I was reading an article in Big Issue and he is well mad...... I do like the song though and I do think he has a dead angel in his arms and what's all the people trying to move the building for .......i tell you ....off his rocker he is!!! :P 8)

Wasn't Alone With Everybody Richard's family album? A cheerful one. This one sounds like he has lost faith in somebody. Family? Friends? Dog?
Maybe I'm just waiting for the sound and vibe Nick McCabe could get out of his guitar.
Still think Check The Meaning's a great song, video is crap, Human Conditions should be a good album.

I saw Richard Ashcroft live for the first time when i went to see Coldplay at Earl's Court in December. He was superb. He sang some of The Verve's old material like The Drugs Dont Work, Sonnet and Bittersweet Symphony, which i've always liked anyway but live they were just amazing. He also a song from the new album called Words Just Get In The Way. I also really like his new single Break The Night With Colour so i'm thinking of getting his new album now  I'm also waiting for my copy of Urban Hymns to arrrive, from what i've heard it's an amazing album so i can't wait! :D
Ditto everything you said honey! :D

Peruse any British music magazine which has recently profiled Richard Ashcroft and chances are one of three descriptions — egomaniac, self-absorbed and superior to others — will surface.
Quite surprising, considering he opened his conversation to Metro with an amiable, “Hello. How’s the weather over there?” and maintained a gentlemanly tone throughout. This is the same Richard Ashcroft who reputedly once compared his artistry to Jesus Christ? Apparently someone has a personal axe to grind with the former Verve frontman.
“I could talk to any guy for 20 minutes about my insecurities and my own failings and how that’s a big driver for most of what I write about,” says, Ashcroft, 34. “But that won’t enter the conversation because of the preconceived ‘image’ one guy may have of me before he arrives.”
So what has been his ‘image’ of late? Since the Verve’s split in 1999, the man once dubbed Mad Richard has now focused on being Domesticated Richard with wife of 10 years, former Spiritualized keyboardist Kate Radley, and his two boys Sonny, who turns 6 this coming Thursday, and Cassius, 1.
“Away from making records, that’s been my life,” Ashcroft says succinctly.
Still, music drives Ashcroft to create, best summed up on a cut from his month-old third post-Verve effort, Keys To The World: Music Is Power.
And like the Verve classic Bittersweet Symphony, Music Is Power is largely driven by a sample — in this case, Walter Jackson’s 1964 hit It’s All Over, produced by Curtis Mayfield.
“A friend of mine made a compilation for me and I put it on while I was driving home from the south of France one night,” Ashcroft explains. “When the introduction of It’s All Over came on, I thought man, I could do albums with this kind of stuff. The phrase Music Is Power then popped into my mind as I kept playing this intro over and over.”
Ashcroft’s mulling over whether to release this as his next single. The first, Break The Night With Colour, already affirmed his star status by climbing to No. 3 on the U.K. charts.
Yet renewed interest in Ashcroft was truly sparked when he joined Coldplay for a rendition of Bittersweet Symphony during London’s Live 8 concert last July. It was there that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin introduced Ashcroft as “the best singer in the world.”
High praise indeed, though Ashcroft downplays the moment. “I’m sure it’s reawakened some people,” says Ashcroft, though noting that, aside from working with former Verve drummer Pete Salisbury on all three solo albums, it’s “doubtful” a full band reunion will ever materialize.
“For me, it’s all about the soul of my music, the lyrics and the connection it all makes to people.”
Richard Ashcroft’s popularity is on the rise again.
Ashcroft opens for Coldplay when the two acts hit the Air Canada Centre stage Wednesday and Thursday.

