I am not writing to defend the single Paradise, nor am I intending to bash it.

But I must point out that people seem to be forgetting that Mylo Xyloto is a concept album. And that is why I am so surprised by the apparent rush to judgment by so many people.

Judging a concept album by one single (or two, if you include ETIAW) is misguided. It is like reading one or two chapters in a book and calling the whole novel shit.

Perhaps the marketing approach has been a bit off. The promotional plan has encouraged fans to judge the band's new direction before it can be fully understood.

I respect the opinions of those who are disappointed (although I, personally, don't think the song is bad). But I don't think we should be so quick to write off Coldplay.

Wait until the story is complete.

If they don't want a song from a concept album to be judged as a stand-alone song, then they shouldn't be putting out singles in the first place.

ahuehuehue, true.

And I don't care what type of album it is, giving it a special name won't necessarily make it good.

The Concept Album Vs. Digital-Single Deathmatch!

Ladies and Gentlemen,… Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome! Welcome to the CD Baby Grand Hotel & Casino, where tonight we will witness the grace, the brutality, the finesse, the fury, the bloody dance of two musical mediums tangling. Rivals will rumble in an epic contest, a winner-take-all tussle, to prove who should wear the ultimate title and reign supreme.

In the blue corner: with heavy-hitting power, ambitious scope, narrative arc, recurring motifs, big production budgets, strong ties to Broadway and Operatic tradition, drawing proudly upon past hits like Pink Floyd’s The Wall, The Who’s Tommy, David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, Jay-Z’s American Gangster, and Elvis Costello’s Juliet Letters,… ladies and gentlemen,… The Concept Album- A sprawling musical work best served on vinyl as a double or triple record with deluxe foldout art!

And in the red corner: agile, trim, compact, self-sufficient, a loner with one eye on speedy delivery and the other on instant gratification, doing the age-old dance of the popular song, folk tune, Goethe Lieder, or any other little piece of music that you love, straight from the heart but aiming for the head and hoping to get stuck there, … ladies and gentlemen,… The Digital-Single- a catchy 3-minute experience of sound and silence beamed through the air to your MP3 player via the magic of wi-fi.

Yes, we know outside these walls the two can sometimes live peacefully together. But within this ring, only one will survive. Place your bets. Place your bets. The battle is about to begin. Who will you pick to win, and how will you decide?

Yes very hard to market a concept album, even harder to market a concept album incorporating different genres. Coldplay have themselves admitted that they put everything in this album, so all the styles they have used in the past and present.

Maybe we find the lyric of Paradise a bit odd, because it's out of the bigger context of the album, maybe when we hear the album, the song will make more sense lyrically...

Think it will fit the album well and I can't wait for how it fits in with the rest of the story.

Love the song and it was the perfect choice for a single. :)

" up in flames, I trust that you will be the repairer of the situation "

Paradise sounds good in the middle of Hurts Like Heaven and Charlie Brown, but, and a hidden track after paradise ? and can change the aspect of the album
