I never thought this would happen again, but Coldplay have ran into the same ditch they ran into roughly over 3 years ago. A paradox, one I like to call the "Lost/Lovers paradox".
We have 2 singles in the works yet to be released in public. The more successful charting song, Princess Of China (Lost!) and the heavily promoted, fan favourite, Charlie Brown (Lovers in Japan). Trust me, we are in the EXACT same position now from November 2008.
What would you do if you were Coldplay at this moment?
A- Go for Princess Of China and release it as early as possible, overshadowing Charlie Brown in the process? (just like 3 years ago)
OR
B- Hold off the release of Princess Of China, potentially sacrificing sales in the process?

^^ok. A or B.
^Nope, I can recall everyone was definitely praising Lovers more than Lost.

Lovers>Lost
But seriously. They should just release PoC after the Grammy's make serious $$$ off of that, then around April/May release Charlie Brown, and make it this year "summer song"

They should debut PoC during the Grammys and then release it as a single. CB can come later or not at all.
I'm still against the idea of CB being released as a single as I know it'll get overplayed and it'll end up like VLV. But whatever.

Release every song on the album as singles, make videos for all of them, make 1 trillion billion dollars from sales. Go play private gigs at every Coldplayers' house. Release a new album next month.
Job done.

No one will buy the album if every song was a single. ;)

This is so not exactly the same as Lost!/Lovers
For me , Lost! In the UK underperformed mainly cause it was way too different from what "Coldplay" was generally known atm. People were turned off by it and that's why it kinda flopped. By the time Lovers was released , the hype had already gone .
Lost! In the US .. They tried to make it more to the US market with Jay .. but was really different from what was hot atm in the USA.
IMO .. POC will completely smash. it's smashing already , top 100 on itunes without being released as a single .. Back in the Billboard hot 100 again .. . Rihanna's apparence in it IMO will make it a guaranteed smash in both sides of the Atlantic. It will give coldplay's biggest airplay numbers in the US ... And Rihanna is Absolutely HUGE in the UK too ..
For me , they can release POC WW as a 3rd single .. and then with the momentum going and hype created release CB
Or they can release CB in the UK and POC in the USA. If CB is realased in the USA now , it will flop and will even be overshadowed by POC
