Mr. Corbijn, the Dutch filmmaker and photographer, will direct the live Web broadcast of a concert performance by Coldplay, the British rock quartet, at the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid. The Webcast is the latest entry in the American Express Unstaged series, which has previously paired Terry Gilliam with Arcade Fire; David Lynch with Duran Duran; and Todd Haynes with My Morning Jacket. The Coldplay concert will be streamed live starting at 4 p.m. Eastern time on Oct. 26 at youtube.com/coldplayVEVO, and is presented in partnership with the video Web sites YouTube and VEVO. The companies were expected to announce the event on Thursday.

The concert, to promote Coldplay’s new album “Mylo Xyloto,” will put Mr. Corbijn in charge of 12 cameras that will be situated around Las Ventas, a famous Spanish bullfighting arena that has previously hosted performances by AC/DC and Radiohead. In a telephone interview, Mr. Corbijn described a recent visit to the bullring (“My star sign is Taurus, so I was a little hesitant going in there”) and said it was a “fantastic place” for a rock concert.

“Usually when you play to 15 or 20,000 people, the arenas tend to be elongated, and this is round and it’s very high up, so there’s a wall of people around you.” Mr. Corbijn said, adding: “Spanish people tend to be very enthusiastic at concerts, and you get incredible energy from them. I would prefer it to Amsterdam.”

Though Mr. Corbijn is perhaps most closely associated with Depeche Mode, the moody electronic rock band for whom he directed videos like “Personal Jesus,” he has also directed videos for Coldplay’s songs “Viva La Vida” and “Talk,” and said he finds Coldplay to be “a very uplifting band.”

Then again, he said, “I have such a love of good music, that I find even melancholic music uplifting. Maybe I’m a rare breed.”

After the Coldplay concert (and perhaps a nice long nap), Mr. Corbijn says he is starting work on a film adaptation of “A Most Wanted Man,” the John Le Carré novel about a mysterious man’s arrival in post-9/11 Hamburg.

He might also cross paths with the Coldplay front man Chris Martin at a gym they both frequent, although, Mr. Corbijn said, “This makes it sound like I go to the gym every day. There was a period that I would at least go once a week. But not currently.”

NEW YORK – Coldplay will livestream a concert from Madrid just as the band is releasing its fifth album.

The concert will be streamed live on YouTube from the Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas on Oct. 26 (4 p.m. ET). The concert, part of the ongoing online series "American Express Unstaged," takes place two days after Coldplay releases "Mylo Xyloto."

"Until we can come to a video as good as 'Single Ladies' by Beyonce, we have to rely on just the meat and vegetables of playing songs live," says Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, speaking from Cape Town, South Africa, where the band played Wednesday. "And this is just a nice way of doing it for a few more people at once."

"Unstaged" has frequently paired acts such as Arcade Fire, John Legend and My Morning Jacket with famous directors. The Coldplay concert will be directed by Anton Corbijn, the photographer, music-video maker and filmmaker of "Control" and "The American."

Corbijn is known for black-and-white and color-drained images in his work with Joy Division, Depeche Mode and R.E.M. He's directed several Coldplay videos but has one quibble with the planned concert.

"I don't particularly like lasers," says Corbijn, speaking from London. "At the moment, I've given into two songs."
Says Martin: "He'll win, of course. He's much better at the visual stuff."

Corbijn says it's challenging doing a concert like this without designing the whole show, and without the band being on tour ahead of it. Coldplay is currently playing a handful of festivals. But Las Ventas, a famed bullfighting ring, is a unique location.

"Even if you just look through one camera, it's going to look great," says Corbijn. "The arena is so beautiful."

It's the first international concert for "Unstaged," which is eager to benefit from a global audience. It will be streamed via music video service VEVO and also will be available through YouTube and VEVO apps on some smartphones and tablets.

Rich Lehrfeld, vice president of global sponsorship, access and experimental marketing for American Express, says the series has been a success and will continue. Lehrfeld declined to say how many people have watched the five previous "Unstaged" performances, but American Express says there have been more than 40 million streams altogether.

Coldplay is planning a wristband experiment for the Madrid crowd. Corbijn will shoot a pre-show segment of banter among himself and members of the band.
The concert comes as a welcome distraction for Martin.

