Coldplay return to the M.E.N Arena this winter for one of only three UK shows.

Tickets for the Sunday 4 December concert go on sale at 9.30am Friday 23 September, priced from £47.50. Please note, tickets are strictly limited to two per person.
After headlining Glastonbury and T In The Park this summer, the four-piece return for their first M.E.N Arena performance since 2008's sold-out Viva La Vida shows.

The band will be showcasing tracks from their new album Mylo Xyloto, including the first two singles Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall and Paradise.

The album is the follow-up to 2008's Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, which sold nine million copies worldwide.

Chris Martin and co are recent winners of BBC 6 Music's 2011 'Festival Headliner of the Year' and have been nominated in two categories at this year's Q Awards - 'Best Live Act' and 'Best Act In The World Today'.

Coldplay will be one of the bands performing at this year's Children in Need Rocks Manchester at the M.E.N Arena in November.

Glad I didn't get CiN tickets!

Just hope its not seated like last time. That sucked balls. Prices are pretty steep this time round!

19-09-2011, 10:48 AM
I am currently hating them (while loving them, of course) for this because I just spent over £100 on tickets for the CiN :|
GAH!!

Do we think they might announce more dates later on like they did last time? Because I missed out on MEN ones last time and then they announced LCCC, which I would rather again, I really dislike MEN as a venue :/

gib786
19-09-2011, 11:04 AM
I am hoping they play LCCC again. Despite the fact that it is in Lancashire, and so close to the scum ground it was a fantastic venue for the last show they did there

busybeeburns
19-09-2011, 11:05 AM
Venues like LCCC would be a different leg to the Arena because its a different environment - and would need to be in the summer. Possibly 2012?

beckie42
19-09-2011, 12:50 PM
That's what I'm hoping, mainly because I've spent the money I set aside for Coldplay this year already, and also, as I said because I really dislike the MEN :/
I suppose time will tell.
I wasn't really around before the last tour was announced, did they announce the Summer UK tour at the same time as the America tour? (If that doesn't make any sense I apologise, even I don't believe English is my first language sometimes)

my last visit here was over 3 years ago! Anyway, re: prices, is £47.50 general admission? Love going to see Coldplay but I'd be hesitant at paying £65 for just standing!

marcjoyce
19-09-2011, 02:10 PM
The ticket pricing suggests all seating again, don't you think?

Front floor £65
Floor £55
Gods £47.50

I say gods but i dont think there is a bad seat in the MEN, it's actually a good arena and i've enjoyed Coldplay a number of times in there.

However, prior to attempting to get tickets it'd be good to know what we're paying for.

Jenjie
19-09-2011, 03:23 PM
The MEN site doesn't say. all the other new shows says seated or seated & standing but the Coldplay box is blank.

also worth noting the MEN Arena says the tickets are limited to 2 per person

antshar
19-09-2011, 03:57 PM
From what I remember when I saw them at the NIA in Birmingham on the last tour, it was all seater but everyone on the floor seats stood up anyway. Saying that When I saw them at Wembley Stadium the following summer the same thing happened when I was sat up in the gods. So if you want to stand that badly the floor would be the place to go, but if its all seating I get the feeling a lot of the floor seats would be the most expensive because of the view you would get (unless there's someone with 'big hair' in front.

alexkelly92
19-09-2011, 04:01 PM
Will we know before tickets go on sale about whether the floor will be all seated or not?

When I saw them on the Viva tour at the Liverpool Echo Arena, it was all seated on the floor.

Thing is, I want to book tickets with a mate. If they do standing, we both just buy our own tickets separately. But if it's all seated, we'd have to buy together.

How can we find this out? I'll send some emails to MEN Arena people.

Cyan Kat
19-09-2011, 04:21 PM
I want to go to this but I don't know :/
it's seems like a lot of money and my brother would get upset if you can't get a third ticket and I know for a fact my mum wouldn't let me go alone which is so annoying.

busybeeburns
19-09-2011, 04:23 PM
sounds like the only way they could monitor that is 2 tickets per household or credit card no.

