<title>Two slashed during Coldplay's concert at Saddledome in Calgary (18th April 2012)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8048</link>
<description>Two males have been taken to hospital, one in serious condition, after both were slashed in the neck during the Coldplay concert at Calgary's Saddledome in Canada last night. The two men had their throats cut as what was supposed to be a good time at the Coldplay concert turned violent.

The incident happened inside the Saddledome at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, as the concert was winding down. One of the patients was taken by paramedics to Foothills Medical Centre with serious injuries, while the other was taken to Rockyview General Hospital with 'less serious' injuries, police said. &quot; We're not sure if it was a fight or an assault or what happened. There have been a number of people detained at the scene and our members are interviewing them to ascertain what happened,&quot; said duty inspector Craig Skelton.

<title>coldplay record sales UK contribution</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8046</link>
<description>Adele and Coldplay helped boost homegrown album sales in 2011, various sources are reporting this week in the UK. The acts'

respective efforts, along with other major releases from Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Amy Winehouse and Olly Murs, accounted for

52.7% of sales in the UK last year. Each of the above artists sold over 500,000 copies of their records in Britain, with

Coldplay selling near to a million copies of Mylo Xyloto and Adele selling close to four million copies of 21.

The new figures mean that UK artists have claimed the highest share of British album sales in 15 years. US artists - along

with releases from Lady GaGa, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Kanye West - accounted for a third of all UK sales, with Canadian releases

from Michael Buble and Justin Bieber claiming 4.5%. Meanwhile, Rihanna single handedly puts Barbados in fourth place after

claiming 2.3% of all sales with her Loud and Talk That Talk albums.

George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Martin Scorsese are among the stars lined up to appear on Jimmy Kimmel's post-Oscars show on

Sunday, February 26.

The seventh annual Jimmy Kimmel Live: After The Academy Awards special will also welcome Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren,

Charlize Theron, Don Cheadle and Oscars host Billy Crystal.

Coldplay will draw the show to a close with a block party performance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live outdoor stage. The show will

broadcast from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood after the Academy Awards and late local news. Scorsese's Hugo is this

year's leading Oscars nominee with recognition in 11 categories including 'Best Picture' and 'Best Director' for Scorsese.

The Artist, Clooney's The Descendants, Moneyball and War Horse are also multiple nominees, while Streep has been nominated

in the 'Best Actress' category for her role in The Iron Lady. The Oscars air live from the Kodak Theatre on Sunday,

<title>New York review 2: Coldplay and Jay-Z ring in 2013 with epic Brooklyn show at Barclays Center (31 December)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8042</link>
<description>As Chris Martin sang &quot;Auld Lang Syne&quot;, Jay-Z went up the stage at close to midnight to ring in the New Year during their double-billed show, writes the Ace Showbiz in a featured review of Coldplay's second show at the Barclays Center in New York (31 December). After exchanging hugs with Chris, Jay took over the stage from Coldplay, who had a riot of a performance with lots of color and movement, in contrast to the rapper who was alone on stage and was mostly standing throughout his performance as he spit his rhymes.

Coldplay kicked off the concert at 10pm and played a 15-song set, to the delight of a packed Barclays Center. The venue lit up as fans were each given bracelets that had multi-colored lights that blinked in step. The crowd sang along with the band as they dished out their hits &quot; The Scientist&quot; and &quot;Paradise&quot;, as confetti canons and world map beach balls were rolled out. Rihanna appeared in the screens put up around the arena as the band performed &quot;Princess of China&quot;.

<title>New York review: Coldplay sizzles at Brooklyn's Barclays Center (30 December)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8041</link>
<description>If You’re the kind of person that thinks of rock ‘n’ roll as the language of society’s outsiders, kicking back against the world in the loudest and most obnoxious way possible, then you should never, ever go and see Coldplay, writes the NY Post in a featured review of Coldplay's first show at the Barclays Center in New York (30 December 2012). For some time, the British band has been a well-oiled entertainment machine, and last night at Barclays Center their vast array of bells and whistles took up almost as much focus as any of their songs. There probably isn’t a crowd in the world that Chris Martin can’t coax into excitement and even though the band is due to play a New Year’s Eve show at Barclays with Jay-Z tonight, the front man was determined to get the party started early. “No one ever spares a thought for poor old December 30th,” he chirped. “Tomorrow’s just a ‘warm down’ for this show!”

