In an interview with Absolute Radio's Christian O'Connell, Noel Gallagher confessed to being a fan of Coldplay's new material when asked of what he's enjoyed from fellow acts this year. He also stated his fondness for Arctic Monkey's new album and Kasabian's up and coming LP Velociraptor. Noel gave further details of his first solo album High Flying Birds which is to be released one week before Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto.
Here's a snippet of the interview
Christian O’Connell: And what new stuff have you heard recently that excites you, because I know you’re into your new music and champion new bands?
Noel Gallagher: I like the Arctic Monkeys album, I’ve got to say, it seems like they’re back. The new Kasabian record which is coming is pretty good. What else? Contemporary new records? Yeah, I don’t think I’ve heard one for a while to be honest, but the new… oh, some of the new Coldplay stuff is good, I’ve got to say.
Christian O’Connell: Crikey, look at that, everyone’s getting grown-up now, people are being nice to Coldplay again, everyone’s being nice to Chris Martin, that’s nice.
Noel Gallagher: I’ve always been a fan of Coldplay, I’ve liked them since I heard that track, Yellow. I do like them, the new stuff’s good I think.

Well, now that he is releasing a solo album, he has to be nice to everyone. The music industry doesn't need anymore arrogant artists and if you want to make it, you have to jump on the Coldplay bandwagon and ride with everyone else.

Look, I don't know what everyone has against Gallagher brothers, but you can't deny that Oasis was one of the greatest british bands ever, don't matter if you like it or not. I like Coldplay as much as I like Oasis, but going against Liam and Noel just because they talked shit about Coldplay (in Liam's case) is just a silly attitude. They are more than arrogant sometimes, but it's just the way they are and I don't think they are a hundred per cent serious on every thing they say.

They make pretty good music. And Noel's a great lyricist. But I would replace 'best' with 'most influential'. But besides the talented music part let's look at the Gallagher brother's shall we. Except 1) Their lifestyles/habits. When you 'handle' fame by snorting coke all day and you let drugs interfere with your music, well. How do you respect people like that? Music first. There's really no question about it. 2) As you said, Noel has a massive ego. You're right, I mean, he's probably kidding sometimes times. But you can joke around without looking like an airhead and pretending you're better than everyone when you're not. He was cocky and he rightfully paid the price. I think my favorite summation of Be Here Now is this one by Q Magazine. "So colossally did Be Here Now fall short of expectations that it killed Britpop and ushered in an era of more ambitious, less overblown music." Enter Coldplay takeover. Oasis finished off. Game, set, match to Coldplay. And there you have it. Done.

GTFO!! What? :o
Look, I don't know what everyone has against Gallagher brothers, but you can't deny that Oasis was one of the greatest british bands ever, don't matter if you like it or not...
I loved their first two albums (those were my uni days so it was perfect timing too) as did the rest of the country. After that they were still very talented (of course) but their albums were average, (I'm sure they were still good live if Liam could get out of bed :P) and commercially disappointing (not that that matters, but just saying).
I can certainly deny they are one of the greatest British bands ever!! I doubt they'd be top thirty if you consider not only sales but also popularity, influence, sustained success, long-term critical acclaim, international attention, etc etc etc. Oasis never fulfilled their potential. The Stone Roses did it in a handful of singles and one album!!
U2 and Coldplay are both top twenty, probably (without counting up to see the obvious ones). Oasis would be top thirty, probably, but only on the strength of sales.

Be Here Now failed but Noel Gallagher made no hesitation over the fact he thought it was shit. EVEN BEFORE IT WAS RELEASED he said 'the production on it is shit' and he said the only thing different for that album was that 'it had a different cover'. He massively regretted it's release and said that after the epic high of the historic Knebworth gigs the band should have taken a break for 5 years rather than jump straight back into recording completely and utterly smacked off their heads, under the excessive abuse of cocaine and alcohol. Be Here Now isn't a disaster by any means. It's alright at best but when you put it up against probably the greatest debut album ever in Definitely Maybe and the soundtrack of the 90s in (What's The Story) Morning Glory is a massive failure. The myth goes that after WTSMG that Oasis never produced a good album again. Bullshit. Don't Believe The Truth and Dig Out Your Soul were two fine albums and lightyears ahead LPs 3,4 and 5. The failure of Be Here Now never stopped Oasis but it ended Britpop once and for all. Their albums thereafter, bar their final LP Dig Out Your Soul (their most natural rock album in my opinion), was scaled down in sound and significance. That said Oasis from Definitely Maybe to Be Here Now was one of the truly great chapter's within British rock music.