"When we're in countries which don't speak English, it's harder for us to understand bad reviews," says Martin. "The week an album comes out is a tense week. So if you go and play in a place where the audiences are very loud and very passionate and even if they're swearing at you it sounds melodic — that's a nice way to distract you."

Martin and Corbijn, though, don't consider themselves bullfighting fans.

Says Corbijn: "I'm a Taurus myself, so I feel sorry for the bulls."

The companies were expected to announce the event on Thursday.

The concert, to promote Coldplay’s new album “Mylo Xyloto,” will put Mr. Corbijn in charge of 12 cameras that will be situated around Las Ventas, a famous Spanish bullfighting arena that has previously hosted performances by AC/DC and Radiohead. In a telephone interview, Mr. Corbijn described a recent visit to the bullring (“My star sign is Taurus, so I was a little hesitant going in there”) and said it was a “fantastic place” for a rock concert.

“Usually when you play to 15 or 20,000 people, the arenas tend to be elongated, and this is round and it’s very high up, so there’s a wall of people around you.” Mr. Corbijn said, adding: “Spanish people tend to be very enthusiastic at concerts, and you get incredible energy from them. I would prefer it to Amsterdam.”

Though Mr. Corbijn is perhaps most closely associated with Depeche Mode, the moody electronic rock band for whom he directed videos like “Personal Jesus,” he has also directed videos for Coldplay’s songs “Viva La Vida” and “Talk,” and said he finds Coldplay to be “a very uplifting band.”

Then again, he said, “I have such a love of good music, that I find even melancholic music uplifting. Maybe I’m a rare breed.”

After the Coldplay concert (and perhaps a nice long nap), Mr. Corbijn says he is starting work on a film adaptation of “A Most Wanted Man,” the John Le Carré novel about a mysterious man’s arrival in post-9/11 Hamburg.

He might also cross paths with the Coldplay front man Chris Martin at a gym they both frequent, although, Mr. Corbijn said, “This makes it sound like I go to the gym every day. There was a period that I would at least go once a week. But not currently.”

well , i am not the one who was lucky to get tickets because of the web-page mistake .. but ticket posted above says something around 41.60 euros. It was written earlier here that the prices range from 33 euros upto 72 euros .. someone even posted that there´re golden tickets available costing 155 euros.
I would say, there´s no confirmed information for prices so far .. so let´s just wait and we will find out 2moro .. and good luck !!!

Surprisingly it was working so I made it in 3 minutes to get my ticket. I know another coldplayer from my city who also bought a pair of them. My ticket is number 25 and his are 4&5 so they've must sold like 30 or so... A minute later i tried again cos' a friend asked me to buy him one but the link was already shut down...

I am not so sure because the four people who answer this faster will have to face each other at the programme. This is a map of the venue. Standing tickets are 50.50€ which is the PINK ZONE.

The ticketmaster web offers VIP tickets for 155€ which includes free drinks the whole night, pregig party and more...

I don't even want to click on the link to count as another "client" for the webmaster. Think people are even that stupid to announce something they don't even have... (El cuento de la lechera, said in spanish hahhahhahaha)

well, if all of us have standing tickets, then we can agree on time to meet in front of Plaza de Torros (maybe our spanish cold players help us define exact place ), so we can line-up and see the show together . and maybe some drinks afterwards to share the excitement :D dunno

Also, for those who bought tickets, what are the delivery options? Are they all hard (paper) tickets or do they give you the option to download a PDF and print them yourself?

I got on Ticketmaster.es right when they opened for the sale of these tickets, and the general admission (standing) tickets were already gone. I was also trying on Live Nation, and they showed general admission tickets, but wouldn't allow me to check out with them. Ended up buying the "Golden Tickets", as that was the only real option left. Everything but those and the seats behind the stage were gone immediately.

Just super happy to have any tickets, and they do will call so I don't have to worry about not getting them in time...

I bought on pre-sale from tickemaster (as it was the only provided link ) and I chose the option according to which i needed to pick up tickets by myself - it´s a paper ticket. actually it took quite a lot of time till all the tickets were gone, even standing ones were´t sold out immediately.