Richard Ashcroft has been fined for being drunk and disorderly at an under-12s night at a youth club.
The 34-year-old former frontman of The Verve was arrested after police were called.
Around 60 kids were at the Bridge Centre Youth Club, Melksham, Wilts, at the time.
Ashcroft, who has two children, was taken to Melksham police station and handed an on-the-spot £80 penalty fine before being released.
The incident happened on Monday evening.
Earlier this year Ashcroft released Keys to the World, his third solo album since The Verve split-up.

felt stupid saying I came all the way from argentina, but he just looked straight at my eyes and said 'wow that's great, thank you so much for your support'
he looked really surprised and kept smiling back, he was really a charm and I was shaking haha he gave me his hand and signed my album and my Preston ticket
I was forth in the queue so I got the chance of taking a pic too, and then queued again to get my bf's cd signed (there were about 400 people there :stunned:) and when he asked who should he sign it for I said 'Stephen, cause you already signed mine' and he looked at me and said 'I know I did' :D I almost fainted that minute but was smart enough and said to myself what the hell and asked for a hug  he said sure, stood up and hugged me and gave me a kiss too
I couldn't stop thanking him, gave me his hand again and left
wow that was one long post :D

I'm still angry when I think about what happened with the hamburg concert. cancelling a few hours before the show and then it took two months to get the money back... >.<
he still hasn't said a word about what was wrong. anyways...

oh well as from what I've read he was ill :\
he've been having this really bad throat problem since christmas and he kept touring and all so it went worse apparently
went back to singing at Isle of Wight after a week or so of resting his voice and he sounded really rough there too, which proves how ill he was in the first place :smug:

No, definitely not!
I'm fed up to the back teeth! It was a shame that he cancelled his concert in Hamburg just 5 hours before it should have started and I can't deal with it! It was also a torture to get my money back!
Not with me!
andyjean
12-09-2006, 04:49 PM
Ooh I'm confident this time, though I have to be honest, cancelling is quite common when it comes to him. These are kind of warm-up gigs, so I don't think he'll be cancelling right before his UK arena dates. Now that would be a serious shame!
But I totally get your reaction, I'm sure it was such a disappointment last time!
*Sarah*

No, I haven't!
But in my opinion it wasn't the right way how to treat the supporters! Sure, it's always possible that a concert might be cancelled, but you definitely know it more than just 5 hours ago.
andyjean
15-09-2006, 12:21 AM
It's your call after all, and I don't want to sound as if standing up for him (cause I'm really not, I agree that he should have given some kind of explanation), but I think cancelling with only some hours of advance means exactly the opposite. He was REALLY ill and he was close to losing his voice, but anyway he sure wanted to perform all the same til the last minute. Again, it was doctor's advice, and yeah, it's kind of a very old issue.
I just can't help feeling happy for him being back on stage and rescheduling this tour :D

lol ehhm... ah, well. after the concert we waited at the backstage entrance and one stuff member (with a very british accent :laugh3: ) asked if we wanted to have something signed. he said richard was still in a meeting and it would take some time until he would leave. so we gave our tickets to that guy and richard could sign them. 20 minutes later he (ehm, richard ^^) came out, signed more autographs and took photos ;)
... yes. ^^

Oh yes, THAT song.
:laugh4: It's very controversial on his forums! Truth is, I heard a tiny snippet from the NYC gig earlier this year and I thought it was kinda... poor? Lyrics are, don't know about the music. It sounded very similar to the Stones' 'She's so cold', ironically.

