o it is goodbye to agony and hello and a big warm welcome to ecstasy.

More than forty years after the club’s last outing in Europe’s premier club competition the Blues are back.

In an ironic twist of fate City’s place in the top four was secured by Peter Crouch who put through his own goal, the ball finding the same netting that captured his winning effort for Spurs last season.

It was sweet pay-back for Blues fans who saw Spurs celebrate their own ascent into the Champions League ranks thanks to the lanky England man at CoMs a year ago.

Like last time there was always doubt where the joy would sit at the end of the night even though Spurs arrived six points behind City and with their wily and successful manager Harry Redknapp seemingly in full on deflection mode ahead of the contest.

Riddled with injuries but their pride on show Spurs made City work and sweat for the victory that locked away the main objective of the season

...Chris Bailey

City welcomed back Micah Richards to right back with Pablo Zabaleta shifting left and Aleks Kolarov on the bench.

The defender was in good company for sat alongside him was leading scorer and captain Carlos Tevez hoping for a few minutes to prove his readiness for the FA Cup final.

This was a night when team and fans were in perfect sync. A symposium of like minds straining sinew and vocal chords with one simple aim – collect the three points that would secure fourth spot and put pressure on Arsenal for third!

With Nigel DeJong in thou shalt not pass mood and David Silva an elusive, livewire on the flanks and in open spaces, Tottenham were always tested. It was an impressive return, too, for the aforementioned Richards.

Dzeko missed a golden chance to calm nerves in the 11th minute when his finishing failed to match his approach play.

He cushioned Joleon Lescott’s long clearance into the path of David Silva but when the return pass came the Bosnian shot straight at Carlo Cudicini.

It was debateable which was worse that or the miss by Luka Modric in the 27th minute. The Spurs man bending his shot wide of a gaping target.

Crouch’s own goal three minutes later only served to put an exclamation mark behind the Croatian’s error

...Chris Bailey

It came after a short corner and a low driven cross to the near post by James Milner.

Spurs were bright after the break and Joe Hart was at his best to paw away sub Steven Pienaar’s header. Hart was in superlative form at White Hart Lane in the season opener and Tottenham must be fed up with him.

A stray Crouch arm did for Pablo Zabaleta and he left the pitch with a splattered nose as the pressure built on a home side that for the second time in four days running was on the end of a post-break revival.

Spurs though couldn’t create anything more than half chances and the best opening of the lot came in the dying moments when Tevez - on for Silva – slipped another replacement, Patrick Vieira, into the box. His chip looked to have sealed matters but William Gallas popped up from nowhere to clear off the line.

Buoyed by the crowd, City held on well and celebrated in style and Hart equalled Nick Weaver’s record number of clean sheets into the bargain.

Now fingers crossed for the quick win double at Wembley on Saturday and the biggest Poznan ever seen!

I remember telling somebody they could quote me on the fact that Tootenham wouldn't make Champions League. Can't remember who

Wasn't this only quite recently to be fair? I think it was Navegador and I think City were at least 3 points ahead of Spurs.

Let's be 'avin' you (Part II): Delia delivers new rant at football crowd after champagne reception

By Andrew Levy

Last updated at 9:42 PM on 11th May 2011

Going up: Delia Smith saluted Norwich City's promotion to the Premier League in giggly fashion today

Six years after a well-refreshed Delia Smith ranted ‘Let’s be ’avin’ you’ at football fans, she has delivered an action replay.
Addressing a crowd of 40,000 celebrating Norwich City’s promotion, she broke into chants, giggled, tripped over her words, mispronounced the manager’s name and swore.
Delia, 69, the majority shareholder in the club, had attended a champagne reception at the City Hall before heading out on to the balcony with husband Michael Wynn Jones and other club directors.
She was handed a microphone and started chanting ‘Come on, let’s be ’avin’ you’ – recreating her 2005 half-time address after the team had squandered a 2-0 lead.
The multi-millionairess cookery queen started chuckling as her husband commented: ‘Anyone would think she’d invented the bloody phrase.’
She went on to call Norwich manager Paul Langbert, instead of Lambert, mistakenly called on the fans to toast ‘staying up’ instead of celebrating promotion to the Premier League, and used an expletive which had some parents reaching to cover their children’s ears.
‘Just think of this wonderful thing,’ she said. ‘We haven’t gotta go in the fr**ging play-offs next year.’ A presenter on BBC Radio Norfolk, which was broadcasting the event live, said: ‘Delia Smith,

Another added: ‘I think this is as good a place as any to leave it, don’t you?’

Rousing rendition: Delia Smith led supporters of Norwich City in her infamous chant 'Let's be havin you' after the club were promoted to the Premiership

The emotional outpouring happened shortly after dignitaries including the city’s Lord Mayor had left the balcony.

The team, which finished second in the Championship behind QPR, had also departed to board a bus for a triumphant tour through the streets.
Going down: She tries to stir the fans with an infamous half-time message

A witness said: ‘It was all a bit cringeworthy.

‘She was holding the microphone at a funny angle like she thought she was a pop singer.

‘I think she feels she has to fit in with the “football crowd”. Everyone was relieved when it came to an end.’
A club spokesman refused to say whether Delia had been drinking.

However, she is known to like a tipple and once admitted on her website that she would never be a ‘one-glass’ girl.

Her 2005 rant came after Manchester City managed to draw level after 45 minutes despite having gone 2-0 down.

She grabbed a microphone from the club announcer and shouted: ‘A message for the best football supporters in the world. We need a 12th man here. Where are you? Where are you? Let’s be ’avin’ you. Come on.’

Man City to draw Bayern Munich in the play-off round and get absolutely destroyed.

I wouldn't mind Swansea or Cardiff getting into the Premiership. Burnley have been in, so it's already been tainted.

Swansea are a good team, I love them to hammer Cardiff in the final.
