Waiting In Line

This is a question for those who have been and done.... and anyone else who thinks they know what should be done

I'm going to a coldplay concert the end of September and I have general admission for the orchestra pit. What I'm not so sure about is...
when do I start lining up? I would ideally like to get as close to the stage as possible for best viewing.. but, I've never done one of these huge concerts before.. so I'm not sure if I should be queing days before or just hours before...
Any suggestions for a concert virgin?

Well....I went to cologne concert and I was in front of the stage

...I arrived there just 2h before they opened the doors. I got in and took the places. It was 3.30 and Colds began to play at 9 :/

Yes - that was a bit of a drag, wasn't it? Especially with the dreadful warm-up music and the first support act, which was awful!

I was at Bolton 40 minutes before they opened the doors and I got a good place dead centre, 4 rows back.

Just don't drink a lot or you will need to leave your place and go to the toilet.

I was there 7 hours before the doors opened. I was front row, right in the middle.

I only got there an hour and a half before the gates opened in Cologne and I got right to the front there!!

Hmm, ours was around 40,000, but I saw that only the people who were in line 6/7 hours up front were well, up front, against the fence.

Well that's awful!! I've only ever queued that long for Wimbledon - but there you get a seat and action the whole day (unless it rains), so it's worth it. I would never queue that long for a concert, only to have to wait another few hours for it to start.
How long did you have to wait inside for the first act to start??

Ehm, about half an hour...and then another hour till Richard Ashcroft...and Coldplay came on at 9 pm.
BTW, it was not really like we were queueing for 7 hours, when we got there there was no queue. We were the first people to arrive

Well that's a bit strange, because at our concert it was about three hours before anything happened inside. Doors opened 3pm, first act after 6. And THAT act I could quite easily have done without!!

At ours it was 5.30 doors open, 9 pm Coldplay.