http://static.pitchforkmedia.com/images/image/9304.keys-to-the-world.gif
Anyone with ample knowledge of Jim Morrison and proper distance from adolescent fandom recognizes the Lizard King's gift for comedy. Forget poetry, dude brought the laffs, from quasi-poetically stringing together the words "mute nostril agony" to regaling us with tales of "Indians scattered on dawn's highway." Priceless! Our ex-hippie gym teachers were right: The Doors frontman died way too young. Because, had the Shaman of Shtick made it through the 1970s, he might have realized his now-obvious comedic ambitions as fully as Richard Ashcroft, who used to catch Mojo Risin' comparisons back when his former band, the Verve, were actually psychedelic. Now, I slapped an 8.3 rating on a compilation of the Verve's singles as recently as 2004, and didn't hate Ashcroft's last two solo albums as much you all did, so my expectations were wide-open approaching Keys to the World, which the man self-hyped with Gallagher-brother aplomb as "hot shit." Riffing on John Lennon, he clearly meant "flaming pile."
See, Ashcroft's latest takes the over-seriousness of 2002's Human Conditions-- which he has personally likened to Marvin Gaye's best work-- and turns it still seriouser, into inimitable omg-wtf farce. Swept up in maudlin strings and chintzy brass, Ashcroft blurs his anguished syllables like Tom Petty doing Bob Dylan, embraces U2-jerkoff bombast, and follows his idiosyncratically generic muse into uncharted depths. Keys to the World is as hilariously indulgent as "Trapped in the Closet", if vastly less self-aware; it's also a more laughable satire of contemporary music than Bang Bang Rock 'n' Roll, though less durable and totally accidental.
Before Keys to the World, I never knew Coldplay's "Fix You" was subtle. Then I heard "The Words Just Get in the Way" (inevitably inferior to the similarly titled Gloria Estefan power ballad), on which, over colorless midtempo acoustic guitars, Ashcroft offers Chris Martin-like assistance: "When your back's against the wall/ There's no one left to call/ Then call me." And right on cue come the handclaps, the twangy guitar licks, dripping strings, and endless "Hey Jude" ad libs. "Sing it to me now!" Ashcroft instructs to a chanting chorus that, appropriately, consists only of himself.
Before Keys to the World, I never knew Bono was humble. The title track loops a C+C Music Factory-esque vocal sample amid canned MOR rhythms and melodramatic synths as Ashcroft jumps into a tragic, awkwardly worded tale: "Institutions, you went through them, ah/ From the age of five/ And no one loves you, cared/ If you lived or you died." But, like Africa's great white Time Person-of-the-Year hope with money-solves-everything ambitions, Ashcroft has another hubristic fix: "Perhaps I could make it better." How, Richard? "I've got the keys to the world, yeah, aw/ Mixed-up world/ I've got the keys to the world, yeah." For good measure, we also get an Everlast-style megaphone almost-rap. I promise.
Before Keys to the World, I never knew our world's problems could be presented so laughably by anyone not named Stephen Colbert. On fast-paced opener "Why Not Nothing", Ashcroft takes shots at the religious right ("the god squad"). But his slurred barbs soon fizzle into non-sequiturs: "Who the fuck are you when you take that mask away?/ Friend, I don't know/ Oh, where do we go?" Again Ashcroft has a keen suggestion for our betterment: "Take my advice, don't let 'em treat you like a fool." Then he emits porcine grunts for the last 30 seconds. On brightly adorned showstopper "World Keeps Turning", he mentions the U.S. president in suddenly apolitical fashion, and informs us of the Earth's movements with all the self-destructive solemnity of Copernicus: "The world keeps turning/ Everybody's learning/ Keep your head up."
Before Keys to the World, I agreed with the general consensus that music reviews should be relatively concise. But I still haven't told you about how "Cry to the Morning" reinterprets those three ominous "All Along the Watchtower" chords on music-box keyboard, how mechanically depressive single "Break the Night With Colours" bizarrely hints at Mr. Big's "To Be With You", or how the sprightly Cat Stevens folksiness that opens "Why Do Lovers?" transmogrifies into a fierce affirmation of a deity's existence, the stupefying one-liner, "The demons I've got they are amazing," and the stupefyinger, "Life is tough and life can be hard."
On Jim Morrison's sprawling, nipple-eyed "Celebration of the Lizard", chronicled on the 1970 double-disc Absolutely Live album, he captured psychotropic absurdity Ashcroft hasn't matched in years. He does this on the neighbor-loving ("until his wife gets home") title track from 1969's The Soft Parade, too. And also on the posthumous An American Prayer poetry disc, with impossibly kitschy blues-funk overdubbed by his surviving bandmates, money-grubbers even then. The drugs really worked for Morrison. Ashcroft, too, could leave audiences howling with that record's finest rib-tickler: "I will always be a word man, better than a bird man."

Really not a fan of either single or the album in general. Never liked his solo stuff too much, just not on the same level as The Verve, three genius albums. Nothing can beat listening to A Storm in Heaven on headphones in the dark!!
Do I take it that Richard Ashcroft is currently locked up in a studio recording solo LP number 4?