<title>Uncasville review 2: Coldplay Coldplay thrills Mohegan Sun crowd with music, visual effects (29 December)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8040</link>
<description>Is Chris Martin the hardest-working Brit in show business? There the singer was, Saturday night at Mohegan Sun, breaking a sweat literally after the first song of Coldplay's concert, writes The Day in another featured review of Coldplay's show at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT (29 December 2012). He didn't just play guitar. He hopped and sprang while he did, doubling over or throwing his head back. When he took to the piano for songs like &quot;Paradise,&quot; he didn't merely tap the keys. He thumped them, and he bounced on the stool. He bounded down the stage runway with his so-unhip-they're-hip dance moves and then dropped to his knees and bent backwards like a latter-day Springsteen.

He made sure to play to every part of the arena — scampering up to the top tier to perform a couple of songs, taking a few tours around the ramp behind the stage to give audience members back there their due...

<title>Uncasville review: Coldplay celebrate humble '29th December' at the Mohegan Sun Arena</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8039</link>
<description>Chris Martin wanted to make December 29th a date to remember; he used his bully pulpit at the sold out Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday night to lobby for &quot;humble December 29&quot; to be revered in the way we think of more prominent annual dates like December 25, December 31, and July 4, writes Mass Live in a featured review of Coldplay's show at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT (29 December 2012). Catch up on the latest tweets, pictures, videos from this show at the Coldplay Live forum here onwards now.  Thanks to everyone who has contributed with tweets, photos, reviews, videos and comments! &quot;We want to make this the most memorable night of your life,&quot; he declared at the outset of a 90 minute performance. &quot;So every year when December 29 rolls around, you will celebrate.&quot;

Whether or not the 10,000 or so fans gathered in the Connecticut woods will be holding an annual celebration remains to be seen, but Coldplay made a solid effort at turning an ordinary arena concert into something memorable. Yes there were a lot of props and lasers and suspended video boards that some might consider gimmicky. But sometimes gimmicky equates to memorable...

<title>Ology's LP6 preview: What to expect on Coldplay's sixth album</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8037</link>
<description>Despite rumours to the contrary, Coldplay will not, in fact, be taking a three-year break now that they've almost finished their extensive world tour behind last year's Mylo Xyloto, writes Ology in their blog already previewing Coldplay's sixth studio album. Read on for the rest of the article...

As clarified by NME, Chris Martin recently told an Australian audience that they'd be away for three years. (Translation: it'll be another three years before Coldplay writes, records, releases a new album and then makes it back down under on their next tour. Isn't all that confusing to me, but whatever, shrug.)

Instead, the band will head back into the studio to begin work on their sixth and definitely easier to pronounce album. In the meantime, the inevitable guessing game begins: where can Coldplay take their ever-changing sound next? Even deeper into the dense modern pop textures of Mylo Xyloto, or back to the lush post-Britpop acoustics of their early work? Let's weigh a few possibilities…

<title>Naked Brisbane man finds Paradise at recent Coldplay concert, fined $800</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8036</link>
<description>We all know that Coldplay can have a pretty strong affect on their followers, and an Australian fan did his best to prove this point at the band’s recent visit down under for their Mylo Xyloto tour, writes Tone Deaf, Australian music magazine.

You will remember that Coldplay played a string of massive stadium shows last month, with the Tone Deaf reviewer labelling the Sydney leg a 'successful night of undying spirit and celebration [that] proved they’re worthy of the title of the biggest band in the world.'

One 34-year-old Brisbane fanatic seemed to agree, experiencing an unfortunately-timed rush of blood to the head that led to him stripping naked and assaulting a security guard at the show at Suncorp Stadium, as Stuff.co.nz reports. His excuse? &quot;Coldplay made me do it.&quot; Well, the reviewer did label the Sydney show 'euphoric and boundless.'

<title>Coldplay's Oracle on 12.12.12 song choices, Essential 'greatest hits', end of the world, Chris's dog and more... </title>

Q. I was watching the 12.12.12 concert last night and of course, Chris was phenomenal. I was wondering... when performing those types of events, what goes in to choosing the songs performed? Is it based on time allowed or relevancy to the event? Odd question I know, but I'm a curious sort. Thanks!! Tracy
The Oracle replies:
Both of those things and other factors are taken into account when performing at such an event. The set list is always an important consideration regardless of the show. The suitability of the song, the audience - it's not always going to be a crowd of Coldplay fans - and the practicality of performing it solo / unplugged / with a guest.

Q. Hello Oracle! I want to know something. Is Coldplay Essential an official album?
The Oracle replies:
No; all the official recordings are on this website in the Recordings section. The band have never released any kind of Greatest Hits.

