..where would you place it on the tracklist?

I've heard some people say at the end, but is there any other place you think it would fit in?

I would put it before Up In Flames... maybe

I would put it first. Seriously, try it.

As the last song for sure. But UWTB is a great ending too.

It's a shame that this song is not on MX. Maybe the intro is the unique point i don't like, but the whole song is acceptable, and it deserved to be on the new album.

In place of POC for me.... POC as the b-side on ETIAW

I like PoC, but you're right!

I agree with MasoKnight, and this was something I was thinking even before the leak. Seriously, I really works putting it even before Mylo Xyloto.

Try it. Listen to Moving to Mars, and pay attention to the sounds right before it fades, after Chris has stoppped singing. I think these sounds could just continue for some seconds more and then blend into a burst of Mylo Xyloto. That would be awesome!

Also, if you listen to the lyrics, although they are kind of meant to be the "bad ending" of Mylo Xyloto, I think they would just as well fit as a prelude to everything, kind of like a prologue to a fiction book.

Can I get a link to this song in high quality mp3? I only have the YouTube version and I would like to place it in my track listing....thanks.

End or beginning is fine in my opinion. Kind of fits well as a transition if you wanna hear the album on repeat

I wish to remove Paradise, Princess Of China and MMIX to put Moving To Mars into the final tracklist plus the song Tomorrow, that was discarded but a deeptroath source said it's wonderful...

xylobryte
18-10-2011, 02:18 PM
I'd put it after Major Minus, as I grew used to it placed there on the ETIAW EP.

Maybe after Paradise too, I had Coldplay on shuffle a few days ago and those two went nicely after each other, don't know how it sounds going into Charlie Brown though. Yet.

I would replace MM with MTM i think then the album would be perfect :)

I'd kick that fucking Hopeful transmission out, put dlbyh on spot number 12, moving to mars on 13 and up with the birds on 14. OR vice versa, the last two.

moving to mars just HAD to be on the album. I can't forgive them for not putting it there. and to think that such a boring song like Up in Flames is there instead... :(

Alienbob

In between Up in Flames and A Hopeful Transmission.

Works thematically, works sound wise, Moving to Mars "closes" the last part of the album before the finale, where everything is resolved.

MTM would be an obvious standout on the album, it would reflect the wasted potential sprawled over fourteen songs. Better left a b-side, a lost treasure and a legend for those genuinely interested.

I would actually leave it in the same place as the EP - after MM.

jemonn

I've put it after Up In Flames in my playlist to see how well it flows :)

Right, so after UIF didn't sound good, but before UIF, it's sounding good!
Goes from Princess Of China's big pop sound to a darker sound, which fits in with what people have said about the storyline of the album, where PoC represents a fight between the lovers, MtM is dark enough to fit in with the aftermath of the fight, leading onto UIF where he realizes what he's done, which then goes onto the last part of the album which is the happy ending. It fits almost perfectly here, in my opinion.

Hm well I disagree because, there are , honestly, some songs that do not belong in the album. Personally, I really don't see the point in A hopeful transmission.

Absolutely no sense at all. Some of you should try to understand the album. Then you would not want to see MTM on it. It was the right and only possible decision to let that song off.

That track list makes no fucking sense contextually at all. Really, really messy.

You do understand Mylo Xyloto is a story, right?

In terms of story placement, the lyric "we are meeting for the first time" more or less cements it as a potential album opener. It also sets the scene, in a sense: the setting becomes somewhere foreign, perhaps Mars, jarring us into our plot in the "schizophrenic" way that Chris Martin described.

I've actually edited the album so that Moving to Mars is the opener. It's really cool, and it works.

I LOVE Moving to Mars, but I kinda can't see it fit with the rest of the songs. The mood of the song just does not go along with the rest of MX in my opinion, even though the lyrics do.

I love MTM and I wish it was on the album but I'm not really sure it fits (which is probably why they gave it to us early).

It's not a good album opener. At all. It's a decent song, but I think they were right to keep it off MX.

I think it could either work as an epilogue after UWTB or... the start of a new chapter in the story, anda new album - lol, that would be a trip if they ever thought of doing that.

Glad it wasn't on the album. Don't think it would have fit. Would have slowed the momentum down in my opinion. (Kinda why I don't like Up In Flames).

Happy that it stayed as a b-side.

Harondor

The most important is that MTM has been released anyway.
It's a great B-side, and I hope we'll get more new songs for this era

In place of POC for me....

Ditto here! In fact it is in place of POC on the album tracklist on my MP3 player:D I personally find POC unlistenable... it doesn't sound like Coldplay, IMO, and I'm not a fan of heavily distorted synth warbling. Now I've got to find a B-side to take the place of Paradise, and I'll have a solid MX album...

THIS

I always play MTM after CB now. With they way CB winds down at the end, push play after the very last note of CB. The transition is absolutely gorgeous.

I chopped off the ending of UFO that is the beginning of princess and stuck moving to mars in between those two. then at the end of moving to mars while that weird noise plays i slowly fade in the beginning of princess (the part right before the track switches from UFO to PoC.) It fits awesome there

Moving to mars instead of UFO and UFO as b-side or as hidden track after UWTB

This.

I've always felt that MX was just a *littly* too short compared to VLV (which I think is the perfect length) because VLV actually has 12 full songs (add ROL and CSC, not to mention the Escapist) while MX only has 11.

MrAubreyODay

Definitely after UFO and before Princess of China.

MosesTheMarshmallow
10-11-2011, 12:46 AM
Hmmm there's a long 20 seconds of synth noise after the song "ends" and I don't want to use iTunes to cut it off coz then it sounds chopped. :/

solarboy
10-11-2011, 03:37 PM
I added a few seconds of silence here and there, but this is what I've done:

Mylo Xyloto
Hurts Like Heaven
Paradise
Charlie Brown
Us Against The World
Moving To Mars
M.M.I.X.
Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
Major Minus
U.F.O.
Princess Of China
Christmas Lights
Up In Flames
A Hopeful Transmission
Don't Let It Break Your Heart
Up With The Birds

Adding Moving To Mars where I have gives a nice contemplative four minutes between Us Against The World and Every Teardrop. I enjoy it anyway. I've also added Christmas Lights just because I like it and it was obviously recorded in the same sessions as the album proper. It feels, to me, like a small piece of a larger picture painted by Coldplay. But whatever makes you happy on your own playlists is what I say!

I put it between Major Minus and U.F.O.
Cos on the EP it goes - ETIAW, MM, MTM.
And Mars should be next to the UFO. :D

Also, when I heard it for the first time, it reminded me of WALL-E.
I wonder if they were inspired by that movie...

ive got it between Major Minus & UFO...its a nice transition between the heavy MM and the chill UFO.

it also works in regards to the full narrative of the story, as the couple is heading for trouble (first identified in UFO), so Moving To Mars could somewhat first display that trouble

CJWG
11-07-2012, 04:58 PM
it does fit the flow of the album well, and should be aware between ETIAF and A Hopeful Transmission by dropping one of the other tracks (most prbably UFO). Hold on a minute, UFO/Moving to Mars thats weird..... Waynes World

I was listening to this song for the first time in ages yesterday. What on earth possessed them to leave the track off? And yet we had to be served with real bores in the form of Up In Flames, UFO and Us Against The World? MX - never warmed to it from the day I bought it. There are some fantastic songs on it but boy did they bottle the tracklisting. Must do better!
