Examples... musically that Coldplay for me is the best band, speaking, but is sad this... Two cokes and two sandwiches 21 euros within the Sant Jordi in barcelona concert, when a girl just alongside was requesting to me to collaborate with the MAKE TRADE FAIR.. between tickets, sandwiches and cokes I signed... (still was thinking... fuck with the right commerce... 21 euros of fast food)... an official t-shirt within palau... 45 euros....of course... (made in Nicaruagua)... i´m question me to if those that had done them would receive a good wage for that reason.... I begin to doubt....when the finishing the concert....alaaaaa t-shirts of the tour to 10 euros with poor people with cold... (i´m confused)... for coback in the screen of the concert they appear to me the Brad pitt and kate moss among others requesting with the one of live 8... fuck!!.!The rich ones ask the poor men! they are famous for their solidarities?? or for their private partys??...... and speaking of Chris Martin... he have like mother of its daughter one women that as actress to my does not go to me but... is more famous by its campaigns of pendants of diamonds of Cartier, campaigns of estee to luader and versace, in addition to to have been one of the first famous ones in buying the new mobil of more expensive gold and diamonds of the world..where is the humility.??...more.. I know... is necessary to see the pictures of the hotel where Chris Martin and Paltrow they were in Mexico,in Ghana?in Etipia?? no in La ventanas del Paraiso (luxury)... without speaking of the celebration of birthday of Kate moss with a lots of champagne , the girl it took a pendant of rubis and sapphires and diamonds ...who are in the poor party???? go the news: "the model Kate Moss, one of the best one paid in the United Kingdom, has turned thirty years and it has celebrated east weekend to it with a marathon celebration plagued of famous, glamour and champán, much champán. According to public today the British press, Moss did not scrimp expenses and rented the ground floor of the select Claridge hotel of London for convite, that began Friday in the evening and it extended during thirty hours, in honor to the thirtieth birthday of the model. Between the 130 guests they appeared Ronnie Wood, guitarist of the "Rolling Stones"; the actress Gwyneth Paltrow, accompanied by its husband, Chris Martin, leader of the band "Coldplay", the model Naomi Campbell and the seamstress Stella McCartney. Entertained with flowers and gifts, Moss surprised all with an elegant blue, long but generous dress of decollete, that the fashion of years twenty imitated and did game with a necklace formed by thirty diamonds, flattery of the French designer Louis Vuitton. So not to that as much stupidities comes from that by for the great poorer poor marks paises is every month and rich the richest ones... when they are they them first that they waste and request to the proletarians one that support us by these causes... cleaning of image???.stupids absolutely we are not... ladies and gentlemen ... To my personally always I will have left his music that is what it matters to me and reason why I was interested in them... COLDPLAY EVER

Make Trade Fair in principle is great
But it'll never work, as long as its legal to make profits. And also cos if it does happen, prices will go up, more people will be unemployed and a decrease in the standard of our living. Keep trade unfair Anyway Rich people do donate alot of money to charity and it'd be foolish to demand more. Coldplay donate 10% of their royalites to charity and my maths is crap but thats gonna be in the millions.

Uuuuh. I tried reading that, but I find it quite hard to see your point, atlantida.
Anyways, dropping some superfluous subsidies to decrease the effects of price dumping is not a bad idea at all. The Make Trade Fair campain in general is a very good initiative. The thing that annoys me greatly, however, is that so many people sign up for it without having any idea what it is. Sure, it's a noble cause and so forth, but it's quite irrelevant - supporting ideas you cannot support with your own arguments is how fascism is born. I've had a lot of people talking about MTF having no clue what the WTO is, for instance. Makes me cringe... |

I'm confused as to what you're trying to say exactly atlantida, but I guess your main point is that Chris says he's all for making trade fair, but he lives a luxurious life?
If that's what you mean, then yes, he has a luxurious life. You can't expect him not to considering what he does for a living. I prefer a celebrity that's active and helping awareness of a good cause, but is not perfect of course and still lives his rich man's life.. as opposed to a celebrity that does nothing for the world we live in. Because you see in both cases, they will still live a rich man's life. As for the expensive shirts and merchandise at the concerts, you have to remember that Coldplay is in a big label (EMI/Capitol) and they will make the shirts for profit and not for anything else. Coldplay as a whole do enough as it is already for the world we live in, and what Chris and his big, celebrity wife Gwyneth do in their personal lives is irrelevant. Big hotels, diamonds and jewels, lavish celebrity parties - whatever it may be, Coldplay are still doing much more than the average person (not to mention the average band) right now. The good they do shouldn't be discredited just because he leads a celebrity life. Every celeb leads the life, but not many do what Coldplay take the time to do and to enforce.

So basically you're trying to say that Chris Martin does not practice what he preaches?

Well them Coldplay T-shirts you can buy at gigs probably cost 50 cents to make by some poor kid in Asia. Same for every other band in the world and what not.
Make trade fair and you risk higher costs, more unemployment and lower quality of life. Remember that next time you use your broadband internet or turn the central heating on.

Well Fair Trade isnt about making prices highter its about giving poor people in poor countries a fair trade for their goods. Consider Colombia the price of a pound of coffee $1.08 and has not changed for the past 3 years. Companies like starbucks by up this cofee and grind it making into drinks they sell at 2-5 dollars per cup. A normal pound of beans can make around 100 cups so Starbucks is making around 200 to 500 dollars of each pound of cofee they buy while Colombian farmers are starving and the economy is crumbling thanks to the guerrila which cant be fought of without more weapons which cant be brought from anyone but the USA but since our income on tax on cofee has been cut down more than %1500 in the past 5 years. This is a sad example of gross overpricing by companies who take advantage of the needs of colombian farmers to survive. Even a couple more dollars per bag would be more acceptable and would do so much good to the economy and youd barely cut the profit by a couple dollars. . .
Thats all I Think about when I think about fair trade.. |

Yes but if you pay the supplier more money then you have to raise your prices up as well. Companies shareholders will demand this. Shareholders demand growing profits. Simple business fact. Goodwill and sense of honour does not come into.
I agree with the idea of fair trade, but alas life isnt fair.

I think I pretty much comprehend Make Trade Fair. I know I support it -- and at times I'm guilty of not having a defense to those who ask for it.
Basically, the rich countries have started dumping their extra goods onto smaller, poorer countries at a fraction of the cost. Local farmers cannot compete with the price drop, and are thus put out of business and back into poverty. Does that pretty much cover it? Or is there more to it?

Well, please elaborate on the other part.
I really want to understand this before I dive headfirst into supporting it.

The fact that other goverments are forcing there companies into small 3rd world country markets (which in and of itself is not wrong) the wrong part comes is that when the small goverment tries to pass a law to protect themselves from allowing such companies to enter bigger goverments bully them into not passing it under the premise of "free trade" (whic is wrong) and basically that 3rd world countries cant get fair prices for their products...
