that's exactly what he's doing. The book tab complicates it but it's basically downward arpeggios of the d,g,b strings while holding A major chord and then the three highest strings while holding an E minor. Pretty simple. strum the full open chord first before arpeggiating if you want, it just imitates the slides in a lower octave which is nice when you don't have two guitars overdubbed.

12 -> 7

the outro is just 12s and 7s, and on the last strum you keep moving down to 5 or whatever.

Are you sure? I've seen video of him playing Trouble right after playing a song in standard tuning without changing guitars.

Play it yourself and compare it to the album. an open e doesn't sound right and I'm going by the book. It's not a tough tune change to make live, just a quick twist is all.

If I attempt to play slide, it's going to sound mangled regardless of the tuning...

You could be right though, it's not like he has to retune all the strings or anything.

You don't need a slide for the intro though, just pick the bit yellowtalk posted and you'll hear the difference.

at least I know how to play it !! it's about tune one step down E5 string and it sounds perfect !!
