Why Does The Band Call Themselves 'Coldplay' ?

This is what i wondered all since i first heard of them.

It was the name of a poetry book Chris' university friend Tim had. Tim's band was initially using it and then when they dropped it, Chris asked if he could have it

Thnx for this info,but i still wonder what it exactly means,or did they just find it to be a cool name?

The boys once said it doesn't mean anything, and I guess they just liked the name

I've read somewhere that it meant harsh play or something similar

In radio speak a "cold play" is when a DJ plays a new record for the first time. His listening audience is hearing it "cold".
