Default 12 Coldplay months of 2009: OCTOBER (Three awards given)

October.....

Sigh of Relief: Latin America Tour announced.

To the relief of Latin America Coldplay Fans, Coldplay finally announced their Viva La Vida Latin American Tour. Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico are featured on the list and a second Mexico show was announced at the end of October.

“Coldplay are pleased to announce a tour of Latin America for February/March 2010. The seven stadium shows will mark the end of the band's Viva La Vida world tour, which has so far seen them play 159 shows to 2.75 million fans across 25 countries.”

To those going: Enjoy!

Roadie #42: No hope for fans…The Bakery is not for sale.

Two weeks after the Wembley shows, Roadie 42# (who has a lovely cat) still seemed somewhat exhausted when he explained what finishing a tour felt like after months on the road.
He also revealed that the band were back in the studio after a well deserved break. He even let slip that Coldplay had found a new studio.

“Just as the Bakery was at its birth, this place is currently no more than a broken down shell, which will become a warm womb in which to grow the next little member of the album family.”

This revelation sparked fear among fans that this meant the end of the famous “Bakery” but the all-knowing Oracle quickly explained that the Bakery was still in use. Fans had to abandon their hope of buying the Bakery.

Roadie #42 and the Wembley Memories.

After a well-deserved break, Roadie#42 published a blog about the amazing Wembley shows. He reminisced his numerous memories about the gigantic stadium.

About the show he said

“If I were just to recount my personal memories, they would include turning around during the encores to see a crowd gathered behind the Video department's control world, all dancing to his monitor speakers. Is that Jay-Z? It most certainly is! Who's that with him? Clear Channel rep, Julie Metway - and bugger me, Phil Harvey is trading moves with Mr Z!”

Charity Show: Keep a Child Alive

Chris Martin played a low-key solo performance at the Keep A Child Alive's 6th Annual Black Ball at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City (15th October). Wearing a suit and tie, he played Clocks, Viva La Vida and If Ain’t Got You with Alicia Keys.
The event, hosted by Alicia Keys and Padma Lakshmi, benefited children & families with HIV/AIDS in Africa & India.

Bridge School Benefit: another Charity show for Chris Martin

For two nights in a row, Chris Martin performed solo at Neil Young's annual Bridge School Benefit, which raises funds for students with severe speech and physical disabilities.

Chris played alongside violinist Davide Rossi (whose works can be heard on Viva La Vida) and performed Clocks, Lost?, Yellow, My Love Will Not Let You Down (Bruce Springsteen), Maple Leaf Rag (Scott Joplin), Viva la Vida and Earth Angel (The Penguins).

“Despite a couple of flubs, Chris Martin from Coldplay sat behind a piano and knocked out what was arguably the finest 30 minutes of the night” wrote Rolling Stone.

Here’s a rendition of “Yellow”:

The Sun: 5th album in the works!

According to British tabloid The Sun, Coldplay quickly started working on the fifth album. The band are even expected to release the album in late 2010. According to a source, “they have got a huge reserve of ideas together during their time on the road and they want to get the demos down while they are fresh. They are already excited about the next project."

The Royal Mail: let’s use the mail again

à

This will make a few us write letters again...and not only at Christmas.

NME announced that Coldplay, Blur, The Clash, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin were among the acts set to featured on a new range of British Royal Mail stamps, which will feature classic British album sleeves. Coldplay's 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' has been chosen and the set will enter circulation on January 7.

Take a look at the stamps here: http://www.norphil.co.uk/2010/01-alb...ers_stamps.htm

The “Viva La Vida” Plagiarism Thriller (or farce)

Statepress wrote an interesting article concerning the Joe Satriani case, who claimed that the band had stole “substantial, original portions” from his hit song If I Could Fly. According to Statepress the whole drama was a little more than a musical coincidence. While the case has been quietly settled, Statepress cannot help wonder:

“[…] how many more trials of “stolen intellectual property” will continue before we appreciate the fact that our judicial system is not in place to coddle our egos.”

Bands on Touring with Coldplay

White Lies and the Flaming Lips both mentioned touring with Coldplay during interviews. White Lies toured with the band during the Viva La Vida tour then supported Kings of Leon. Bassist Charles Cave said the experience with Kings of Leon was “fantastic” as the two bands had grown close.

"It's probably the most enjoyable support tour we've ever done, sorry (Coldplay front man) Chris Martin, sorry Snow Patrol.”

Meanwhile, Flaming Lip’s Wayne Coyne acknowledged the difficulty for opening bands of playing stadium shows

You know, we played some shows opening up for Coldplay. They were these giant stadium shows in Paris and Barcelona and around Europe and stuff. You’d think that if you were playing to 60,000 people, they’re bound to respond. Well, they don’t at all […]. Me and the fellas all sort of remarked after those Coldplay shows of how you really do play for yourselves sometimes.”

“And they were all Yellow” (Sorry.Had to do it): The Simpsons and Coldplay, Part II.

The Simpsons’ creators announced that a lucky contest winner’s character would appear alongside Coldplay in one of the show’s episode which will have the band as guest stars. The show's website gave viewers one week to come up with a name and description of a new character. Coldplay’s appearance on Simpsons was announced back in July and Chris Martin will lend his vocals.

Finally, some well deserved awards…

Coldplay were awarded several prices in October. Viva La Vida won an American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers "Song of the Year" award while both the song and the album won two TEC awards (Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards). According to Anchorman, the latter recognizes “the achievements of audio professionals.”

Animation production collective Shynola were big winners at UK Music Video Awards, collecting three awards for Strawberry Swing. They were awarded video of the year, best rock video and best animation in a video.

Strawberry Swing, featuring Chris Martin as a caped superhero saving the chalk-drawn princess from a giant squirrel, was voted favorite video from the Viva La Vida era by Coldplayers.

One verse of Wedding bells, written by Coldplay:
Those wedding bells are ringing up upon that hill
I don't want to swallow such a bitter pill
You keep moving baby, I stay still
I always loved you and I always will
La La La La, La La La La
.. and everything that went before doesn't matter
La La La La, La La La La
I always loved you and I always will

My suggestion to a continuation:
Those wedding bells are ringing, but baby I stay
Sadly you and me just got so far away
Oh, though our time is back in the past
my love for you dear, it will always last
La La La La..

Those wedding bells are ringing, and baby you go
Honey, I'll still stay here as you left me so
I will stay and look back to the start
You will always have a place in my heart
La La La La...

Those wedding bells are ringing, babe I hear the tweet
The sound of them makes me feel so bittersweet
Your feet will move while I stay in place
My love for you dear, it's a living space
La La La La..

Thanks - very good work indeed and wonderful pictures - especially the ones where Chris wears that beautiful beanie - I simply looove that beanie. I was not sure of whether I should vote for the concert with Alicia Keys as host and Chris Martin dressed in a way we are not used to see OR the Bridge School Benefit where Chris wears that beautiful beanie - well the beanie made the choice for me.

I was soo sad when they announced the tour, because Chile is not included... I'm still a bit sad about that but I'm very happy I'll have the chance to see them in February
