View Full Version : Roadie Update!!! - Up in Flames and DLIBYH make the cut

It's getting closer, and great to finally hear from Roadie again.

So it looks like Up in Flames makes the cut, and seems to be a spectacular song along the lines of Fix You perhaps. it's amazing Chris wrote the night before the Itunes festival... wow, could it be the Clocks of the album - Roadie's description is interesting - hypnotically simple (kind of like the sound of the studiofeed sound we got a while back). Can't wait to hear it, and it's a part of the setlist.

I guess for all the haters of the seemingly "trite" titles are going to be disappointed that DLIBYH is making the cut - i don't care about titles - i care about the music and the lyrics personally - and from an earlier tweet - it seems Jonny gets all guitar hero on this one - "violently life affirming" - wow, that's an interesting description - and it seems to be another theme of the album which is pretty much every coldplay album - living life to the fullest.

Cant' wait - one more week till Paradise drops - i hope it's massive - almost as close to Viva if not as good. Viva is a one of kind song that most bands can only dream of - I think Paradise will be close but we'll have to hear it soon enough.

Ummm,Up in Flames is quite sure..but i cant read anything about DLIBYH is confirmed to be on it...to me,its just a rehearsal of songs heard today by the roadie...

Why they should have a rehearsal of a song which won't make the cut 3 days before they must hand the album away?

I'm sure both songs will be up on Mylo Xyloto.

And it sounded interesting but we have to wait. Basically its not more than:

Up in Flames: Simply but emotional
DLIBYH: Life affirming.

I was amazed at how vast and invigorating it sounded. They’re going to blow the sodding walls out when they kick into this one tomorrow…

Ah yes, tomorrow - the band arrive at lunchtime for a full day of rehearsals. I guess I’d better make sure I’m ready…

I'm sure that TOMORROW will be on the album.
Only my thoughts but anyway i'd like to share them XD.

No, we don't know what it means. I guess the band wants to keep it secret if they're using the abreviation DLIBYH.

bdevil89

Yeah - I don't think he's hinting at Tomorrow - it sounds like he's just talking the start of rehearsals and the eventual longer journey they will embark on for the next 2 yrs - btw, i hope a lot of new songs make the album keeping it fresh - the more the better, well as long as it is what they want.

But again, don't think Roadie is hinting at tomorrow, but who knows with they've been promoting this album.

As for DLIBYH - knowing Chris and his pretty simple titles or at least his theme of love, heartbreak, etc. - it's likely something about breaking your heart at least, again based on Chris' history. Regardless, excited to hear at least 3 new songs on the album.

"Up In Flames feels the same to me right now. It’s immense. I first heard it when the guys were sound-checking at the iTunes show. Apparently, Chris had started the song the previous night, so it was less than 24 hours old at that point. It was hypnotic in its simplicity, but devastatingly, achingly gorgeous. The final version has lost none of this and is a masterwork of restraint. It hasn’t been crammed with a million ideas and embellishments. Every part is there simply to enhance the emotional impact. I can only predict floods of tears in every quarter."

SIMPLICITY! :D I am excited. Some of my favorite Coldplay songs have been simple. Well, most of them have been. I have a hunch this will be one of MX's most organic songs. "It hasn't been crammed with a million ideas and embellishments." This kinda infers for me that R42 may not be fond of many of the minor sounds, overproduction, and stuff thrown into songs for this era. This will be no Major Minus or ETIAW, thats for sure. :)
I hope it provides much of what has made Coldplay my favorite band. According to R42 it does!
1. Simplicity. Check.
2. Gorgeous and hypnotic sound. Check.
3. An incredibly significant, emotional impact. CHECK.

One thing that concerned me: R42 stated when he was talking about mixing Paradise something about Will's "programmed beats" in the song. What the heck does that mean? Hopefully there isn't anything weird with the percussion.

Well it's even worse than judging a book by it's cover! In this case, people are judging DLIBYH as if they were judging "The Great Gatsby" when given TGG. Or "Lord of the Rings" from LOTR. Lame.

