Ok,

so I'd like to start off saying that I'm really happy my mixtape went to someone who enjoyed it and wrote a long, well-thought review. I actually switched from Tauiwi (who already knew of Elbow) to you, so a stroke of fate

thrilled you liked it!
Allright, now I'll try to answer question by question since I have the time now

:
I am younger than you and I just recently got into rock music (thank you, Viva La Vida), though my Dad has a huge collection (of Neil Young etc.) so I've grown up with Jazz, The Beatles, Neil, and all that stuff

My knowledge of music isn't
that great, most of it's been within the last year.
I really loved Elbow after they opened for Coldplay and so early Peter Gabriel was recommended to me, and I bought an album (Go! I think) last visit to the States. It was very, very good and there was this one song called Games Without Frontiers that really stood out

so there we have that song.
The Dire Straits song was the first song in the entertainment system on Lufthansa (

) so there I earned another favorite. It appears on quite a few of my mixtapes. Sugar Mountain has to be the best all-around Neil Young song. I fell in love with the Live Rust version long ago, but didn't want a live song on my mix. That, and the fact that I picked Leaders Of The Free World, was the biggest reason I didn't put Like A Hurricane live on there.
Ok, excuse for The Girl And The Robot

the guys who made it are local guys (Røyksopp) who recently released another succesful album, Junior. This is my favorite track off the album and is supposedly a big hit in Europe according to someone I know, lovely vocals by Robyn. There are only two guys so they borrow vocalists. Basically it's advertising for Norwegian music

The reason it maybe didn't fit was because I work from beginning and end in tracklistings and so I have a vague idea how the middle part will look like. The Girl And The Robot was originally supposed to go in the start some place, but I risked it with Daddy's Gone (which sort of payed off

) I saw somewhere you liked Keane and gave it shot in there. Made sure to put Musik Fur Alle (pardon the quality, extremley rare) close to it.
But, yes, the main reason with the mix was to fit in Elbow. I knew where I wanted Leaders Of The Free World (track #5 on the album with the same name) but wasn't sure what other songs to put on there from them. The reason you probably didn't recoginse them is cause I took one song from 3 of their 4 albums. Powder Blue should probably have been Mirrorball, and The Bones Of You was misplaced. They are songs that fit perfectly on Elbow albums, not so well on mixtapes with other great hits.
I heard the Franz Ferdinand song on the radio (again, last time in the states) on the road after In My Place and loved the chord progressions. Walk Away, check.
No, not all Regina Spektor songs are slow, that was a last minute change to fit in the mellow part. The thing with Regina, though, is either you hate her or love her for her voice. 80's Dance Anthem is one of those songs, so I dropped it.
The Aquarium (last time to the States

) was part of my classic playlist and has to be one of the greatest musical pieces ever.
I love instrumentals

and place them carefully. Opus 36 is another favorite on mixes and
the 2 The Clean songs were also picked up last time around in the States

Carbon Leaf too American?!?

I thought I had the perfect outro there
The main idea (which I sort of abandonned) was to start it energietic, have a mixed middle piece and a mellow finish with the last 4/5 songs specially lined up. Sugar Mountain was put after Powder Blue cause of the crashing glass.
I agree, Neil Young is a genious, and no, I don't listen a lot to him, cause he's made some not so good stuff and my Mp3 player doesn't have room. Can't go wrong with him.
I would love it if you sent me a copy of your mix, I want as many as possible
Songs that were on my cut-list: Elbow - Ribcage, Elbow - Mirrorball, St. Vincent - The Strangers, Elbow - Red (there would still only be 3 Elbow songs total), Bon Iver - Bloodbank, Glasvegas - Fuck You, It's Over (

just sounded a little crude for a mixtape), Dinosaur Jr. - Pieces, Neil Young - Like A Hurricane, Madrugada - On Your Side (Majesty was a late addition), Madrugada - The Lost Gospel, Neil Young - The Needle And The Damage Done, Regina Spektor - Dance Anthem Of The 80's.
Finally

pleased to meet you like this, my name is William, I'm about 7 years younger than you

and live life in technicolor (means I'm generally relaxed) and love music.

Can't wait til the next exchange, will have more time then.
Cheerio
