Default What is your first Historical event memory?

What is the first Historical event that you have experienced that you can remember?

And so you think it has influenced you and people your age?

I remember that we were asked that in a class, and most my friends answered Lady Di death.

So what is the first one you can remember?

First one I remember is most likely the first Gulf War (I think?) though I was too young to understand most of it.

First one I witnessed as it happened was the 9/11 attacks - longest night at work ever.

It probably wasn't the first, but the earliest I really remember all the details was 9/11. I was in fourth grade at the time and I came home and my parents told me all about what had happened. I kept thinking it had to have been an accident but everyone assured me it was an attack. The next day in school we spent the whole day sitting and just talking. It was really something.

It definitely opened my eyes, and from that day on, everything seemed to change. I am glad America has been able to somewhat heal and get stronger, but that day will live on in our hearts forever.

Hmm...

Bombardment in 1999. Don't know how they called it, but I know they attacked Serbia. I was 4. I think it influenced memories of my friends, probably all of us remember going to the basements, the sound of alarms and airplane engines, etc.

I think it'd be the Y2K celebrations as Lauren said, we had a historical celebration next to the Pyramids, it was mind blowing!

Probably 9/11 also. I think I was in second grade during it... it was scary. I remember my dad picking me up from school and being really stressed out, and I asked him if he was okay, and he said, "NO, UNKNOWN THOUSANDS HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF A TERRORIST ATTACK ON NEW YORK CITY!" He was really freaked out. I got sort of scared....

I sort of remember Y2K also, but not that really well or anything.

I was really young and didn't know quite what was happening. Yes, it was scary. Don't be sorry! There are a lot of such things in the world, and a lot of worse things

And if somebody is interested, look here (I didn't read it, but I guess it's a good text).

While 9/11 was big, I can remember well before that. So I'll say the '96 Olympics and Kerri Strug's vault. (I know there was also the bombing at that olympics, but I didn't know at the time...)

I remember Y2K very well. I was in the 4th grade, and for fun we all made time capsules that we would open on January 1st, 2001. That, and the fact that people were freaking out and stocking up cupboards.
