Hello Coldplayers,

All of us,everyone is looking forward to Mylo Xyloto. The excitement is really huge so far and will grow more and more till the date of release...

My question is,what could happen to the new album, the new songs or the upcoming tour what would/could disappoint you ?!

To be honest from what we've heard so far, I don't think I could be disappointed! The only thing that would let me down is if they didn't play a show in Texas, which I'm sure they will! :D ( I'm not including ACL, I mean a show from their proper tour)

I'm very optimistic about this album but, if it turns out to be disappointing, I'd think that is just a less inspired episode and nothing more. I would still love the band :)

The only thing I'm disappointed with so far is the blatant rip-off-ishness of Hurts Like Heaven (ripping off All My Friends by LCD Soundsystem). They really need to tweak the lyrical structure or they'll have another lawsuit on their hands.

I think this is basically the release that will make clear to me if Coldplay are capable of reaching their potential. In my eyes Viva came through on the promise of AROBTTH and Parachutes. My hope is that MX comes through on the promise of Viva. From what we've heard so far, I think it very may well!

Really? I don't hear this...

...As far as I'm concerned, it won't be a disappointment. Every Coldplay album has tracks on it that I love, including this one, so what's not to enjoy?

Oh, and James Murphy probably cba to sue a current band for nicking something off his old band.

Autotune and sampling is already a huge turn-off as it is, but I can think of a few things Coldplay could do to further disappoint me on tracks' studio versions - "Us Against the World" with chipmunk voices, "Charlie Brown" having rubber ducky effects, Chris Martin inhaling helium before singing "Princess of China", singing "Paradise" into a repeating parrot and just recording the parrot and putting it on the album, etc. (I should shut up in case the band actually reads this and gets ideas.)

In my opinion, every Coldplay album has progressed in some way. What I mean is, they've mostly been separate pieces of work that you can distinguish between. Aka, Violet Hill must have been from VLV, Speed of Sound is from X&Y, and so forth. From what we've heard so far from this new album, I think this will continue and Mylo Xyloto will form another chapter of Coldplay's discography. One factor that would disappoint me if it didn't happen..

Feel free to agree, or disagree :)

Moving to Mars is good but his voice is kind of weird.

I honestly don't think I'll ever be disappointed with any of Coldplay's albums--individual songs, yes, but not entire albums.

But if they don't come to Kansas City someone is going to get hurt :mean:

from the songs i've already heard, i have loved every single one (apart from MM). I really love their new songs. The only thing that could dissapoint me is if they put ETIAW on the album........releasing a song 3 times?? just not a good idea.

anyways, oh and one more thing, if they don't start their tour before March next year :)

I think I will like it, I don't think it'll take over my spot as my favourite album tho. They've changed a lot these past few years, but they still have a touch of the Coldplay-ness to it. And from what I've heard so far, they still got it, so hopefully the rest of songs turn out like that. I really can't wait :wacky:

Whiny repetitive rant coming up. If you are super excited about MX, don't read.

I'm already disappointed. All the songs I've heard so far just don't do it for me, they don't compare to anything pre-X&Y. Except Major Minus live, but even then the studio version has been a disappointment.

A lot of titles are also the worst and corniest they have ever been (Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (think about it, and then the song itself lives up to its bad title), Hurts Like Heaven, even Paradise...). Let's hope they don't come up with Don't Let It Break Your Heart... That would break my heart.

None of the songs (let's not consider MM live here) live up to anything they did on AROBTTH, for example. I'm listening to Live 2003 now, and it's so brilliant I have the unbearable thought that they will never nail it like that again. I can enjoy listening to HLH, for example, but compare it to any old song and it's just an empty song/tune (Spray can soul... damnit.). I don't get the fuss about Charlie Brown. I seem to be the only one who dislikes it. People, it's just a repeated tune that's brilliant at first but I'm already tired of hearing it. The lyrics and the singing are really dull. Can't believe so many people are being so excited about this and talking about "reaching their full potential here". I'm afraid their full potential was A Rush, with top songs like Politik and Amsterdam, and that level can't be reached anymore. Don't forget the sobrety of the old songs. No needless bells and jingles and all that. The contrast between that and the new ones seems incredibly huge.

Then there's the kitschy artwork, the wannabe punk look (they're not punk, let's face it), the circus show they pull off at every festival with all the fireworks, props, confetti, ... It's as if they want to hide something's lacking in the songs. They used to be all songs, no fuss, just playing great songs as a professional alternative band compared to radiohead and R.E.M. Now they're just a pop band making hits, wanting to be up there in the charts next to Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga.

Wow, can't believe I'm being so negative on this band I love so much. Let's say Mylo Xyloto can only surprise me in a positive way, although I doubt it, and I'm afraid I will be disappointed when it's not good anyway. I appreciate the great effort the boys put into this project no matter what. Fingers crossed.

I don't want this to be their last album because I feel that once they can separate themselves from EMI, they can make something truly outstanding. I'll be surprised if MX measures up to even X&Y, sure it has a few gems, but I really don't think this album is sounding too special.

I totally understand where you are coming from. It is very different from say Parachutes. I've been listening to Parachutes and realizing how beautiful they sounded before they became famous. But I guess they have to change a little with the times, in order to top charts. It is kind of sad, that they have to change, but all artists end up doing that. I think with this era and the Viva era they really tried making things different, testing it. People went crazy for VLV, so they are probably continuing the more up-beat music theme, thinking thats what people want.

It really makes me wonder why some of you even call yourself Coldplay fans.

You are claiming they have changed their sound to "top the charts"? Really? And you say you like and understand the band?