If another person did it as well you could have more, but obv. not seated together. Unless you went standing

Cyan Kat
19-09-2011, 04:25 PM

don't need to monitor it. they set the website so you can only select 2 tickets. by the time you've got through the system and sorted your first 2 tickets the venue will be sold out

I think the ticket prices area bit on the pricey side I was hoping to take my wife and 11 year old daughter but at £180 for 3 tickets I might have to disappoint them which would be a shame as my daughter is desperate to see them!

you're going to have to disappoint them anyway. they're limiting the tickets to 2 per person. unless you get someone else to buy you one, but then 1 of you would likely be sitting on their own

You should get the link in the email sent out to you if you're on the mailing list. Along with the password to use when you click that link on thursday at 09.30

I rang up Ticketmaster (After getting redirected to about 8 different ticketmaster helplines :laugh3: ) and they said that there will be standing tickets for the MEN Arena. After the last tour, I seriously thought it would be all seated again.

He also said he didn't know what prices the tickets were etc. So we still don't know which prices are which for what seats/standing etc.

Please let me know if anyone finds out :) Thanks.

having thoroughly browsed ticketmaster, I think the £47.50 are the standing tickets and the seats are £55 & £65.
the 2 MEN ticket pages are split into 1 with ticket prices at £47.50 & 1 with £55 & £65. which tallys with the 2 SECC pages which are labelled as Seated & Standing accordingly.
therefore I'd suggest £55 is upper tier and £65 lower tier seats.

Coldplay record sell out predicted as UK ticket scammers prepare to pounce

Coldplay record sell out predicted as ticket scammers prepare to pounce

On Monday, Coldplay announced that they would undertake three rare performances this December:

Dec 3, Glasgow SECC
Dec 4, Manchester MEN
Dec 9, O2 London

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9.30am but viagogo predicts that tickets will sell out in three minutes.

In 2009, Coldplay played just three stadium dates and sold out Wembley in just two minutes and in 2005, Coldplay's five date tour sold out in twenty minutes. Coldplay was the number one band search term post festival season this year ' moving up 20 places prior to the start of festival season in June, and after being voted top festival headliner by BBC6 Music this week, viagogo predicts that fans will see overwhelming competition for tickets, with just over 50,000 tickets going on sale.

viagogo warns that desperate fans are likely to fall victim of scam sites, preying on fans who miss out on tickets the first time around.

I'm worried that the best lower tier seats are going to be reserved for 'The View' tickets. This is such a rip off as you pay way over the odds for access to a bar and a glass of champagne before the gig. Booo!!!

Its better standing, plus its usually cheaper than seated tickets, and you have a chance to get to the front :)

In 2008 at the MEN Arena, it was all seated, which was rubbish coz everyone stands up anyway

Don't know whether general is back to 6pp though.

Can people do me a favour and check their order details?

I ordered off the ticketmaster manchester - standing presale and selected floor (was the only option to select) got my 2 tickets ok £106.50 for box office collection.

Anyway after clicking on ticket details it says I'm on the floor but row 15, seats 48-49. Is this just to control the amount of tickets they sell or is it actually seating on the floor?

Tempted to contact the MEN to find out. I really really don't want to sit.

I was under the impression from the stage plan on the presale page that the centre was standing only. But I would check with the venue if they've actually put the right plan up.

if it doesn't give you a block letter then I'd say its just numbers for health & safety purposes. if its seated, they separate them into A-K or whatever.

if the box wasn't somewhere in the roof, I'd check our old standing tickets for ouy. I've a vague idea they had seat numbers on.

How early do you think people will start queuing to try to get to the front?

when we've queued for front row we've started as early as 7am.

I was under the impression from the stage plan on the presale page that the centre was standing only. But I would check with the venue if they've actually put the right plan up.

you had to choose links between seated & standing before selecting ticket numebrs etc, so I would have thought so.

They can't sell out in the presale because although it's no problem finding out the link and presale password, they only allocate a certain % of the tickets for presale. So the presale will sell out at some point if it hasn't already done so yet.

Anyway, got my ticket :D Standing. Me and one of my mates going, can't wait!!

