About last update - that's something, at last. Maybe LP5 wouldn't suck after all.
To close Eno discussion - I don't like direction he gave - more cool sound, but it's heartless, emotionless, it's too polished, too cold. It doesn't stand repeat listening. All this stuff unnatural to Coldplay. And the same team worked on LP5. That's why I don't have high expectations. |

Quote: Exactly. You can read, can't you? When I listen VLV I feel nothing. I don't like historical theme, I don't like ridiculous costumes. They should stick with something modern and progressive, because VLV looks like just a nice gesture, but its unnatural to Coldplay. |

Quote: I think you are naive if you think EVERYONE on this forum is going to love VLV. I personally think it is their weakest album. And I agree with Odvan, are you seriously telling us that there as much emotion in, say, Strawberry Swing as there was Amsterdam or Politik?

To say that Eno sucked the emotion out of the Viva album is to say that he wrote the lyrics, wrote each instrumental section, and also produced it as he did. I know that he contributed to/assisted with the lyrics every now and then, but Chris was solely in charge of that. Eno's sole contribution to the album was providing the sonic soundscapes and helping them to understand where they need to be as musicians. I, personally, was thrilled with what they did, and the more listened, the greater I liked it. Now I almost always listen from start to finish as they said it was supposed to be listened to (not that you absolutely have to) and enjoy it that way. I for one don't want another A Rush of Blood to the Head. I want progression and growth. Maturity and professionalism. And if they keep going back to what they've already done, they will not grow in those ways. I appreciate Eno's contributions to the band and to Viva la Vida, and I think that, due to his influence on them, this next album is going to be brilliant. The boys are finally finding themselves as musicians and discovering what it means to expand their ideas and cover more territory.
Having said this, I find it very difficult to compare Viva la Vida to Parachutes, as they contain two totally different sounds. Parachutes is so raw and stripped down and Viva la Vida is so colorful and full of different sounds. I think Viva la VIda is better than Parachutes for certain reasons and I think Parachutes is better than Viva la Vida for certain reasons. But at the end of the day, everyone is going to have their own opinion about which album is the best or which is their favorite, and to try and argue against each others opinions probably isn't going to get us anywhere. I have stated my opinion about Eno's contributions to Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Everyone else has stated their opinions as well. I think the best thing for us to do now is to accept that our opinions differ and go back to discussing the topic to which this thread was dedicated. The new album is still a few months away, and the new single is probably a few days away. Let's not be too critical at this point and just continue to hope for the best. |
