The beauty of Glastonbury is that every year it throws up surprises. Whether it’s Robbie Williams rocking up backstage with a car-boot full of champagne in 1995 or Chas & Dave drawing a batshit-mental, 18,000-strong crowd in 2005, it’s the random element that makes Glastonbury special. Here are some of the rumours we’ve been hearing about this year’s event.

    1. Radiohead will play
Emily Eavis has said that this year “wasn’t right” for a Radiohead headline appearance, but Saturday 28 June remains tantalisingly free in the band’s tour schedule – and they’ll definitely be in the country, having played Glasgow the night before. However, our money’s not on a full-band show but rather an impromptu acoustic performance somewhere low-key like the Emily Eavis-curated Park Stage. After all, Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have already demonstrated a penchant for al fresco gigging after dark.
    Odds: 3/1

    2. Chris Martin will join headliner Jay-Z onstage
They performed together at the Royal Albert Hall in September 2006 – and Coldplay’s new album will almost certainly be out by June. What price a duet on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night? Granted, it’s more likely to be Martin scatting awkwardly over 99 Problems than the Jigga crooning, say, The Scientist, but even so, it could work. And just imagine Gwyneth and Beyonce bogling by the side of the stage.
    Odds: 3/1

    3. Amy Winehouse will play
Winehouse’s mid-afternoon performance on the Pyramid last year was a key staging post in her becoming middle England’s tragic soul diva of choice. It also marked a personal high point, coming just a month after her marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil, but before her descent into full-blown drug addiction. What better place than Glastonbury, then, to debut songs from the follow-up to Back To Black, and put her turbulent year behind her?
    Odds: 4/1

    4. Invasion of the New Winehouses
Kate Nash has already been confirmed, but she’s not the only young diva who’ll be muddying her hemline at Worthy Farm this year, if rumours are to believed. The latest names in the frame: Duffy and Adele.
    Odds: 2/1

    5. Damon Albarn will appear alongside Massive Attack
Not on the Other Stage, of course, which Massive Attack are headlining – that’d be far too predictable. No, any potential collaboration is more likely to hook into Africa Express, the loose cross-cultural experiment that went down so well last year on the Park Stage. It’d make sense, since Albarn apparently guests on Massive Attack’s upcoming album. There’s history there too: in 2002 Albarn and Robert Del Naja teamed up to fund adverts in support of the Stop The War Coalition.
    Odds: 4/1

Watch this space - we'll be adding more rumours as when we hear them.