Also, are they set to sell out reeeeally quick? I'm reading all sorts of rumours about how fast they will be gone! :(

Hey, I don't know whether this has happened to anyone else, but I bought 2 standing tickets for the Manchester gig, but was charged 65 quid per ticket from See Tickets. Now I know on Ticketmaster the standing tickets were only 47.50. Has this happened to anyone or can they confirm the official ticket price before I launch into complaints

Where are they?

I got block 213 row A so I assume thats at the front of the upper tier, good view at least, I had a choice between that and 201 I think which is straight ahead but far back.

I would be willing to swap aswell for standing tickets £125 all together mine cost for 2.

We should quite lucky I guess because loads of people couldn't get anything!

Anyone know if the ticket lmit of 2 is for both pre-sale and general sale.

I bought four seats yesterday but ticketmaster cancelled two of them.
So luckily I got another two this morning but on same card. Not sure if they will cancel again.

A real bummer if they do as Ive been waiting for years to see Coldplay and really really want to go with my mum as she's their biggest fan.

You're lucky! I was constantly refreshing on gigs and tours to, and my dad on ticket master but ticket master was playing up and not even giving seating tickets! It's really such a shame how people buy them just to make massive money of them, something needs to be done about it

I'm SO SO pleased - got 2 tickets in block 115 - lower tier row S (which is great for me as I'm short and wouldn't be able to see anything if I was standing). Roll on 4th December!! I was also lucky enough to see them at the Royal Court hidden Liverpool gig last December (which was amazing)

Just a quick one for all those with upper tier seats: don't fret. It will be awesome.

On the Viva tour I got 3 right at the very back of the arena facing the stage and it was just unbelievable. Perfect view of everything and seeing the whole place stand as one when Viva La Vida started will stay with me for the rest of my life. And if you are on that very back row there's a little ledge behind your seat to put your beer on. Win.

I was wondering about this too after buying tickets from See...but have now had this email:

"The tickets you purchased for COLDPLAY

The difference in cost has been refunded back on your card and you now have
a new booking reference number. Please find your new booking details below."

if you're looking for tickets, I'd add a post to the ticket exchange thread which is stickied at the top of the Coldplay Live forum, you never know someone may help you. :)

and just as an aside, I wouldn't expect anyone from Coldplaying to charge you more than face value for tickets. any adverts on here for more than that will be removed.

I'll be going to this! I have standing tickets :D I'm so unbelievably excited. My mum was going to get them for me while she was at work cause I was at college, but she text me saying her laptop wasn't working so I was mega gutted. But at college my lesson had been moved to a computer room so she texted me her card details and i booked them at college :D Got them on presale day xD

I'm not sure if the person who I planned on going with can even go atm so i may have to find another friend :P

I'm so nervous about seeing them xD I've been a fan for a looong time but never seen them live so I was mega excited when this was announced ;3

I'll be getting the train there and back xD My last train is at 23:20 :/ And I'm going from Manchester Piccadily so it's like 20 minutes from MEN. Will it have finished by then or am I gonna have to leave early? :'( I'm also worried because of this on the National Rail website about my train journey: "First TransPennine Express
Details of any engineering work that may be affecting First TransPennine Express services between Saturday 3 and Friday 9 December are not yet known. Please check back nearer the time of travel."

If my train is cancelled I will cryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I might end up having to either beg my mum to drive and wait or get a taxi and pay extortionate prices...

So yeah.... That ended up being my life story ina post :') I'm just extremely excited to think that this time in 9 weeks I'll be stood in front of Coldplay :3

apsolutely gutted I am not going, probably would have been able to get a ticket if they were doing more shows, but only 3 in the UK? What a let down, surely they must know that more people would want to go than would fill 3 venues!!! I've been on ebay and the prices are going up and up, no way can I afford prices like that, I am in the process of moving house and spending a fortune on petrol as my dads been very ill and needs alot of trips to hospital and doctors, we both live quite away from those places, I would no doubt pay alot for a coldplay ticket, but right now is just a bad bad time!!!! I can but hope they play some stadium gigs next summer, maybe LCCC again, don't mind that venue so much as I have to commit a sin by walking past scums ground, old trafford!!!

