Coldplay to play University of East Anglia on 27 October
http://www.coldplay.com/images/news_line.png
Good morning. It's just been announced that Coldplay will play a special show in Norwich on Thursday, 27 October, as part of BBC Radio 1's Student Tour. The gig will take place at the city's University of East Anglia venue, and will broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 (listen live (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/bbc_radio_one) on your radio in the UK, or online anywhere in the world).
Tickets, priced £20, will go on sale at 9am on Saturday, 15 October from the Box Office, Union House, University of East Anglia, Norwich NR4 7NJ.
Tickets are available to all members of the general public. They can only be purchased in person and please be aware we expect high demand for these tickets so a queue is expected to form early.
Tickets are limited to two per customer. To avoid these tickets being resold at vastly inflated prices entry for these shows will be via wristband only. On 15 October a ticket voucher will be issued clearly showing your name and address. On the show day 27 October wristbanding will open at midday at the venue.
Ticket holders will need to return with their ticket voucher, photo ID matching the name on the ticket voucher and if they have purchased two tickets their guest must be in attendance with them. Each customer will be wristbanded and can then return to the venue in the evening for the concert. Doors open at 6.30 pm and the show starts promptly at 7.00 p.m. so please arrive early. Please note that any wristbands that have been obviously tampered with will be refused entry.

i guess the idea is that the tour is for students, and they want to try and make sure the students get a chance at the tickets. hence selling them in person at the uni

Ooooooh. I'm in Norwich on Saturday to watch my beloved NCFC vs Swansea, so I could go and queue before being there ready for the match later in the afternoon.
Help me out here Coldplayers. We all know how crazy we are but how early would you say to get in the queue? To guarantee tickets?
I'm thinking the night before should suffice. Just hope it's not too cold! :(

In other news, I'm looking at airfare and debating whether or not to bankrupt myself on flights, because I COULD stay for free any number of places, as long as someone got me a ticket at the uni this Saturday :P

Also, Coldplay played UEA back in January of 2000 and there's still a poster of them hanging in the paper shop on campus...
I'm seriously scheming to go, even though it would be insane. It all hinges on someone camping out at the LCR and guaranteeing that their second ticket goes to me :P. Any takers?!

I support what the UEA guy said--I was a student there, and I would see diehard fans queueing for certain bands sometimes, but this is COLDPLAY...I think all of East Anglia is going to come out for this to try and get tickets because no one this big comes to East Anglia. This is a huge deal for the town and the uni, so expect masses of people. There's also a Norwich FC match that Saturday, I think, so even more people will be in town, including the night before, than usual, who might have eyes on going to see Coldplay.
Jojo, you're my hero

STATEMENT: Re: the sale of Coldplay tickets
Coldplay, one of the BIGGEST bands on the Planet are coming to the Union of UEA Student's LCR for an intimate concert in conjunction with Radio 1. Not only will they be playing LIVE, but the concert will be being broadcast simultaneously on National Radio from 7pm that evening
Tickets go on sale from 9am on Saturday 15th October.
Thursday afternoon people began queuing outside Union House in the hope of securing their tickets. At approx. 1pm this afternoon (Friday) the Union decided to number the queue because we were aware that the number of people in the queue was more than the number of tickets available. This decision was taken to prevent those beyond a certain point in the queue having to wait until 11pm tonight to find out that they were not going to be successful in their attempts to obtain tickets.
Each person was issued a raffle ticket denoting their place in the queue – this raffle ticket is by no means a guarantee of a ticket to see Coldplay.
The raffle ticket ensures that people can come back at 11pm tonight to pre-register for a ticket (they MUST do this). They will need ID to register. To make the waiting process more comfortable, the Union’s Hive Coffee Bar will remain open overnight and facilities will be available for patrons to use.
Those people who have pre-registered on Friday night will then be admitted to the Box Office on Saturday morning in an organised manner at which point they will be able to purchase their ticket which will exchange for a wristband on the day of the event.
Whilst we acknowledge that a lot of people will be disappointed we have tried our best to ensure that the tickets are allocated as fairly as is possible.

Finally with their hands on precious Coldplay tickets, fans of the band after queuing for hours. Phil Deadman with tickets number 001 and 002 .
Coldplay fans in Norwich rewarded for their loyalty
Coldplay fans who patiently waited for hours for tickets to the band’s intimate Norwich gig have been rewarded for their efforts.
Hundreds of dedicated fans started to queue for tickets for the concert on October 27 more than 24 hours before they went on sale.
And while most headed home after being allocated a raffle ticket, guaranteeing them their place in the line, scores stayed overnight and enjoyed pizzas supplied by the band.
Tickets then went on sale at 9am this morning.
Phil Deadman, 42, from Thorpe, was the first to queue for the sought-after tickets, claiming his spot at 12.30pm on Thursday.
He said he was “really pleased” when he got his two tickets.
Mr Deadman, who is self-employed, said: “It’s fantastic, I didn’t believe it. When I first drove down there I thought I would be at the end of the queue but I wasn’t, I started the queue.
“I stayed overnight Thursday and Friday, one night in the cold and then the other inside at the union. There were a lot of people there last night and there was a really good atmosphere. I’m now going home for a shower and some sleep.”
The gig, which will be held at the University of East Anglia, is part of the second year of BBC Radio 1’s student tour, which will see DJs Fearne Cotton and Zane Lowe broadcasting their weekday shows between Monday October 24 and Thursday, October 27, live from four university towns and cities - Aberdeen, Leicester, Norwich and Hatfield.
About 1,200 tickets were available.

