Default How do I learn what the Viva tour was like?

I've always been a fan of coldplay, but I never followed them like I do now. I never watched a Viva era concert and I just want to know what it was like, how it felt and all.

The MX tour is odd, too shiny and bright and, while enjoyable, doesn't have that feeling the Viva album does...

You can watch Coldplay @ MTV World Stage or you can build a time machine.

That World Stage show doesn't do it justice. I count going to see the Viva tour one of the best days of my life (after my wedding day, of course!)

I find it absolutely unbelievable for a band as big as Coldplay and in this day and age (youtube, hundreds of tv channels etc) that there has never been a full version of a gig from the Viva tour out there.

Went to see the Viva La Vida Tour in December 2008 (I haven't been to an MX concert and am unlikely to go to one because they only came to Scotland once back in December) and it was far less gimmicky and colourful and shiny than the MX tour. Perhaps it even scaled back a bit with regards to the Twisted Logic tour. There was hardly any lasers or anything and no multi colour colour schemes all over the place. There was definitely a "retro" feel about it what with the mock army like suits and old televisions on stage. But the music was fantastic. It's quite something for a band to perform all but on or two songs from the album in one show. To me it showed how good they felt the Viva La Vida songs were and they were right because in live form, as well as on record, it was fantastic. I can't really compare it with the MX Tour (although it looks like that tour has escalated Coldplay into the "U2 league") but as a body of songs I was delighted and honoured to view Coldplay from that era. Viva La Vida for me, is 10 times the album Mylo Xyloto is and based on that alone I feel that if given to view one of the shows from Viva La Vida tour or MX Tour then I'd take the Viva Tour all the time even though I think Coldplay have become even better as a live act in the MX era.

I don't think she knows how to build a time machine so I guess it's the next best option

There's also a multicam video of a show in Melbourne, I believe. The quality is pretty good.
But, yeah, the time machine would probably be more useful

The quality of the Melbourne show is the best non pro shot concert footage I've ever seen. Bar none.

Honestly, though, I don't think the Viva tour was really all that different from what they're doing with their shows now, or even what they did before. I know that seems to be a minority viewpoint on this thread, but I've been going to the band's gigs since 2002, and they tend to reuse the same live gimmicks once they've developed them (and I'm not saying that in a bad way). Confetti, lasers, balloons, playing in the crowd, it was all there. I'm not sure what people mean when they say there was "less" of that before TBH. (though to be fair, so far, I've only seen the festival version of the current show.)

I think I've seen a multi-cam of the first show of the Latin American leg of the tour (Argentina I think it was) which was pretty decent. It was uploaded in parts, but I'm pretty sure the whole concert is there. The quality is OK, and it has I think the only filmed performance of Don Quixote (Spanish Rain)

Here is the first part:

I haven't gone to a MX show, so my opinion is only based on video/pictures.
Even if they did have all the ballons/lasers/confetti/c-stage it does seem different . Right now everything seems to be over the top, with lots of bright colours, with an in-your-face kind of lighting and effects.

But it's also a matter of taste, I prefer all the paintings and images they projected on the screen behind them to all the graffiti stuff they have going on right now

I agree. And on a shallow note, the Viva outfits were hot.

An MX concert seems rushed, as soon as one song is over, the next one starts. On the Viva tour, the songs gently flowed into each other. That's what I miss from the Viva tour. I do love the bright colors of an MX concert, but I like Viva because it featured more songs and as I mentioned before the slow transitions into songs I liked.
