Coldplay's Label Dismisses 2-1 Offer Claims

Exclusive: Bosses at Coldplays record label Capitol are baffled by frontman Chris Martin's claim the band is running a two-for-one promotion on its new album.
Chris Martin [pictured] told British newspaper the Daily Mirror the band wanted to encourage fans to pay for LP Viva La Vida or Death and all his Friends, by offering a deal to those who download it online. He claimed that for every track that a fan downloads, they will get to choose another one free.
Martin told the newspaper, "Buy one get one free, it comes from working in Kwik Save (British budget supermarket), I think. As I said before nobody buys albums any more, certainly no body buys full albums and we've made an album that you have to have from start to finish."
But Capitol executives know nothing of the promotion. A high ranking boss tells WENN, "I checked with their (Coldplay's) management. This appears to be incorrect."

Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" world tour -- which will land in North America, Europe and Japan -- is set to begin at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center on June 29 and extend well into next year, Billboard.com can reveal.
Save for the Pemberton Festival in Vancouver on July 27, Coldplay will play arenas in North America, the U.K. and Europe on the tour’s first leg. Some North American dates will go on sale May 16-17, but the majority go up June 14, the weekend before "Viva La Vida" is released. Ticket info will be available at www.coldplay.com.
As previously reported, Coldplay will play free concerts in London (June 16 at the Brixton Academy) and New York (June 23 at Madison Square Garden). Information on how to win tickets to these shows will be available at the band's website beginning today (May 9). The contest runs through June 1 and winners will receive notification on June 5. Roughly 50 shows are planned for North America, followed by Europe and the U.K. Coldplay will also headline the Summer Sonic festival Aug. 9-10 in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. About 90 dates total are expected for this year. More shows are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. "Last time we ended up doing 150 shows; we’ll probably end up roughly the same," Coldplay manager Dave Holmes tells Billboard.com.

This is an exerpt from an article about Madonna's world tour:
Arthur Fogel, a one-time Torontonian now based in L.A. as Live Nation's CEO of global touring and chairman of global music, says this year's Madge tour will do extremely well, what with no other major tours in the works from such acts as U2 and the Rolling Stones, although he points out the Coldplay tour "will be huge in a different way."

NME Mag & Coldplay 7" Vinyl Out Now! New Pictures/Article

This week's edition of NME is now available, and with it Coldplay's vinyl 7" single. Here's a excerpt from the magazine article:
Chris Martin said the sales figures for their first three albums can't be topped, so the group decided that they didn't need to make "big songs" on Viva La Vida.
"We thought, 'We can't possibly get any bigger, let's just get better," Martin told NME. "We're actually a bit scared because we've taken the safety off this time. It's not like we've got any songs on the record where we think, 'Oh, it's OK because we know the big songs are on there', we had some of those, but we took them off. We decided it was time to push what the band could do forward."