Quite good site to order tickets from, on general sale ,would have been Servicaixa as well , either via phone or online.
Ended up buying the "Golden Tickets"

Last tour, for the Barcelona concert, I got there around 15.00 more or less and got a pretty good spot. As for Wembley, I got there first hour in the morning and was almost in front row. So for this one... if you go with people who don't wanna be queueing for hours, I'd go there around noon maybe? Or 13.00? Now sure lol

I checked ServiCaixa a few mins after 10.00am this morning, and most tickets were already sold out.

I'm pretty sure that the golden ticket just gets you early entry and pre show food and drinks and seating in a designated section. I think it's just a way for the venue/promoters to make a lot more money. :lol:

I got VIP tickets at the UCLA show a few months ago, and it was pretty much the same, although we also got some cool swag too - I posted a pic of what we got in our VIP package for that show HERE (http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77994&page=64). I kind of doubt they will have free stuff like that here though, as I think AT&T probably paid for all of it as a promotional thing.

My friend and I are still going to try to get some general admission/standing tix for this show, just so we have the option to try to get in the mix of it on the floor. :)

^ well i don´t live in Madrid, but i know there are special aeroport buses that operate 24hours costing 2 euros.

taxes - they have different tariffs for different routes . in Barcelona, i pay around 2 euors per km to get to the airport.

I live in Madrid and I can tell you: taxis are very, very expensive. You can take the special airport bus, but I'd reccomend to use the underground or a new train line they opened like a month ago. The underground costs 2€ (you have to pay an extra for the airport) and the train costs 2.15€ (I think) but the time you spend travelling is shorter.

When I have to go to the airport, I always use the underground. It's really easy, you have maps everywhere and there are nice people and police to help you whenever you need it. I'm planning on give a try to the new train line the next time though, because eveybody says it's great.

Anything you need, Coldplayers coming to Madrid, we madrileños are willing to help :P. I hope we all can meet in the queue!

Madrid isn't such a great place to buy CDs, there are only a few (very expensive) independent stores and the huge stores like Media Market a are always in the suburban areas near the highway :\
So in the end, you'll always end up at Fnac :lol:

I put it to have 2 to compare because they are closer to "las Ventas" (the bull ring), on the same street Preciados, (Callao tube station) but my recommendation is also Fnac. Tube Station could be Sol also, the same line of Ventas (bull ring).

i loved doing that - music, movies, book .. Once, i even watched ´Tangled´ with little kids around me in Fnac, but then my friend had good laugh at me and dragged me out of there :(

Yeah i'm from Madrid.

I don't know, I got nothing to do this day (the concert one), but i'm going with three more people that have things to do, maybe I arrive by first hour in the morning or at lunchtime and save the seats for my companions :).

At the moment it's one of the hottest octobers in history, I don't expect anything than sun, and 25 ºC.

But looking the predictions for the next week are expecting 16/9 ºC and rain :(.

I'm Sergio, I'm Spanish (from Madrid) and I've been silently watching you all since a few years ago. It's now the time to properly say hello, isn't it? :)

Oh well, I'll go straight to the point. I'm attending the Coldplay show next Wednesday. It's my first CP show although, I've been a fan for maybe 5 or 6 years now... I didn't get to see them in the X&Y nor VLV tours, and I was eagerly waiting for my chance to come. Now it has ;) The best thing of it is that my girlfriend is the biggest Coldplay fan you can ever imagine, she's got something really special with this band... And I can eventually say that I'm making her dream come true. I feel really lucky and blessed, and I want to thank the guys for choosing Madrid for their Mylo Xyloto world-premiere. It's a honour.

I have surfed through all this looong topic and didn't get to see a pic of the tickets, so here comes mine:

Regarding the actual concert, I think I will start queing early in the morning of the 26th (8AM) since my mom works 50 meters away from the Las Ventas bullring... Although I might end up spending the night there, if it's not raining cats and dogs or something. I just want to have the best spot possible.

If someone has any questions regarding how to get to the bullring, where to have a drink or anything - I'm open to you. I've spent many years studying in a school a few yards away, so I know the zone very well.
