I could be completely wrong but I think Dashboard Confessional is just the one guy, and the rest is his back up band. I've heard some of his stuff and it's pretty good. People consider it "Emo". You should give it a listen, and he just put out a MTV Unplugged Album a few weeks ago.
And if you want to listen to a song, download Screaming Infidelities.

I really really think that Dashboard is pretty bad. I'd recommend someone like Weezer instead

really? whats bad about him?
i have heard of weezer-they are pretty cool are they simliar to this confessional dashboard guy?
Sykie
08-03-2003, 06:14 PM
Well Dashboard is supposed to be 'emo' the really emotional stuff, and to me it sounds just whiney. Some people think that Weezer is in the 'emo' category, so I just think of Weezer then as a superior emo band. I saw Dashboard live and they bored me.

08-03-2003, 08:01 PM
I'm not much of an emo fan. I mean, I just can't get anything out of listening to it. But I LOVE Dashboard. The MTV Unplugged album is amazing..I wouldn't even call them 'emo.' They just sound so much better. A lot of people call them whinney. But I don't hear it. I could be very wrong though. :?

i have no idea what happened, but I heard Dashboard Confessional around two and a half years ago, before he was famous and I bought "Swiss Army Romance" and loved it. I listened to it all the way through, all the time. Then all of the sudden, his voice started to bother me a lot, and I realized that all his songs are in the same key, same tuning, no diversity. Now it bothers me to listen to him. I do, however, respect him as a lyricist still, and the fact that he's got his own vibe, it just doesnt appeal to me anymore for some reason.

07-12-2003, 01:06 AM
I can see where you're coming from, that's why I don't listen to the CD the whole way through. They'll be times when I'll just want to hear certain song[s].
I agree though with the fact that his lyrics are written quite well.
I still love em' though!

I can say im a big fan of them...I actually met Chris C. when he was just him(Swiss Army Romance) opening for other acts(Saves The Day). After he opened he was in the back just talking to some people. It was really cool, had him sign my wallet and ticket stub. I was a HUGE fan back then and it was cool cause no one really knew of him. I don't think a lot of people realized it was just a side project for him at first while he was playing in a band called Further Seems Forever. And than BAM he blew up. I respect his lyrics and also the way he plays(configuration of chords and tuning). And we the other band members joined, I think they are a great well formed emotionally driven band :D In other words, I like them too!

I don't like Dashboard, but I also think to close the door on all emo music is probably a bad idea (just as it's probably a bad idea to close the door entirely on any form of music).
I listened to the album with "Screaming Infidelities" on it and it just wasn't my thing, but I can defenitely see how people like them.

I do like DC also. A lot of people seem to forget that Chris C. started DC as a side project while he was in "Further Seems Forever". He did it for fun and never intended it to "blow up", and people still loved it(not mainstream at this point) Sold enough CD's to start tourin and his concerts solo were amazing. I was at two of his shows, one where he opened for a couple other bands when he first started touring solo(i think one was Saves The Day)...and I met him in the back after he played and talked with him for a bit, extremely nice guy. Then it got mainstream and more people would bash it cause it was "labeled" emo right off the bat. I guess I just don't understand how people can just HATE a general music group without hearing much of the music but the mainstream stuff  ? Sorry it's just weird to me. But, in other words I like DC and think they are all talented and have fun in what they do :D

The lyrics are like reading a 7th grader's livejournal, the music in general is way too sappy and whiny for my taste, and Chris Carrabba has this "I try way too hard to look cool" thing down to a T.

Christopher Carrabba on Contributing to "Spider-Man 2"
From the World Premiere of "Spider-Man 2"
INTERVIEW WITH CHRISTOPHER CARRABBA OF DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL:
You wrote a song specifically for the soundtrack of "Spider-Man 2?"
I did, I did.
How did you get inspired?
Well, I watched the movie and it was inspiring. (Laughing) It was as simple as that. It’s such a good movie, it’s such a good story, and the conflict that the characters are all going through is kind of universal. I mean, we’re not superheroes but we all live challenging lives somehow or another. And coming of age and also falling in love and proving yourself to yourself – and proving yourself to someone you love – those are the themes that I took from the movie, as far as the song goes. I couldn’t do an action song so… Plus, it wasn’t hard for me to be inspired. Kirsten Dunst is just gorgeous. I’m inspired by her, she’s a great actress. The tension and the love story between the two were easy to believe.
How do you feel about being on the soundtrack of a blockbuster movie such as this?
Very humble. It’s kind of a dream come true. The fact that anybody thought about us [made this] a unique experience in my life.
The soundtrack to the first “Spider-Man” was huge. Do you expect this one to be as big?
I think it’s a different kind of soundtrack. I think it will probably be pretty big, because it’s got Spider-Man on the cover (laughing). But it’s definitely a different thing, so who’s to know? You can’t expect that kind of thing to happen twice. It was such a good song and such a huge thing, and it was a moment in time. Who knows if we’ll get that. But I did get Spider-Man in my video, so that much I got. It doesn’t have to sell a gazillion records.
How did you get hooked up with the soundtrack in the first place?
I happen to have a fan in the company that started championing me to the director and the producers, and soon they all were asking. And it was great.
And the rest is history.
Yeah, and it was a really great pinnacle of history in my personal history (laughing).

I don't really like them. It is just something about his voice. Too whinerish for my taste. Plus the songs are really, really similar in lyrics and sound. Granted many bands songs sound the same. I'll get my fix on lyricism elsewhere.

you missed one thing, they are NOT emo. not even close, they are as emo as coldplay....
to tell you the truth there is no real emo around today, the closest thing is modern emo and that would be jimmy eat world and stuff like that.
but whats with laguna beach and dashboard? ive heard their song on alot of the episodes.. i like it.

Dashboard Confessional release new album
Dashboard Confessional are set to release their new album 'The Shade Of Poison Trees' on October 8.
The record is Chris Carrabba's fifth album, and the follow up to 2006's 'Dusk And Summer'.
The LP was recorded with Pearl Jam conhort Don Gilmore.
According to a statement it is "a return to his signature acoustic sound that (frontman) Chris Carrabba first developed on early Dashboard Confessional albums like 2000's 'The Swiss Army Romance' and 2001's 'The Place You Have Come To Fear the Most'".
Carraba is set to play a headlining UK tour, his first for five years in the autumn. Dates are expected to be announced soon.

I was feeling a bit ashamed about bumping this thread, so we're in the same boat.

Most guys feel that way, me included. Sometimes chris' lyrics are too whiney, but he is capable of writing some fantastic songs.

I like the "Alter the Ending" album.
Although at the moment I'm liking more the acoustic versions on the 2nd disc