Not that I don't agree, but for the record they aren't hating on "DLIBYH", they're hating on the title (if it is a title, which I wouldn't mind because I don't actually think its bad...it reminds me of Oasis' Stop Crying Your Heart Out) "Don't Let It Break Your Heart.

And also, it might've been a coincidence, but the fuzzy man took 110 steps and was put out onto YouTube on May 24th. So, 110 days from May 24th is September 12th (aka Paradise's release date...).

Not to sound like pompous, but those lyrics were made up on the spot... and they were part of the background artwork I had created just for fun. They are in there so I just threw them out there to make the artwork gain popularity. It doesn't make me an expert. I NEVER thought anyone would think those lyrics were real... but they did add to the mystique of the aforementioned artwork. Plus, it lead to others coming up with lyrics... so, if that upset you, I apologize. Plus, I have heard snippets of two songs. So have a few other people MORE IMPORTANT than me and they are tight-lipped, too. Not allowed to say ANYTHING or heads will roll.

Chris was playing the piano in the image that was released on Twitter of the band playing Up In Flames and now R42 is talking about how simple and beautiful it is. I have a feeling Up In Flames will be my favourite song on the album and it'll sound like The Scientist or Amsterdam which happen to be my 2 favourite songs by Coldplay. Maybe the album won't be so crap after all.

Also, this DLBYH thing confirms that just because a song isn't registered on ASCAP or whatever, it doesn't mean that it won't make the album. Just something to think about. Maybe the whole thing about the track being 'life affirming' could mean it'll be the final track and it'll replace ETIAW. Maybe not, but I can hope. It seems to be a happy song which would fit in with what the band have said about wanting a happy ending to the album.

Also, he's not annoyingly trolling. I don't even think he's trolling because all the stuff he makes up (lyrics, back album covers, track listing, etc), he says are made up. Speculation. He just visualizing his thoughts instead of vocalizing them. He's not hiding anything.

Rafael, will you please stfu about Coldplayer1317?
I mean, you're the only one who's still going on about him, and no one gives a ****
because he was banned over a month ago.

Anyway, as we all agree he was SUPER annoying, he would want this forum to still be talking about him. People like him feed off of that kind of crap. :\

If "Up in Flames" and "DLIBYH" are as good as mentioned, this is setting up to be a great album. No duds on this one... and really, hard to pick a dud on any album but some albums of theirs flow better than others. I like most of the songs on X&Y, but it isn't an album I listen to straight through anymore, while AROBTTH just seems to be a template for a perfect tracklisting (IMHO). VIVA LA VIDA had a somewhat disjointed flow to it, but the back four songs made up for it for me. I think of "Major Minus" to be the "Cemetaries of London" for this record... a good song but not one I put as a favorite (yet I really like every now and then).

Although for the record, I think Viva has the best flow of any album I've heard :P

Agreed!

In my opinion, their only true "dud" was on X&Y. I hate "The Hardest Part." And it doesn't really fit with anything else, in my eyes.

Viva was just so cohesive, focused and textured. It's really hard for me to listen to any one song. I have to listen to them all! :P

It's a tough one to dissect... only because of the hidden songs and the fact that most of the songs are collages. I love all of them, but for fun debate I put it in this order:

01 AROBTTH
02 VLVODAAHF
03 Parachutes
04 X&Y

Sh*t, they are all good.

Great call on "The Hardest Part". I do hear that in supermarkets every now and then, but I skip that one, too.

 Yep, although for me it's X&Y more often than 'The Hardest Part'. Man, if they had put the acoustic version of THP on the album then it would have been so amazing :wacky:

Although I'll sometimes skip over Green Eyes also :curtain::

Not to beat a dead horse, but I can't wrap my head around "Every Teardrop" and I am hoping that it "fits" within the album and compliments it... otherwise, I'll be skipping that one, too—the worse thing about getting all this music "spoonfed" to us is possibly having heard the majority of it before it gets released.

X&Y has a couple duds, Swallowed In The Sea and What If. I even like some of the b-sides more.

