Default Just my 2 cents about the free shows....

"We're doing a concert in Madison Square Garden for free, which no one's ever done before because it costs, like, a million pounds to play there," he said. "We're paying for it because we want to be generous for a bit, before we're reminded that we have to get back to being on a record contract."

C'mon......EVERYBODY KNOWS they don't wil pay for the show.....their label will pay.

i really don't care who pays for them and why. all i care is 1) how to get a ticket, 2) is there a non-free show, so i can buy ticket with real money without signing up to stupid email list and hoping to be a lucky one, 3) and last not least - all these free tickets will be on sale on eBay or craigslist - so it's not really free. i really don't get this idea "we playing free". releasing albums in internet - yes, playing for free - no.

You actually don't like that they're giving away FREE tickets?

You can go to Philly, the first official non-free show!

No. Don't matter how much I'm Coldplay fan, I think the whole idea of "free show" especially in city such as New York is stupid. I've been on NY concerts, first rows are VIPs, middle row are guests/friends/relatives of MSG employees, and all real and die hard fan get is last rows. I've seen people from first row text messaging entire concert, and talking on the phone, and doing whatever but enjoying the show.

This show will be not different.
Oh, there's one thing. I can't even get a last row ticket now.

You make a good point in many ways....the free show is more a industry event than for fans. Ultimately, the fans are paying for this really, I mean $100 for a ticket at face value-nearer $130 with ticketing fees.

That's quite a cynical way of looking at it.

Well, I will have an educated guess that at least 50% of tickets will go to promoters, sponsors, record label etc. MSG is about 20,000 capacity. Notice the band is not saying how many tickets it is giving away?

You know who the real winner is in all this?
The gas companies. They will be making so much money because people will be willing to drive cross-country for a free Coldplay show. They will be loading up on cash cuz by the time its June 23rd, gas will be at an average of $4 per gallon nationwide.

Its a conspiracy man.

Hmm true. Well, I hope any fans that do get tickets have a good time all the same and don't have it spoiled by men in suits. I've been to a gig full of snobs and it's awful.

They did in the terms and conditions, it was only something like 3,000 tickets

It sucks that they are shafting the fans

urgghhh!!! 3,000 is even less than i thought...i would rather they have restricted entry to locals. anybody who wins outside the area will have to pay several hundred $ in travel, hotels etc

it said 3500 people win a pair of tickets so there will be at least 7000 tickets given away. which still leaves 50% for the suits
