Lightbulb Discuss: Charlie Brown single

We recently learned that Princess of China will be officially released as a single on April 15. What's interesting is that Charlie Brown, although heavily marketed as the third single, numerous Promotional singles over the months, and even officially claimed to have been released on February 3 (even though no releases, even promotional, had occurred that day), there has been no official release, nor official news of a Charlie Brown single.

Charlie Brown is all over the place right now. Coeurli even used those exact words in one of these threads. In fact, we all must be thinking the same thing. What is going on with Charlie and why is it's forthcoming release as a single so disorganized?

I've decided we must discuss this and work out something. Share the facts and put forward opinions for everyone to see in this time of crisis. Is Charlie being pushed back to the holidays, similar to what happened to Strawberry Swing? Will it be a double header release with Princess? Will it ever release at all? In how many countries has it charted? Where is Charlie a Promo? Is Princess falling in the charts? Let's discuss.

PS That is a really ugly coverart.

Everyone I know that has got coldplay's new album or has heard Charlie Brown has said it is outstanding. Even Coldplay know it's the best new song they have and they love to play it live! I personally think they might wait for the summer and try again with the promotion and re-release. In fact we all know POC has a good chance od being No 1 ( Because of you know who in the song ) so if Charlie Brown is promoted more after the of release POC it will get a large boost. It's a shame Coldplay's best songs don't do as well as others.

Agree. February wasn't a good idea for Charlie. ETIAW became so popular, because it was relase nearly holidays (as I remember) and everybody wait for first single. Firstly that was a good strategy for promotion CB with for example secret photos. We could see video on TV for a while, but now everybody focused on collaboration with a celebrity. It's a bit sad, and I think that was a little mistake, because CB has a huge unused potential.

About charts in Poland the top position of Charlie was 14., and it was on the list only for 8 weeks. To compare Paradise was on the list for 26 weeks, and practically didn't fall from top ten.

Actually I said it wasn't really. Well, that's what I meant
CB isn't doing that well, regarding its potential. It should be a major hit. It isn't. That's what I meant. I don't know what the hell they're doing, but I hope PoC will boost CB sales.

CB is the single being promoted right now and it didn't go well, deal with it. And I agrre, PoC cover is not that pretty, it just doesn't fit along with the other single covers that had really close pictures of the wall.

I must say that I don't like the cover art for PoC. Is that the real deal? It's look very fan made.

If I recall correctly Clocks wasn't that successful at the time of it's release, at least not in Australia anyway. But as we all should know by now, that meant nothing in the long run.

^ That's how I feel about Charlie Brown, Clocks peaked just a few top 10, It was popular, not a real hit.

What I don't get is why they don't just start selling it as a single under its own artwork.
Everyone's heard it by now, as it may as well be a single with the amount of airplay it's getting, so they either do that, or people just download it as a single track off Mylo Xyloto on iTunes. Considering it's already got a video that's been out for a while, the whole formality of declaring it a single release seems a bit ludicrous to me :S

Yeah, I pretty much agree that CB is not going to get any sort of proper release now.

It's too late.

On to the next one.

PoC. Don't like the song, but I strangely have high hopes for the video.

I agree with the above posters on how they compared Clocks to CB. Same thing could be said about The Scientist. Was never a chart-topper, but in the long-run didn't really matter. I view CB in that same light.

The best hopes I have for Charlie Brown is that they will start promoting it more once the summer rolls around and that it will be more of a long-term hit. It really disappoints me how little justice they did it, in the way of promotion and a video.. Maybe the strategy they're going to use is for PoC to be more of an attention-getter, then when CB gets more promotion more people will notcie it because non-fans will remember PoC?

I think Charlie Brown is gonna end up following the "Clocks" path, if I may. Princess of China, let's face it, is going to be huge. ("You stole my star. lalalalalalala" I mean, come on! That's pop gold!)

Charlie Brown, although it's arguably one of the best songs they've written (one of my personal favorites), probably won't be as popular as Princess...but in the long term, it'll be a fan favorite, and it'll be one of the songs that define the band as a whole. A summer release would be smart, as it could take on the same feel as ETIAW when it was released last year--only better!

Clocks was unbelievably popular, wasn't it? It got a grammy for best song and was on the radio all the time.

I was under the impression that Clocks was HUGE when if first came out. Then again, I was late to the Coldplay party so I might be wrong.

But if it does follow the path of Clocks - where CB isn't popular now but later - then I don't mind. Clocks did get the Grammys.