<title>Coldplay announced as 'most popular act' of the last decade on Last.fm</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8034</link>
<description>Last.fm is celebrating a decade of scrobbling with a data haul encompassing the last decade of music – and Coldplay have come out winners, it has been revealed by MusicWeek in the past few days.

Coldplay have been crowned as the most popular act on the platform over the last 10 years while Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit was the most popular track. British music dominated both artists and tracks of the last decade, with half of the Top 10 Best Artists of the Decade hailing from the UK.

Along with Coldplay, three other British acts – The Beatles, Radiohead and Muse - dominate the top spots on the list and seven of the Top 10 tracks are performed by British artists including Oasis, Kings of Leon and Muse. Despite the strong British presence on the list, Lady Gaga is the only solo artist to appear in the Top 10 Artists and Top 10 Songs list from the past decade.

Q. Hello Oracle, Do you know when this photo was taken and the context behind it? Thanks :)
The Oracle replies:
Back in 2006 the band were at The Brits and during one acceptance speech (they won 2 awards that night), Chris mentioned they'd be away for a while. The following morning a certain British tabloid ran the front page headline &quot;COLDPLAY QUIT&quot;. Miller (a.k.a Roadie #42) took the photo of the band to show their surprise at hearing the news - which was of course false. We posted the photo on this website and that's pretty much it. It's worth bearing in mind that if / when Chris mentions taking time off, it doesn't mean a split or a long hiatus.

<title>Review: Chris Martin and Michael Stipe join forces at the 12-12-12 Sandy Benefit concert (12 December)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8032</link>
<description>Chris Martin joined forces with R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe for a special performance of ‘Losing My Religion’ during the 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief at Madison Square Garden last night, writes Diffuser in a review of the benefit event. You can discuss all the performances at the Coldplay Live forum now (and also watch Chris Martin via YouTube if you missed it!) [thanks to everyone who contributed throughout!]

According to NBC anchor Brian Williams, who appeared onscreen soon after to solicit donations, the team-up was a surprise even to those involved with the planning, and Chris himself seemed humbled to share the stage with one of his heroes. &quot;This is really happening,&quot; Chris said, strumming the opening chords to R.E.M.’s biggest hit. Stipe handled most of the lead vocals, but the pair harmonized in spots, and when it was over, Chris poked fun at his duet partner’s recent lack of musical output, saying: &quot;He came out of retirement for that song, and now he’s gone right back in.&quot;

<title>Live 2012: Coldplayers' reviews of the cinema screenings worldwide (part 3)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8031</link>
<description>Coldplay's Live 2012 concert film, which has now been released worldwide, documents the Mylo Xyloto world tour, which has been seen by more than three million people since it began in June 2011. The disc includes footage from Coldplay's shows at Paris's Stade de France, Montreal's Bell Centre and the band's Pyramid Stage headline performance at Glastonbury 2011.

Last month, Coldplayers around the world watched the Live 2012 cinema screening ahead of the physical release, and this article focuses on the many reviews coming in from fans who went to see the new Live 2012 concert film in theatres around the world. You can read lots more at the Coldplay Live 2012 movie premiere thread in the Coldplay forum now.

We had so many reviews, we decided to spread them about a bit over several articles - read on for our second selection of reviews and images from around the globe...

That was really really good. The filming was fantastic, as was the recording. Loved the effects too, especially the slow-mos of Chris jumping during IMP. Only criticism is that the film didn't build up the momentum of the actual concert because it kept stopping for interviews (which got a bit silly by the end). Don't get me wrong, they certainly added something, but there were too many of them and some were a bit long. Thought the length was perfect, and on reflection, it was probably wise to leave out a few songs with the interviews included. One more thing... stay till after the credits have finished!!!! [thanks AlfredB]

<title>Coldplay's Oracle on Jonny's 'Sunny' guitar, 12-12-12 concert, Cemeteries Of London, Square One, Politik and more...</title>

<description>More questions answered by The Oracle... (circa. 3100 questions now answered - submit yours now!)

December 6, 2012 - submitted by Jake, Australia
Q. HEY!!! Coldplay's first Sydney show was spectacular and absolutely outstanding! Quick question: I noticed that for songs like Paradise, Charlie Brown, In My Place, Major Minus - that Jonny wasn't using his 2 regular 'MX graffiti' guitars, instead he was using a sunburst tele. Do you know why? Thanks! The whole Coldplay team are amazing!
The Oracle replies:
Thanks to Matt McGinn (Jonny's guitar tech) for this in depth response: &quot;Well, that one (which is called 'Sunny' - they've all got names) is Jonny's total favourite. He's had it about ten years and has played it on most of the albums and tours since Rush Of Blood - it's actually the one he's holding if you look at the band photo from that album cover. There's just something about the two of them that seems to click. It sounds amazing, for a start. And he's really happy when he's playing it, as you might have noticed. I can't remember where he picked it up - maybe Chicago? - but, if you're interested, it's a '72 Thinline from about 1974. It's half hollow - so, semi-semi acoustic, I guess - and has a lot of really nice gouges in it from being thoroughly thwacked. All still original, as far as I know. I reckon it must've cost him about 2000 US dollars but God knows what it'd be worth now...