Kind of the wrong place to ask, but does anyone happen to have a nice-resolution image of the single artwork for White Shadows? I can only find it covered in .jpg artifacts and like 300x300 at the most. :(

^People are CRAZY for Swallowed in the Sea. I think it's a pretty strong track on that album. My thing was that the entire album was...messy. And way too long.

Musically=fairly strong. Lyrically=one of their weakest efforts ever. So. Yeah. but that's just my opinion.

I can see that

But I think X&Y (the whole album) isn't very lyrically strong. Save for "White Shadows" and "Low." But that's just what I think.

Lyrics aren't the only things that make songs really good. "Fix You" is an awesome song (one of my favorites), especially live, but the lyrics on paper are really basic and a little drab.

True. But I would argue "Talk", "Speed of Sound" and "Til Kingdom Come" are pretty good too in terms of wording.

And that's a good point. Coldplay were never known for their lyrics. "Fix You" is beautifully simplistic. It works well. Speaking of that, I do expect "Up in Flames" to be a lot better though. Lyrically at least. And the BASS part as well. Can't wait for thattttt!

Fix You is the only good song off of X&Y. That album is a mess, and it pains me to sayi t.

I've adored everything I have heard off Mylo Xyloto though, so I think it will end up fine.

By the way, I love the really simple lyrics of Fix You. It reads like a rough draft to a song, nothing is filtered and nothing is refined. It's raw.

I think X&Y has some good tracks. It just is, like you said, messy.

Fix you is AWESOME.
Talk is good.
I like White Shadows (especially the last minute or so when it's all atmospheric and ambient).
Swallowed in the Sea is alright.
Low is really good.
Kingdom Come is a classic.

But the problem with X&Y is that we have to do just that: Pick it apart. With the other albums (Viva is the best example), we don't have to skip around to find the best songs. It just works, listening all the way through. Same with Rush of Blood, same with Parachutes. X&Y is just a difficult listen because, unlike fans of or many other acts like Lady Gaga (who is talented but puts out really, REALLY long, messy albums), Coldplay fans are spoiled (and better :smug:)and expect something clean, organized and cohesive.

Coldplay is a band that sells albums, not singles. X&Y did NOT fit into that philosophy.

Yes, Talk, Till Kingdom Come and Swallowed in the Sea are good songs. But are they songs I want to listen to over and over again? Are they songs that make me feel blessed to have Coldplay in existence? Nope. They're just okay songs I don't mind to listen to. I can't stomach Low and White Shadows.

Fix You is the only good song in my opinion. By "good song" i mean good song by Coldplay's standards.

X&Y is, without a doubt, the most I've ever been disappointed in an album. It's rotten, it's messy and it's all over the place. And whilst X & Y was being made and performed, Coldplay went through a rough patch themselves and fell apart a bit.

This is no coincidence at all. The album reflects that.

Thankfully they hit back with Viva and the rest is history. They're amazing.

And we thought Moving to Mars was epic... they're really talking big about Up in Flames like it will be even better. Also, it Ssounds like DLIBYH will be another happy, upbeat song. Oh, how magical it will be when I get to hear this album for the first time. :D

I guess we all have our opinions! But we all know that Coldplay kicks ass.

"Yes" is one of my favorite Coldplay songs. It's just so bold. And "Fix You" obviously is spectacular. But I agree about X&Y as a whole: It is quite messy. That's why I'm hoping for a shorter, textured album similar to Viva this time around.

To continue the X&Y debate:

Awesome songs: Swallowed In The Sea, Fix You, Talk, A Message, Gravity (yes, it's a b-side but I honestly think it's one of Coldplay's best songs :wacky: and it should have been on the album)

Songs that aren't too bad: Speed of Sound, White Shadows, Twisted Logic, Square One, 'Til Kingdom Come

Songs that could have been left off: X&Y, What If, Low

I really like "Low," but the other two I'd agree with.

Gravity is also great!

Again, X&Y is really the only album where anything could have been left out. I can't picture any other Coldplay album with any different tracklisting. Ever. They're basically perfect!
