Well, tbh I became a fan really at the beginning, and I loved them already, it's just that this era was a revelation I guess

I'd say they gained lots of fans during this era (thank you Paradise), despite the mixed critics from media and Coldplay fans themselves.

Perhaps but among those "false" fans there are probably a lot of people who actually got interested in their older songs and now really love a good chunk of their discography, and maybe bought tickets to their concerts as well.

Don't take it like an offence to you, I've became a true Coldplay fan with Paradise release, but many people now think that Coldplay are just xylobands, Paradise and ETIAW.

I think they gained more fans, but what kind of fans I dare not speak. They lost some, too, but that is in most cases only a temporary change, methinks.

I was into Clocks when it came out, but I didn't know it was Coldplay until later in the VlVoDaAHF era. I got into them during the Viva era, but not as seriously until ETIAW was released.

Yes, but Viva era in my opinion was amazing, they release an album FREE, the songs totaly rocks and they had collaborations with great musician, now we have Rihanna, live show with the same setlist from May, ticket that cost a lot and that fuckin' bullshit called "gold floor".

All you said doesn't influence the number of fans at all. I mean, it potentially could but first it's only your opinion, and then well their tour was freaking huge, and by that I mean that they sold out almost every single one of their shows, so to me it shows that a lot of people do like this era.

Now, we have xylobands instead of LRLRL. (If they kept the free album idea, I'm sure someone would complain about lack of creativity). If I'm not mistaken, during VLV era, their setlist didn't change much neither.