I checked the M.E.N arena website which said"Coldplay return to the M.E.N Arena next month to perform in a 360 degree view setting." so I have just got two tickets for block 119 at the rear of the stage,my daughter is going to be so excited what a great early Christmas present for a junior coldplayer, I don't know when to tell her now or on the day of the show?

a 360 degree stage??? really????
So it says, looking at some of the ticket prices for the rear view seats I thought it would be strange for the band to sell tickets knowing that the fans at the back would get to see a load of equipment and the back of the band.

So what would the 360 stage look like? Would it be one where there is the stage at the front and then it comes out into the middle? Or like the U2 360 where it's just a stage in the middle and that's it?

I very much doubt its 360 degrees, and the MEN Arena plan for the show desnt suggest it. Plus having seen U2 in 360 degrees, I know a lot goes into creating that, especially with regard to lighting and seating. U2s stage partly rotated with bridges and a circular runway and 360degree screen.

HASAN18

The queue system at CiN Rocks at the MEN Arena was atrocious - well I say queue but there wasn't one - got there at 10am and there was about 40 people ahead of me, and we sat there all day hoping to be the first ones and get to the front, but by 5oclock people were arriving and getting to the front because there was no system in place, no barriers, and they just opened the doors and everyone rushed and pushed to get in. Plus we had to queue inside and get wristbands before being allowed through the doors to the floor. Ridiculous.

So I don't know how they will organise this gig in terms of queuing up for standing fans. Is it really worth going early?

Jenjie
19-11-2011, 11:01 AM
its a long while ago, but last time I did standing for the MEN, they opened the doors to the concourse and then made you queue again at the block doors before letting you down into the standing area. so you might have been front of the queue at the outside door you were at but then further back in the queue at the inner door.

Normally I only do crazy tramping about for The Boss, but things have fallen into place and am headed over from the US for a long weekend with my wife and two kids, ending with this show (our first)! Took a chance on the 360 stage setup and got four aisle seats in 120.

Does anybody know whether the MEN have cloakroom facilities? On their site it says they are available within hospitality packages, but nothing about the normal punter.

If they don't I could possibly freeze in the queue.

I don't think they do.
But the queueing up is all inside, theres a McDonalds just there and the train station below. So you won't be queuing up outside. just wear something warm that is OK to wear inside during the gig too.

As for queuing, not sure how this will work. Arrived early for the CiN concert at the MEN and 'queued up' all day, however theres no system/barriers in place, so we just sat on the floor, and by 5pm there were people arriving and getting in front, and once the doors opened it was just a big rush with everyone pushing.
Once in the main concourse you have to queue again for the next set of doors with stairs leading to the floor.

I've found my seating experience at the M.E.N. to be consistently more enjoyable than my standing experiences.

Green Day, went standing, queued up for most of the day, skipped out on merch and got to the barrier.
Gorillaz, went seating, arrived after doors opened, wandered in, bought a Tee and a poster, took my seat just before the support began. Very chilled evening.
My Chemical Romance, went standing, arrived as doors opened, ended up on middle floor after going to merch.
Arctic Monkeys, went standing, queued most of the afternoon, skipped merch, got pushed over as everyone rushed onto the floor, ended up right near the bag, didn't get into the gig really.

So I'm looking forward to Coldplay! Seating tickets with my best mate who I haven't seen for a month or two. Going to be a great evening out!

read my paragraph above ^ from last weeks experience at the MEN Arena, seems queuing up early is un-necessary as they don't prioritise and theres no queue line, just sit anywhere outside the doors :-(

we're probably the same, not sure where to park though. last tram for us is 22:35 so we won't be making that

I find it frustrating that the transport in a city like Manchester can't run long enough to get people home after a concert.

Ye in 2008 it was around 10.45, on thursday and friday, so the last train at 11:08 was perfect, hassle-free compared to driving.
Being a Sunday theres no late train/trams, it is ridiculous really.
