Coldplays 5th - Parachutes II??

Jonny Buckland has said there is a possibility that their next album will be quite acoustic. Add this to what Chris Martin said in saying that it will be quite stripped down, does this mean we are going to get a Parachutes II? What do you think?

As much as I love Parachutes, I don't want a rehash of a previous album. I'm totally fine with drawing elements from Parachutes (in fact, it would sound great), but mirroring a past work generally does you no favors.

In other words, go ahead and give me an evolution of Parachutes along with other new tricks they have, not Parachutes 2.0.

I don't think they'll ever record an album that's a copy of Parachutes. For one, they've evolved as a band since then, so they're not in the same place they were before. I imagine that the new album will be acoustic and stripped down, similar to Parachutes in that way, but will be an evolution of Viva La Vida and the path they're on now.

No, that's not what I meant. I just meant that it'll probably be more like Viva La Vida than Parachutes in terms of songwriting, even if it's an acoustic and stripped down album. It's very unlikely they'll put out an exact copy of Parachutes 9 or 10 years down the road.

As much as I like Parachutes, it's not my favourite album in terms of sound. I think someone mentioned it in another thread, that maybe by stripped down and acoustic they mean songs like 'Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground' or 'Prospekt's March'.

Parachutes was an intimate album that reflects their 'uni' years... Tha way Chris sang at that time, you almost have the impression he's singing for himself and not for an audience....It's totally different now, and as they said, they 'included' the 'must-have-to-play-this-in-front-of-thousand-of-people' factor during the writing process....
So I guess it will have a PM feel and maybe Parachutes feel, but it will not be 'as quiet' or 'simple'... They have learned so many instruments, and I sense that they will continue to 'multitask' on LP 5 (Will learning the accordion is not gratuitous I feel...^^)

Anyway, I can't wait to hear what they come up with!