You can get a pretty good Fender copy/reissue these days for a lot less, off the peg, that might turn out lovely after a few years of playing it. That's the thing, any old guitar can be amazing if you love it enough.  It - or should I say 'she', since, like ships, all guitars are girls - was sidelined for awhile and only used on 'Scientist' but then we got so soaked, boiled and frozen on the last European stadium run that all the other Tele's got in a total mess; impossible to tune, playing like old dogs etc. I decided to hand him Sunny out of desperation one night right before Fix You (I forget what town) and when he did the opening riff it was like a light coming on. He just looked round at me and we knew she had to come back for good. Glad you liked the Sydney gig - so did I!&quot;

<title>Coldplay round-up: MX album art raises $800,000 (£500,000), Chris&#032;&#064;&#032;12-12-12 concert (streamed live), Spotify charts</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8028</link>
<description>Coldplay have raised more than $800,000 (£500,000) for charity by selling off their graffiti-covered wall which featured on the sleeve of the Mylo Xyloto album. Phil Harvey confirmed the sale on Twitter this week, saying: &quot;Take a bow Coldplay fans. An incredible £610,000 raised so far from the Mylo art sale.&quot;

Coldplay displayed the large piece, a collaboration with street artist Paris, at Proud Galleries in London ahead of an auction in aid of Kids Company, a charity which helps at-risk children in the capital. The huge artwork sold to an anonymous bidder from the Far East for $800,000 on Monday, while other art works by the band and behind-the-scenes photographs from their life on the road raised another $176,00 (£110,000), taking the total to $967,000 (£610,000).

Meanwhile, Chris Martin has become one of the latest names added to the line-up for the upcoming Hurricane Sandy relief concert in New York, the official site has confirmed this week. You can discuss the latest on this show in the Coldplay Live forum now [thanks Tash]

Rihanna travelled to Paris to perform Princess of China with the band because that is where the majority of concert footage for the Live 2012 DVD was being recorded. They performed it twice there and then again at the Paralympics Closing Ceremony a week later.

Q. Dear Oracle, I've always wondered this: On the album X&amp;Y, the lyric for Fix You reads &quot; When you're too in love to let it go,&quot; yet every time I've heard Chris sing it live (I've seen them 5 times in concert) he says &quot;...to let it show&quot; instead. Is there a reason he does this? Does he actually prefer the word show to go? I know this is nit-picky, but I've always been curious. Thank you! I hope you answer this!
The Oracle replies:
It's not a word preference but it is a lyric preference - he wouldn't do it otherwise. Once something is recorded you can't go back and change it but playing live gives the opportunity to make changes musically &amp; lyrically.

<title>Chris Martin: &quot;3-year haitus is rubbish; I'm fired up about the band's future&quot;</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8026</link>
<description>As we hinted several days ago, Chris Martin has rubbished reports that Coldplay were going on a 3-year haitus and that he was merely referring to the length of time it would take the band to return to Australia on a world tour. This is according to an article in today's Daily Star who were at the launch of the MX artwork exhibition in London yesterday in aid of children's charity Kids Company. Read on for the full article, and you can discuss this latest news at the Coldplay forum now [thanks Tash]

The Daily Star continue: Coldplay fans have got an early Christmas present – the band is secretly working on a new album. Laughing off reports that he and the lads are taking a three-year break, Chris Martin told me in an exclusive interview that they had begun working on the follow-up to last year’s mega-selling Mylo Xyloto. Chris, 35, told me: &quot;I’ve been writing songs and I’m so fired up about the band’s future. I’m fortunate to do what I do and no way do I want to stop. This three-year break idea only came about because I said at a gig in Australia that we might not be back there for three years. That’s probably true, but that’s just how a world tour works. No chance are we taking a three-year break.&quot;

<title>Live 2012 review 4: Coldplay's masterclass in entertaining millions of people with arena rock</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8025</link>
<description>Coldplay's new Live 2012 release is far from a way to cash in on the platinum success of Mylo Xyloto, despite a release date suspiciously close to Christmas, writes Contact Music, in another promising of Coldplay's forthcoming concert film release, Live 2012, released earlier this month. Read on for the rest of the review...

