Out of all the songs we got at the festivals this was the only one I skipped. Hearing it on the album absolutely astonished me, it is so so so beautiful, and atmospheric. It's one of my faves for sure. Does anyone feel the same? I feel like most people loved the live version too.
If anyone shares my opinion, what is it about the studio version that makes it (IMO) so much better?
For me it's that intro, oh and the vocals sound great.

PS. This is my first thread ever. I'm giving up my thread starting virginity to UATW, as a metaphoric apology for not liking it at the festivals :P

It made me cry. The only other Coldplay song to do that was The Scientist.

I love it, but it is faster than the live version. Maybe a bit too fast.

Is there any difference in instruments or so besides the tempo maybe?

Reminds me of a bit of When The Ships Come In by Bob Dylan from The Times They Are a-Chaning 64' - "Dylan would say: "I can't really say that adults don't understand young people any more than you can say big fishes don't understand little fishes. I didn't mean "The Times They Are a-Changin'" as a statement... It's a feeling."[4]" from Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Times_They_Are_a-Changin'
Personally, I prefer this style, not so much distraction but a flow of telling in half-reflection.

A great song! Reminds me of some Parachute-songs actually, with some acoustic guitars :-)

Amazing song, and a special treat for those who missed the old sound.

You skipped the live version???
Is that towards my Post? I didn't check out Live version - but I think this song is the one which has more linkage to Co.'s old style - which I love, a bit of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, pure and peaceful Country/Folk when the emotional haze has gone rest, like sunset. But to fit it into the context, it has a synth intro/bridge.
But, why I always feel the sound effect is not good [I wonder the recording room's space]. The guitar is a bit too vague and set behind.

I was one of the few people that didn't like the live version of UAtW at all :P
But the studio version blows it out of the water. It's amazing, especially the intro :wacky: Plus, it reminds me a bit of See You Soon

In full agreement, the recorded version is amazing... (the live one is too imo!).
It has elements of songs from Parachutes, but with something sounding more recent in it too... the perfect blend!

YES YES YES YES absolutely...
It sounded so boring on the festivals... and I didn't listen to the whole thing.
Now I listened to it and it's... fantastic. I love it so much.

blown away is a good description - I totally agree. I just heard it for the first time and I just had to close my eyes and take it all in. It's beautiful. I have been enjoying the newer sounds of Coldplay, but YES it was great to hear something of the older style. Lovely, lovely song. I had to listen to it again and again.

I thought exactly the same thing. It's now one of my faves.

It made me cry
THIS!!! I was having a crappy day and then I decided to blast the whole album on my radio for the first time and when this song started playing I simply couldn't hold down the tears. It evokes so much emotion.

It was my favourite when they were playing it live. I was in live with this song. The studio version is as good as the live version. Which is amazing, because we usually go ''EWWWWW'' when we hear the live version before the studio one.
Love, love, loooove this song. The best of the album. So simple, so touching, so beautiful.

This is hands down, my favourite song on the album. There's something very emotional and beautiful about the song. It sounds like old school Coldplay but with more maturity. It's the stand-out track on the album for me.

I love the intro and the cleaned up version of the studio. I also love how the bass kicks in some of the live versions instead of the piano/organ. Overall, I prefer the studio version though, great song.

I have to admit hearing the song live kinda ruined the magic of this song on the album. It fell flat for me when I listened to the studio version.
Or maybe because the live version was much better than the studio version. :P
