So, Charlie Brown debuted at the UK top 40 on 30 :)After the Brits, this is the result of sales in the UK:
MX at 6 in the Albums Chart (last week it was 11)
Paradise at 23 in the Singles Chart (last week it was 24)
Charlie Brown at 30 in the Singles Chart (last week it was 115)
"Coldplay’s pyrotechnic-filled show opener Charlie Brown, shoots up 85 places to Number 30, also with an uplift of 387%. Accompanying album Mylo Xyloto benefits from a 36% increase in sales since last week."

I think it charted regardless of not being a single, cause you know, no announcement or anything. Unless someone in the Coldplay crew in charge of announcing that kind of stuff just completely forgot to tell us. :whip:

Yeah #38 this week, and all signs point to it being released on March 19th. Hopefully an official announcement from Coldplay comes out this week.
Also, in terms of Airplay:
01 02 Gotye feat Kimbra Somebody That I Used To Know
02 01 Emeli Sande Next To Me
03 03 Jessie J Domino
04 04 David Guetta feat Sia Titanium
05 08 Coldplay Charlie Brown
06 05 DJ Fresh feat Rita Ora Hot Right Now
07 06 Olly Murs Dance With Me Tonight
08 07 Kelly Clarkson Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)
09 09 Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers Alone Again
10 14 Flo Rida feat Sia Wild Ones
All the other songs on the Airplay list are in or near the top 10 in the singles chart. So, in a sense, good news for CB as when it is released officially (digitally) it will move up the charts.

CHART UPDATE (21/3) - Charlie Brown has fallen to #25.
And Paradise is nowhere to be found (no pun intended).
SpaceDave
23-03-2012, 12:31 PM
Lol at paradise nowhere to be found.
Anyway it's occurred to me that the reason Coldplay singles have such a hard time charting to the number 1 and 2 spots is that their albums are so good that after single #2 people buy the albums and feel no need to buy the singles later. It explains why the earlier singles (e.g. Viva, Paradise) fare better on the charts than the later ones (LiJ, CB?). Compare that with chart-rippers with fantastic singles but lacklustre albums. I'm no expert so I'm open to correction, but maybe Coldplay is paying a price here for being so good?
That being said, go Charlie Brown go!
The Red Army
25-03-2012, 04:26 PM
Charlie Brown drops to 26 (was 22 last week)
Paradise stays at 37
MX jumps to 7 on the albums chart (was 12 last week)
These stats are for the UK Singles and Albums Chart.
CB dropped (maybe it wasn't released after all on the 19th?)
But, MX rises so good news.
Side note:
The same website that initially put up the release date of March 19th in the UK, now has since changed the release date of CB to "coming soon".
Maybe they are delaying the release, or maybe that website is shady. Regardless, its kind of a mess.

Why they aren't capitalizing on such airplay by releasing the single like right now is beyond me. It would shoot into the top 10 immediately.
Maybe it is a single thought, they promoted it a couple of times with a discount, it just wasn't released with fanfare.
Maybe they're doing the best they can but people just aren't buying the song.

Hmm, your possibly right.
I just don't see how they could release it without any announcement either from their twitter or via their news bulletin on their website.
Some other sites (albeit, not sure how 'trustworthy' they are) said it was to be released mid-march and that turned out to be confusing as well.
If that really is the release date (Feb. 3rd), then its kind of disappointing. I feel like CB deserves a little bit more than that.

Well I think we're not the only ones confused, and since it's not doing well when it should be (not saying that only because I love the song, I just see the potential here, I mean, you just have to listen to it once to know it should be a hit, it's like a summer anthem kind of song, you know ?), someone, as you said, must have added it to make it clear.
Also, there could be 2 explanations: 1. They thought they made it clear when they released the video. (though they didn't say anything at the time about the release so...)
2. They hadn't decide yet, and they finally decided on what to do with CB/PoC not long ago. That rumor about PoC released in June seems even more accurate now, there would be a 4 months gap between the 2.
Anyway I'm VERY VERY MAD because it should have been the summer anthem, or a huge hit or whatever it is called. It's like it's made for that. But it probably won't.
I don't understand this decision.
And now I can't concentrate on very important homework, which makes me even more mad!!!:veryangry:

Chill. :snobby: It's not about the promotion. Adele was absent for almost a year and her albums and singles have been insanely successful.
To be honest, when I first heard the song (at Letterman) I was utterly unimpressed for some reason. Later on I fell in love with it. Combine that with a mediocre video and there's your answer.

CHART UPDATE (28/3) - CB remains at #26. Paradise goes down 1 to #38.
The third singles from Coldplay albums don't tend to be promoted much, probably because EMI/Parlophone believe that everyone who wanted to hear the single would have got the album already.
Paradise did so well because it was the song that was promoting the album. If CB took its place, I'm sure it would have been a big hit.
On the plus side, at least CB is doing better in the charts than Lost/Lovers in Japan did back in the Viva era :D

Charlie Brown at #33 (last week #26)
Paradise at #40 (last week #37)
MX at #7 (last week also at #7)
This is for UK Singles and Albums Chart.
So, CB falls probably due to a lack of any promo (and/or an official release?). Paradise falls, but that's fine (it did its job).
They've been discounting and promoting the album, so the album sales are stable. That's good.

I think it's because of Now! 81 releasing in the UK this week. The album has the radio edit of Paradise on it. Perhaps people buying this version (not sure why, you can get the full version from the album for the same price) counted towards the total sales for Paradise?

Right now on the US iTunes top 100 songs, there is no CB or PoC to be found, but Paradise stands its ground at number 54. MX on the top 100 albums is at number 45. Come on! Just release some sort of new physical copy already! I don't care what it is!

For this week's UK Charts:
Charlie Brown is out
Paradise is #39 (just about out/at the borderline) (was #30 last week)
MX is #17 (13 last week)
It's now time for PoC.

Yeah, looks like CB's time is done (for now).
Something I noticed, it's minor, but at least a positive for CB.
On the US Billboard Charts for Alternative Songs this week, CB is #15. That's its peak charting position.

paradise has been viewed about 100 millions on ytube but CB is just ten times less, they could have really made it another para but...:whatever:

CB is back on the Top 100 chart this week maybe PoC helped, or the ESPN advert, or The Voice version, I don't know, but it's back at 73!

POC has pushed CB up again, now it's 62(para-para is 58), I guess it will fall until next week though.