While the more cynical members of the record buying public may not view Coldplay as being 'cool', even they couldn't deny that Live 2012 is somewhat of a triumph.

The overall package is a masterclass in how to entertain millions of people with arena rock at its best. Even the band themselves admit that this is the first time they've toured without worrying about what people think. Both the Blu Ray and accompanying CD demonstrate that, thereby creating a companion piece to Mylo Xyloto that adds context to that record rather than just re-treading the hits in a live setting...

<title>Live 2012: Coldplayers' reviews of the cinema screenings worldwide (part 2)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8024</link>
<description>Coldplay's Live 2012 concert film has now been released worldwide. It documents the Mylo Xyloto world tour, which has been seen by more than three million people since it began in June 2011. The disc includes footage from Coldplay's shows at Paris's Stade de France, Montreal's Bell Centre and the band's Pyramid Stage headline performance at Glastonbury 2011.

Last week, Coldplayers around the world watched the Live 2012 cinema screening ahead of the physical release, and this article focuses on the many reviews coming in from fans who went to see the new Live 2012 concert film in theatres around the world. You can read lots more at the Coldplay Live 2012 movie premiere thread in the Coldplay forum now.

We had so many reviews, we decided to spread them about a bit over several articles - read on for our second selection of reviews and images from around the globe...

Venue: Stratford London. Absolutely fantastic. Second best to seeing it live, which I did in London. But I didn't see myself which was the only bad thing. I wore my mx jacket and sang and clapped. I found it fascinating when the interviews came on and thought it broke the concerts up perfectly - not ruin it as people are mentioning. Now like ever coldplayer I look forward to watching it all again in solid surround sound and blue ray as loud as humanly possible. And see and possible extras such as cadburys buttons-the return of!!!! That's why Chris is the ultimate show man. So much energy and effort. Johnny is immaculate. Will is crazy and guy is smooth. Can't wait for the next album boys. 10/10. Hope everyone enjoyed the film. [thanks ah2k10]

<title>Three year haitus? It's not Coldplay's style...</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8023</link>
<description>Chris Martin took the unusual step of telling the world from the Brisbane stage that Coldplay would take three years off from touring - if the media circus is to be believed over the last 24 hours. We think differently, however - it'll be three years before they next return to Australia for the next album era - which is about the right timescale considering it was 2009 when Coldplay last took their Viva La Vida tour down under (who could forget that Sydney Sound Relief dash?)

Its so much of a circus over this story that ContactMusic have been playing Chinese whispers as well. They reported, 'The British rockers played a concert in Brisbane on Wednesday after which frontman Chris Martin suggested the band has grown tired of touring (!). Coldplay has been on tour since October 2011 promoting their latest record, Mylo Xyloto. &quot; This is the last big show for three years or so,&quot; he told reporters after the show (!), while adding, &quot;I don't want to stop.&quot;'

Did anyone else recall Chris Martin taking a break in between songs to speak to reporters or go rushing over to them as soon as Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall finished? No we didn't think that happened either. In fact most of the articles still think the Latin America tour is still going ahead, when in reality it has been postponed, including the following sources - EntertainmentWise, The Sun and the Belfast Telegraph.

It doesn't mean that Coldplay is going on hiatus. It's more likely that they'll start work on their next album - one with a more easily pronounceable title, as Chris explained earlier in the week. And if you want to know what Chris Martin is really thinking, just ask the Coldplayers...

<title>Brisbane review 2: Coldplay lights up Suncorp in 'last big show' in Australia for a few years (21 November)</title>
<link>http://www.coldplaying.com/site/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=8022</link>
<description>Coldplay quite literally lit-up Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium Wednesday night during a tour-wrapping show in which Chris Martin dropped big hints that his band won't be back for some time, writes Billboard in another featured review of Coldplay's show at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia (21st November). Catch up on the latest tweets, pictures, videos from this show at the Coldplay Live forum here onwards now. Thanks to everyone who has contributed with tweets, photos, reviews, videos and comments! Read on for the rest of the Billboard review article below...

This was a proper open-air event, complete with fireworks, giant inflatable balls, glowing hearts and butterflies, lasers and confetti, all framed within a sea of glowing light. And the British four piece -- Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion -- pulled off a joyful, exuberant set.

It's almost unimaginable the leap this band has made from the melancholy of their first album, 2000's &quot;Parachutes&quot;, to the stadium-fillers they are today. They're surely the mainstream rock group of their generation, a group who can shut down parts of a city on the other side of the world like they did here, and count small children and grandparents among the fans...
