Coldplay are arguably the world's biggest rock band, so according to my indie rock guidebook, I should treat them with smugness and derision.

Well that explains it.

Now the other side of the coin here is that as pretentious as Pitchfork are, they have a pretty big audience and are pretty influential, especially when with the mainstream indie crowd.

So what will they score the album? I feel like they could put out a masterpiece and it will still get a shit rating. You can vote and also write down your exact prediction. Winner gets theoretical cake.

If you just come into this thread and diss pitchfork I will diss you right back.

I don't think Pitchfork are influential.

Only to those who don't have half a brain and only listen to music by their word but at the same time have a smug sense of satisfaction about themselves.

Pitchfork are most certainly influential.

When Arcade Fire put out Funeral back in 2004, pitchfork gave it a 9.7. Merge got so many orders for the album in that week of the review that they needed to take it out of print for a little while and restock heavily.

Come on! It wasn't just Pitchfork who outed them. That is a genuinely great album. It's not because Pitchfork said so.

I think pitchfork is a great music source. I like it a lot more than Rolling Stone. Do I think all of their reviews make sense? No... but then again no matter what music website there is there will always be ratings you don't agree with or bands they typically don't like.

Yup. And they also got the whole Odd Future ball rolling too.

It also really helped Broken Social Scene.

""That's when the phone calls started coming in," Drew says. "The next tour we went on, we suddenly found ourselves selling out venues. Everyone was coming up to us, saying, 'We heard about you from Pitchfork.' It basically opened the door for us. It gave us an audience.""

They were the only ones that ripped on The Resistance when it came out.

They were also quite generous with Kanye last year, a huge beacon for his album.

They were willing to give "Helplessness Blues" by Fleet Foxes a 2 (which is BULL, by the way). I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Coldplay got an equally low score.

What? Helplessness Blues got an 8.8, and THAT is bull.

But, i predict them to find a flaw, and to poke at it, and wear away at it. By that i want them to score them a 9.0, but sadly, if they find a flaw, they will rate it a 3.5 or 5.0. if they find no flaws, we might be looking at a high score rating.

Come on they gave AROBTTH 5.1? It deserves more than that.

I still think that James Blake is the only thing they've reviewed this year that deserves a 9 or over. Bon Iver should have been in the range of 8.5 and Fleet Foxes at 6.5...

Wow. Well if they gave ARoBttH a 5.1 then I doubt they'll like MX. It sounds decent so far, but it doesn't compare.

(of course, that could always change )

The one thing I don't get is how on earth they could give VLV a higher rating than both Parachutes and AROBTTH
