View Full Version : [20-Sept-2011] Live On Letterman: Ed Sullivan Theater, New York City
Wickett

On September 20th Coldplay is set to perform at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City as part of the Live On Letterman show at 8PM eastern time.

I think it's interesting to note that this is 8 days after the release of Paradise (come on everybody dance with me!). Can't wait to possibly hear a live version of the song so soon after the release. Will definitely be watching this either online or on TV.
So who else is pumped?

I've already applied to win a ticket through a random radio station...not that that means anything, but I plan to try and get tickets SOMEHOW, as it's so close to me and I have nothing else currently going on in my life.
And I think there's probably a very strong chance of hearing Paradise :D. I bet they'll play it at ACL too on September 16.

ACL? I guessed I missed that announcement. Where is that being played, and what time? Actually though, I hope I don't hear it until it's released. Though, 4 days ins't too bad.

ACL is the Austin City Limits festival in Texas on September 16 (which will be livestreamed, I'm pretty sure). And Paradise is being released on September 12, so you're covered if they play it!

My radio station started a 13 day contest, where ya have to post the CP song of the day for the next 13 days.......... All expense trip for 2 and tickets to the show.:) On todays pictures they show 26 pics, and # 26 was some totally random guy with drumsticks and they said.."Pictured, Will Champion drummer of Coldplay", I had to email them and set them straight:)

Did anyone win tickets to this through coldplay.com? I didn't receive an email so guessing i wasn't lucky enough, but if someone has a ticket that's not being used - i'm a huge fan and show a lot of enthusiasm - case in point - John Mayer @ Ed Sullivan Theater in 2009
I'm the Indian guy that's playing air keyboard, plus really getting into the song like a fool - so much fun, I need to see coldplay in this venue - it's great.
John Mayer - Live on Letterman[11/19/09] - 7. Waiting on the World to Change - YouTube (around 1:30) - great concert, and great musician

^ to the two posters, i would say try and go without a ticket. It has worked for me in the past for other free coldplay shows.
How many songs are they going to play tonight? Of course I will stay up until 2am here in Denmark to watch it even though they are only going to play a few, but still.. Could be interesting to hear ;)

The newest they'll probably get is Paradise and/or Up In Flames, unfortunately. He said that they're already sort of fresh or something along those lines. Wouldn't mind the world debut of DLIBYH or Car Kids be it a song. Letterman would certainly get a lot more hits if they debuted a new song on his show.

I think the new setlist throws Chris off a bit he's used to singing a specific song next but instead he has to do a different one. Viva sounded really good tho.
I work close by so i stopped by the theater. First off how was one able to get tickets for the show. Second I went to the side of the building and I saw all the Colplday crew, security and stage materiels. I was kind of wondering if Guy would come out for a smoke or something. Also, If someone really wanted to meet them I think that would be the best spot. It would have been weird to stay untill maybe they came out or the end of the concert but I will probably go to the TODAY show when they come in October.

Not sure who watched, but it was a really good 1 hour show. Started with the usual MX/Hurts like Heaven Yellow IMP and Major Minus then went straight to Paradise Viva la Vida Charlie Brown then back to The Scientist, then finished with the usual Clocks Fix You and ETIAW, Chris fell down during it. Quite funny. The Crowd got better as the show went on and unexpectedly Chris came back and said since they were so good they would play one more song. After having issues with mics they did Us Against the World without any mics. Very nice show

For all the negative press Coldplay has been getting by fellow CP'ers....you just need to watch that UATW performance.
That was the reason I like Coldplay.
Unplugged. Spontaneous. Will popping up. All of them genuinely having a great time.
That audience seriously made up for their lacklustre performance during the first half of the show.

21-09-2011, 02:14 AM
The Reason everyone is talking about HLH and Charlie Brown studio version is...
Hurts like Heaven played at the very beginning before coldplay went on stage.
Charlie Brown at the very end now after UATW.
Just a few seconds, not the entire song.. but it was still incredible

21-09-2011, 02:15 AM

The audience are always like that. I saw Beady Eye live on letterman back in june and the front rows just stand around. The problem is that they give away the front row section to friends of friends and business people. The biggest fans go in after the vip's

The audience was terrible, but what do you want from a bunch of executives handed tickets to something they don't know a lot about and a group of people who had enough dumb luck to win contests?
The improved UATW was the absolute best part. That was probably the most beautiful as they sounded in years (and probably some of the most charming they’ve seemed live in years, when things aren’t polished to a overly-rehearsed routine). This is when they’re at their best to me—when it’s four instruments and voice, and when they do things on whims without it needing to be perfect and contributing to a larger promo campaign.