Coldplay do their own thing. Yes, they have changed. Name me one legendary band that never changed their sound. Look at the Beatles for christ sake. They went from this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0NGPm6n18Q&feature=fvwrel

to this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42luHhrsNhg

And yes, there were thousands of "Beatles fans" crying about the change back then too.

I personally love the new stuff. I think it is inspired, unique, groovy and hard hitting. I love the old stuff too.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we should all know that Coldplay aren't the type of band that would give a toss about reaching number 1 in the charts. They have amazing integrity, they are extremely private and personal and they make music they want to make. The audacity some of you must have to suggest they are selling out is mind boggling.

Yeah, that was a really whiney rant, of pure opinion and nothing more, obviously. Clocks and Got Put A Smile Upon Your Face are good, but other than that I don't care for AROBTTH. Those jingly bells and kiddish graffiti may seem utterly stupid to you, but I have never liked Coldplay more than I do now. Not trying to be rude, but I simply couldn't disagree more. Coldplay seems to be truly growing into their own if you ask me, with live performances that just keep getting better and better.

The only thing that could disappoint me, is if all the new songs we've heard live, except UATW, are not on the album. I also would have to exclude the ETIAW EP. I don't want any of those three on there, we already have them. :D

Mylo could not possibly disappoint me. I'm down with the music, the theme , the cover, everything. I started out quite sceptic, but the new material quickly won me over. I think they are as good as they have ever been and I can only agree with their perception of themselves as a band at this point. I know they gave everything to this album, so I'm so excited to hear the results.

P.s. As someone noticed, they have kept changing since album nr 1. A rush was SO different from Parachutes and they continued like that with each album. It's incredibly hard to maintain your signature as a band while evolving on each album, yet they still manage.

You care about song titles and artwork? It's the music that matters! Sure Coldplay has changed their sound over the recent years but what band hasn't? You can't relate to A Rush of Blood to the Head only because Coldplay weren't as popular then as they are today. You should trust in Chris to make good music and not worry about the little things! A band that constantly reuses their formula and never changes would probably get boring. Who cares if Chris Martin changed Coldplay's formula to spice things up a little. Anyways, I'm not trying to make you look like the bad guy here. We all have our own opinions! :)

Unfortunately, a lot of the material I've heard so far from Mylto Xyloto is worse than all of the things I listed above.

I think that any disappointment that I experience will come from the songs themselves. I don't care if the artwork or song titles are crap as long as the music is good. That being said, I've been disappointed with 2 of the 3 songs Coldplay have officially released in studio form from the MX era so maybe it's a bad sign. Especially since those 2 songs I don't like (ETIAW and to a lesser extent Major Minus) are probably on the album and the only song I did like (Moving to Mars) will probably be left off.

Honestly I'm not expecting anything as good as A Rush of Blood to the Head or even Viva La Vida so if Mylo Xyloto is crap I suppose I won't be as disappointed as I could be.

Hey look at the bright side. With iTunes you can download only the few tracks you like, without paying for the whole album :)

No no wait, I'm going to buy the whole album anyway, and I will like it. I'm just not expecting much so I won't be disappointed. These guys are by far my favourite band, you know. ;)

Another question. Are there any people who love the new songs and are a fan since before 2005? Because I have a feeling that all of the 'old' fans hate the new material.
(I'm a fan since early 2007.)

I'll be very disappointed if Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall will be on Mylo Xyloto, and if Hurts Like Heaven won't!

i´ve been a fan since Parachutes, but became a really serious fan after Rush of Blood and started to go to concerts after X&Y, so it has been a lovely love affair, which I hope will continue to escalate :dazzled: And for the record in case anyone doubted: I LOVE the new material and think MX will become my fav Coldplay album :vuvuzela: Especially since :jonny: has finally been unleashed!

I've been a fan since I impulse-bought X&Y, loved it, bought AROBTTH and Parachutes a week later, loved those too! Then along came Viva La Vida, which was undoubtedly the best album of 2008 for me. I think they've got better with each album, personally (Parachutes is my least favourite, Viva my favourite), so I'm expecting great things from this album. Love all the songs I've heard so far (even ETIAW!) so I don't think I will be disappointed :)

I won't be disappointed at all. The band is evolving, which is very exciting. A little hoping they leave the new(EP)songs off. To make room for other new songs.

This post is depressing, because I understand completely.
It's best to let that feeling go, if you can, and be happy with whatever good songs we get. (Because I'm sure MX will have some great songs.) That works for me, I'm able to be pretty excited for the album now, without expecting anything epic.
Oh well, it might be epic. :wink3:

But er... if Don't Let It Break Your Heart really is a title, that would make me nauseous.

You know, I don't even want to read my own rant anymore. Even though I still think it's all true (with a few grains of salt), it's just depressing and I'm just going to take the album the way it is. I WILL buy it, as a whole, for sure, that's what albums are for and that's what Coldplay is good at. ETIAW made me realise that I can't love everything they do, and that was hard to take but also a relief realising that I don't like Coldplay because of Coldplay, but simply because most things they do are really great. And if I don't like the album, I'll have my fingers crossed that they change direction again into something I do like. I really don't think they've lost their grip. I won't let it break my heart, for that matter.

No, I'm a big fan of AROBTTH and Parachutes. Love these records! But I love nearly all the new songs they made so much!

I think because of the songs i wont be disappointed at all because we all know from the beginning that they will be quite experimental,so for that i`m expecting just everything what is possible :)

The biggest disappointed on earth would be if they announce after the MX-Tour in Summer 2013 that its over with Coldplay...

Ah exactly the same here. I have listened to Viva much more than any other Coldplay album. I have always loved the last album more than all the others and I think MX won´t be an exception...:jester:

That's not what I really meant. I wanted to know if there are people who are a fan for more than six years and love the new stuff. So far it's only valypan. ;)

 Exactly. Great post.
