Default They could give something more to their fans.....

....along with the album.
I'm talking about something like a "limited edition" with stuff like video sessions from the studio and other cool things from the recording sessions.
I don't know if its their fault or we can blame EMI for this but GOD DAMMIT even a small band like the feeder give something to their fans (in the new album they got a special dvd ).
Coldplay or their label needs to be more down to earth with their fans.
What do y'all think ?

I think the band would like to be "closer" to us fans and give us more value for our money... The fact that they're signed to EMI though I think prevents them from doing a lot of that- being signed to EMI has its perks of course... amazing amount of publicity... good management on the business side of selling albums, access to producers etc. But I think Coldplay have sort of hit back- there's loads of stuff they've given us through the net for free/nominal sum (though we ourselves have to make some effort to find them). Stuff that comes to mind e.g. the Nappies, 2000 Miles, stuff on the Coldplayer etc. I think there's some subversion on the bands part.. they do seem to be gleefully trying to give out as much free stuff as they can without getting into trouble with their record label (though it amount is limited because they are so meticulous about quality).

I have a feeling later on when their (is it 5?) album deal with EMI runs out and if they do still care as strongly and passionately about how fans feel, they may leave EMI and either sign with a new company or form their own. I don't know them but I think that the guys do believe in music as more than just a job/passion. And I think deep down inside they must be so happy that there are fans and sites like this one with so many people sharing and celebrating their music despite all the inteference from EMI and trade laws

I'm okay with what we get. They do things for free, like Nappies and the Christmas video and the making of AROBTTH. EMI probably doesn't let them, but they still get around it.

You are happy about this kind of free stuff ?
It's cool ok,but i prefer to have something more when i give them my MONEY instead of a bunch of free stuff and some diaries of an engineer in an online diary.

The type of content could be better I suppose... But that's personal, I'm sure there are many people who would rather have this. Besides, it's a pretty diverse bunch of stuff.. Making's of, stuff from their crew, unreleased songs/covers, fun stuff they do on the side... It shows a more personal side to them IMHO.

As for the "something more" you're talking about, what exactly would that be? Bonus tracks, bonus footage, online stuff? But oh, we already have all that ... without having to buy the album.

As for stuff from the recording process, I don't think the guys will release it... 1) they won't even give us lyrics coz it'll distract from "listening to the music" 2) they want to maintain some mystery about their recording process 3) they want privacy and not have us speculate about each and every little shouting match/disagreement they have 4) they might think it's boring/have little worth "...you actually want to watch a bunch of ugly men milling around doing nothing at staring into space for 4 hours???..." as Chris might say

I'm talking about something like a "documentary" of the album,a "making of" with a few clips of footage from the studio, some live recordings.....i don't care about the stuff on the coldplayer

Actually they have had that... There are 2 "documentaries" of their albums (actually make that at least 3, including SoS)... The making of AROBTTH and also one for X&Y (with NME). All of them free whether you want them or not... shown on TV or downloadable if you take the trouble to look. They also had footage of the recording process on their official site (with the guys milling around although there was no sound). Then they had the Live 2003 DVD- I would argue that what they were selling was mainly the concert footage (note the title ) while the other tour footage should be considered "bonus"... Either way (free or not), I'm not too bothered with the price I paid for it- 60 bucks local currency for DVD quality concert + live footage + CD when a music CD by itself goes for over 40 bucks.

Like I said earlier, I think the recording process at the studio is off-limits... they might think it's unprofessional/too private. Same thing with live recordings... I may be over-defending them, but I think that basically the guys are just too self-conscious of themselves to release some live tracks together with their album when there's so much other material they've left off. It'd be pretty hypocritical to say you've recorded 20 ace songs for the album and left off 9 because of lack of space but then add on 3 live tracks instead- these live tracks also become copy-righted material.

And I think also they don't want to "short-change" fans by including sub-standard live recordings of album songs together with their studio album. They released Live 2003... I think this was a right choice as it gave them better production and sound quality for their live performances.

I have come to the conclusion that Dejan is never satisfied.

The new album has but a month and a half under its belt... give it time!!! Maybe a dvd with extras is on the way?? (well more extras....) I think they have given plenty to the fans. Free gigs to test out the material... bonus features on the site... backstage docu's... etc. I think you'll find that during this tour.. which is sure to run for over a year and a half.. you will see more of Coldplay.

I like it. They aren't trying to milk the fans. I suppose they think that a special interview here and there (like the one before X&Y came out--which was free) that shows alittle bit of the studio and such and a live DVD every tour with a little documentary is all we need, and really, it is.

I wouldn't want them to release all these special edition things and such... Like Bright Eyes. It's overwhelming how many albums and bit and bobs they have avalible. Three albums, a live DVD/CD and some EPs and they're good.

It's more about the music with them I suppose.

And another thing, you never see a Coldply shirt just out on the stores like alot of bands. I suppose they think they're in everyone's face enough as it is. (Like this morning, I heard them mentioned on some VH1 special on Aqualung, Speed of Sound used on an ad for N and their nomination for five VMAs all within about 5 minutes, no joke. Not that I mind )

Besides man, they only have three albums out! Give 'em atleast 4 or 5, eh? I think they stil feel like they aren't established enough to release anything like that. (Even though, God knows they are )

[/ramble]

I don't think I made much sense, but that's my two cents!

well, in my experience, the bands who have DVDs with their albums release 2 versions. you get the album on its own, then if you pay more money you can get the album with bonus DVD. in reality you're paying £3 or £4 more for that 'free' bonus DVD

i think they really like the fans.that is why they play so many places.i think they just havent got any time.i always hear in theirs interwiev that they are like palying and this is the best thing what they ever done.and they dont do it because it is realxing thing but because they want to share the feeling what they have.i think it is cool that they dont give us so much "entertaiment" because if they do then they can be just ordinary. so i just expecting the next dvd what possibly released after the tour.

... Like I said, the possibility's there. Who knows?

But I would like you to consider a key-word: quality control
This is one thing the band have never compromised on and I thank God it looks unlikely that they will ever let slip on this one.
