I like the acoustic version, but as to why choose the "overproduced" version, I actually like that version better, love the power of that version and that version goes better with rihanna's voice, the tempo of the song and with the lyrics imo and I think it fits better in the story on the album, especially because it's between two very quiet songs.
So about the discussion of them choosing money over music, it IS a possibility that they actually thought the "overproduced" version is better or at least fits better on the album in this way.
'Lips like sugar'
'Hot in Here'
Chris Martin hosting on Zane Lowe's INMWT with the 'helping with your homework' song, 'I added it a bit'
'CREDO ELVEM ETIAM VIVERE'
Christmas Lights in this
It makes me remember the show at Grammy Awards. But this is better. Love it.

I can't believe this was a year ago
Miller records everything so why they don't give us the live version without Rihanna?
EDIT: The acoustic version is satisfying me though.
The live version from Rock im Park is still the best!!!!!!!!!
Dear God . . . this doesn't even sound like the same song! Why the heck did the guys use that overproduced scrap of dirt over this version? The instrumentation even partially makes up for the bad lyrics!
I just . . . wat
Although I wish they had re-recorded the vocals (with or without Rihanna . . . preferably without), because the effects don't sound quite right with an acoustic soundscape.

Could not agree with you more.
