so :dozey:

punks united
10-02-2004, 10:37 PM
really...?

Okay, i did a lab on mass and mole relationships in a chemical reaction and have to fid the percent error.

We used NaCl and NaHCO_3

punks united
10-02-2004, 10:38 PM
it is for the experimental mole ratio

Leaver
10-02-2004, 10:38 PM
then

punks united
10-02-2004, 10:49 PM
?

The theoretical molee ratio is 1:1

and i got the experimental to be .37 mol NACl and .38 mol NaHCO_3

Leaver
10-02-2004, 10:50 PM
what about the theoric? :stunned:

punks united
10-02-2004, 10:53 PM
i got 1:1 ratio.....for the equation NaHCo_3+HCl(aq) >>NaCl+Co_2+H_2_O

and the simplest whole number ratio that i got for .37 and .38 is 1:1 but then that means that my percent error is o%

Leaver
10-02-2004, 10:57 PM
why there's no oxygen in the left part of the equation :stunned:

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:01 PM
i fixed it...now there is :) sorry

Leaver
10-02-2004, 11:03 PM
have you the molair masse(don't know how it is call in english)

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:04 PM
for which substances?

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:05 PM
for NaHCo_3 it is 83.996
and for NaCl it is 58.433

Leaver
10-02-2004, 11:06 PM
so for NaHCO_3 and hcl

musiclover
10-02-2004, 11:08 PM

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:08 PM
hcl..u don't need the mass cuz u are finding the ratio between NaHCO_3 and NCl

Leaver
10-02-2004, 11:09 PM
do you got the masse?

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:09 PM
it would help u that i had 3.1 g of NaHCO_3 and 2.2 g of NCl

Leaver
10-02-2004, 11:10 PM
do you they ask nomber of mole?

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:13 PM
yes and then you find the simplest whole number ratio between them.

Leaver
10-02-2004, 11:15 PM
do you know how to find it?

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:26 PM
you divide the number of grams by molar mass to get the number of moles

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:32 PM
i think i got the answer...thanks for helping me Lea :)

Leaver
10-02-2004, 11:32 PM
and what does it give?

fifi
10-02-2004, 11:38 PM
:stunned: *frightened by how clever Nikki and Léa are*

10-02-2004, 11:39 PM
tisss i can't explain what i want nikki to understand :(

punks united
10-02-2004, 11:48 PM
i got a 0% experiment mole ratio error....you get this by finding the difference between the two ratios and dividing by the theoretical and then multiply it by 100

Leaver
10-02-2004, 11:51 PM
(theo-exp)/theo
*100?

musiclover
11-02-2004, 12:30 AM
i don't see what the problem is. if you don't have any error, that's supposed to be the best possible world! :idea2:

plus, as you said, the difference was 0.37 to 0.38...

Oh, you're a chemical engineer? I don´t understand anything in chemistry - everything is so complicated...
History is really good - I want to study it just this year(after my graduation in may)...

musiclover
11-02-2004, 12:59 AM
you're really from Czech republic? land of Vaslav Havel?!

umm...history is fun to discover and rediscover...the textbooks don't tell the whole truth...ever! that's what you should start from :-)

and yeah...chemical engineer...it's okay. it is hard, but i've seen people persevere and do really really well in it!

soleil
11-02-2004, 01:01 AM

Angel at his table

And -yes - I'm really from Czech republic, but we have another president now - Václav Klaus. I think that Václav Havel was better

musiclover
11-02-2004, 01:05 AM
actually i'm working as an environmental engineer in the chemical/refineries industry...hahaha so i don't really use my chemical engineering functional skills, but i do use my chemical engineering knowledge to deduce info about environmental effects of certain chemical/petro refinery plant operations... it's kinda like "applied" chemical engineering, just like engineering is "applied science"

i'm liking it! but it's too much tension! :stunned: specially when my decision leads to literally thounsands or even millions of dollars worth of actions...

soleil
11-02-2004, 01:06 AM
oh wow. :stunned: that's does sound stressful.. but at least you know that what you do is important/functional/meaningful..

And for rf_ucsd: our ice hockey players are very good, you can see them soon: In april and in may:in the Czech republic is world championship in ice hockey  (I don't know if I wrote it right  )

About quantum mechanics? Oh, for me - It's something like chemistry...

musiclover
11-02-2004, 04:46 PM
quantum mechanics is really in a realm called "Physical Chemistry"...so yeah, it's a mix of the two sciences! :smug:

Angel at his table
11-02-2004, 08:25 PM
Uhhh... I heard something about quantum mechanics last year - in my physics's lesson (because I'm studying grammar school with universal intention - I donť know If you understand, in my country it's called gymnázium. This school prepares students for study at university). Thank God - this year I could choose If I want to learn something more about physics and chemistry  or about history and social science! :wideeyed:
So I´m sure that you know what I chosen :) :)

musiclover
11-02-2004, 08:31 PM
yes, I know a little about gymnasium...

it's great that you get to choose what to study right in the high school level. when i did my high school, i had to take all the classes, no matter what. in india, we had to take 10 subjects every semester/year: all 3 sciences (biology, physics, chemistry), maths, civics (government studies), 3 languages (hindi, local language, english), a class called 'moral studies', and geography. no exception...every student had to take these classes...! :dozey:

musiclover
11-02-2004, 08:34 PM
ohhh..i forgot world history and world geography...actually, those were the classes that you took as you progress through school...first local history, then next year world history, etc..

musiclover
11-02-2004, 08:36 PM
then when i came to u.s., they were surprised that i already knew english and i passed out of their world geography and world history classes by taking their tests... ohhh and they put me in geometry 'cuz they didn't think i should be allowed to take higher maths, and it was such a boring class 'cuz i'd already learned it all before... that made me dumb, though...i took it too easy...and now i'm sooo bad with math! :stunned:

Angel at his table
11-02-2004, 08:52 PM
Math... I still have it... And it's grhhhhhhh
I prefer humanities. Before two years I had Latin and now - I worry that I forgot everything :/
It's true that men are better in physics, math, chemistry... But why? It's in our genetic equipment? :)
And the languages? Now I'm having mother tongue(czech); german (8 years :stunned: ) and english - only 4 years.... :)