Last rant about this (for awhile): if this really is to be a "student tour" giving students the chance to see great acts for a good price at convenient locations, I feel like it shouldn't be open to the general public. I guess this is an extreme case, as I doubt 3000 people showed up for Kasabian at Leicester or whatever in the same way, but if this is really to be a "student tour," you would think they'd require a valid NUS ID from any uni to buy tickets (though guests could be non-students). That might have cut down on SOME of the craziness, anyway, but I'm just bitter :P

Sorry but don't agree with you about just 4 students. I was a lucky person who queued 4 about 20 hours and got a ticket. But having spoken to a lot of students. Some were just there cause they thought it would be fun to queue. Group of about 10 next to me in the queue all night. Don't think I even heard them mention cold play all night. More interested in getting drunk. These tickets could have gone to real fans who missed out. :D

That's a good point, I'm just surprised the drunkards put that much effort in...I don't get how someone who doesn't love a band would camp out for like two days for tickets to something! :freak:. That's why I never went to many shows at the LCR when I was a student there--it was just chock-filled with people who were there to be drunk and obnoxious, few people for the music.
Still--I do think if it's marketed as a student tour, it makes sense to have more restrictions. But good on you for getting tickets! For the first time, I'm sad I graduated

Final allocation of Norwich tickets on sale now
20 October 2011 1:10 pm
Coldplay.com readers can buy the final tickets for the UEA show online
http://coldplay.com/images/news_line.png
Good afternoon. As previously announced, Coldplay will play a special show at Norwich's University of East Anglia on Thursday, 27 October, as part of BBC Radio 1's Student Tour.
Tickets, priced £20, were sold at the UEA box office to personal callers on Saturday, 15 October (after fans queued over night).
However, a final 100 tickets to the show have just been released for sale - and Coldplay.com readers can buy them online from here (http://www.gigsandtours.com/gat/event.asp?n|showname=coming&showcode=594260&e|promoter=372&resultsperpage=50&orderby=date,time&filler1=gigsandtours&filler2=594260) now. (We wanted them to go to you folks - but you'd best be quick if you want some.)
If you can't make it, the gig will also broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 (listen live (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/bbc_radio_one) on your radio in the UK, or online anywhere in the world).
Tickets are limited to two per customer. To avoid these tickets being resold at inflated prices entry for these shows will be via wristband only. On the show day, 27 October, wristbanding will open at midday at the venue. Ticket buyers will need to go to the box office with their ticket receipt, photo ID matching the name on the receipt and if they have purchased two tickets their guest must be in attendance with them. Each customer will be wristbanded and can then return to the venue in the evening for the concert. Doors open at 6.30 pm and the show starts promptly at 7.00 p.m. so please arrive early. Please note that any wristbands that have been obviously tampered with will be refused entry.

I want to punch someone. How awfully was all of this organized? We went to Norwich with Craig and Roos last friday and got told that ALL the tickets were gone and that there was no way at all to get them anymore by so damn many people. There were lots of people who'd travelled there to get the tickets and got told the same thing, that was all of the tickets that were going on sale and now this? And it's not just that I didn't get a ticket now either, I would've been fucking pissed anyway cos this in my opinion is just awful. Aaaaa really really really hate how this was organized. Fucking hate the wooorld right now.
(sorry for this post, I seem like an asshole now. and yeah sure I'm happy for people who got tickets but I just HATE this and this really put me off. Feel like selling my O2 ticket just out of principle now)

I've actually never gone to a gig there just because good acts usually sell out so fast and everyone there's usually more interested in getting wasted, but...this was a big reason why I decided that if it was possible, I had to go.
Don't completely understand how 1500 fit in there though.

It really is tiny, it's not even just the photos that make it look that way. I've been in there millions of times when there aren't gigs or parties happening, and it's just not a very big space. Pretty much anywhere is good, especially if you're in the front of the "raised floor" section at the top of those stairs. I'm going to be aiming to get right at the barrier, of course, but it's really great to be anywhere in there as long as you're not behind a pole.

25-10-2011, 02:25 AM
I did that charity thing but not getting too hopeful, I imagine quuuuite few people took part and I'm so damn unlucky when it comes to Coldplay :( It's also annoying that you won't know until wednesday evening. Chels, when are you gonna go queue?
ApproximatelyInfinite
25-10-2011, 03:09 AM
Mich and Anna might go very early if there's word that there's a lot of people, but we're all getting to Norwich early Wednesday evening. I'm going to crash immediately to sleep off jetlag and then get up and go to UEA (probably meeting Mich and Anna there, who might go early in case it's a madhouse) at like 10:30 AM to make sure we're all there in time for wristbands at noon. I just really want to have slept, you know :P
I don't know whether people are going to queue straight after getting wristbands, but at least some probably will, so I figure right after that we'll just queue for the doors. I'm not even sure where they'll let us do that: the main LCR doors are right where all the tour buses are going to be and where they're going to be loading in gear, so I assume they're not going to want us all sitting there...I wish I'd done at least one other gig there so I knew how this worked better
I have absolutely everything crossed for you winning. I still feel terrible about all of this, about you and everyone else that wanted so badly to go.
johkujii
25-10-2011, 10:14 AM
Ahhh this is so depressing! You guys are gonna have so much fun though! I wish I could queue, I love doing that with CPing people (instead I'll be doing it alone 3 times this week, oh joy). Slightly tempted to just come along to Norwich and trying to get lucky but that woul probably be a bit insane..Plus I'd get million times more depressed when I'd just be left outside the doors after queueing and all

I just sent the elephant pic link to Anchorman and asked him to give them a shout out, maybe he'll post it hehe
But he'll probably spot them on a walkabout.
