, shrug.)

Instead, the band will head back into the studio to begin work on their sixth and definitely easier to pronounce album. In the meantime, the inevitable guessing game begins: where can Coldplay take their ever-changing sound next? Even deeper into the dense modern pop textures of Mylo Xyloto, or back to the lush post-Britpop acoustics of their early work? Let's weigh a few possibilities…

Naked Brisbane man finds Paradise at recent Coldplay concert, fined $800

We all know that Coldplay can have a pretty strong affect on their followers, and an Australian fan did his best to prove this point at the band’s recent visit down under for their Mylo Xyloto tour, writes Tone Deaf, Australian music magazine.

You will remember that Coldplay played a string of massive stadium shows last month, with the Tone Deaf reviewer labelling the Sydney leg a 'successful night of undying spirit and celebration [that] proved they’re worthy of the title of the biggest band in the world.'

One 34-year-old Brisbane fanatic seemed to agree, experiencing an unfortunately-timed rush of blood to the head that led to him stripping naked and assaulting a security guard at the show at Suncorp Stadium, as Stuff.co.nz reports. His excuse? "Coldplay made me do it." Well, the reviewer did label the Sydney show 'euphoric and boundless.'

December 20, 2012 - submitted by Anon, United States of America
Q. I was watching the 12.12.12 concert last night and of course, Chris was phenomenal. I was wondering... when performing those types of events, what goes in to choosing the songs performed? Is it based on time allowed or relevancy to the event? Odd question I know, but I'm a curious sort. Thanks!! Tracy
The Oracle replies:
Both of those things and other factors are taken into account when performing at such an event. The set list is always an important consideration regardless of the show. The suitability of the song, the audience - it's not always going to be a crowd of Coldplay fans - and the practicality of performing it solo / unplugged / with a guest.

December 20, 2012 - submitted by Veronica, Argentina
Q. Hello Oracle! I want to know something. Is Coldplay Essential an official album?
The Oracle replies:
No; all the official recordings are on this website in the Recordings section. The band have never released any kind of Greatest Hits.

Last.fm is celebrating a decade of scrobbling with a data haul encompassing the last decade of music – and Coldplay have come out winners, it has been revealed by MusicWeek in the past few days.

Coldplay have been crowned as the most popular act on the platform over the last 10 years while Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit was the most popular track. British music dominated both artists and tracks of the last decade, with half of the Top 10 Best Artists of the Decade hailing from the UK.

Along with Coldplay, three other British acts – The Beatles, Radiohead and Muse - dominate the top spots on the list and seven of the Top 10 tracks are performed by British artists including Oasis, Kings of Leon and Muse. Despite the strong British presence on the list, Lady Gaga is the only solo artist to appear in the Top 10 Artists and Top 10 Songs list from the past decade.

December 13, 2012 - submitted by Amber, United Kingdom
Q. Hello Oracle, Do you know when this photo was taken and the context behind it? Thanks :)
The Oracle replies:
Back in 2006 the band were at The Brits and during one acceptance speech (they won 2 awards that night), Chris mentioned they'd be away for a while. The following morning a certain British tabloid ran the front page headline "COLDPLAY QUIT". Miller (a.k.a Roadie #42) took the photo of the band to show their surprise at hearing the news - which was of course false. We posted the photo on this website and that's pretty much it. It's worth bearing in mind that if / when Chris mentions taking time off, it doesn't mean a split or a long hiatus.

December 13, 2012 - submitted by Carmen, Italy
Q. Dear Oracle, I don't know you but I'm watching the 12.12.12 concert and I'm crying. I just finished to watch Chris and Michael Stipe and, omg, goosebumps everywhere! Did you watch the concert? How you feel about it? I hope you're fine and I wish you happy holidays!
The Oracle replies:
Awww, that's lovely, Carmen. I haven't seen it yet myself but if it's anything like Chris & Michael's previous performances together, I will probably well up too!

Chris Martin joined forces with R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe for a special performance of ‘Losing My Religion’ during the 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief at Madison Square Garden last night, writes Diffuser in a review of the benefit event. You can discuss all the performances at the Coldplay Live forum now (and also watch Chris Martin via YouTube if you missed it!) [thanks to everyone who contributed throughout!]

According to NBC anchor Brian Williams, who appeared onscreen soon after to solicit donations, the team-up was a surprise even to those involved with the planning, and Chris himself seemed humbled to share the stage with one of his heroes. "This is really happening," Chris said, strumming the opening chords to R.E.M.’s biggest hit. Stipe handled most of the lead vocals, but the pair harmonized in spots, and when it was over, Chris poked fun at his duet partner’s recent lack of musical output, saying: "He came out of retirement for that song, and now he’s gone right back in."