Ok it's debatable but Noel's best songs (Live Forever, Listen Up, The Masterplan) really was song writing of the highest quality better than CM's best efforts. That said Noel's worst songs (I Can See A Liar, Probably All In The Mind) are so so sub standard. Coldplay haven't written a song as bad as that so that makes Chris Martin a much more consistent song writer in my opinion.
As for your comments on U2 and The Stone Roses, I know they have the British music industry to thank them for their success but I won't count U2! As for The Stone Roses, their debut is the equal of Definitely Maybe. But so is The La's in my opinion!

All I can say is. Don't Believe the Truth>All their other albums. And. You can't be the best band in the world if music isn't your priority over drugs. Coldplay is the best band in part because they know what their priorities are and their passion for music is unflinching.

Only Be Here Now was recorded with them blitzed out of their minds. Drugs stopped being a part of the process after Be Here Now. Noel Gallagher stopped them after that because he knew it had ruined the album and also the fact that he had 'tried them all'. From Standing On The Shoulders of Giants (a far superior album than Be Here Now with great lyrics, bar the cack that is Little James and I Can See A Liar) they never recorded under the influence of drugs again.

I am sorry for what I have said to Oasis fans, but when the new film of Spike Island comes out you will see the difference that The Stone Roses had...it was a cultural revolution (a very peaceful one) in Britain in 1989-1991 (when hope stopped that they would ever release the follow-up lol). They really ignited the imagination of a nation of youngsters, along with the acid-house scene and Madchester in general.
Reflecting on recent events I wonder if some of the troubles had their roots in attitudes seeded then and never addressed by subsequent governments...

I'm not going to disagree with you there. Truly great album was The Stone Roses. We've never had an album quite like it.

I've always liked Liam. He's eccentric and most of the things he says aren't in any real spite and are just harmless taunts. Most people seem to take him at face value forgetting the fact that this is the man who has said such bizarre things as 'I am the salmon king!'. Heard plenty of stories by people who have met him and they say he was one of the nicest men to talk to. One occasion a fan spotted him in London with his sons and he got talking to him with Liam introducing his children to the fan. Not many rock stars are accommodating to their fans and come across as not wanting to have the time to meet people who care about them but Liam Gallagher is a rare exception.

This! I've read that Liam is a really nice person to talk to! and I know a guy who waited at the airport when they played in Brazil in 2009 and Liam wanted to have a smoke and asked the guy if he wanted to go with him, and they went together to the smoking area and talked for some minutes!
Beady Eye is coming to Montevideo, Uruguay in November and I really want to have a talk with Liam!! :D
I know he says a lot of shit at interviews and stuff but I believe he just wants a little bit of atention :P

Coming across with such a thread is interesting; aware of the close dates of Noel's Solo and Mylo Xyloto. Not get a chance to see Oasis Live before the split is a pity.
I think there are more wildness/anger/conflicts/roughness/extreme high/low [more RNR/Blues elements] in Oasis's music expression - then the tender/sensitive living in - the whole picture looks more dramatic or complicated. Coldplay and Oasis are meant to have their own styles and paths [so as their lives], different sides of british or Brit-pop, although I dislike label music at all. But there is one thing in common for me, the melody, the first thing I am attracted to [or even behind the melody, it is actually how you express the inner world fluently, accurately and fully, presenting the "gravity" or the "distance"]. If there is sth. very unique to music as an expression form, for me, it is melody and the context.
I am impressive with I'm Outta Time.

Writing lyrics is a tough business, as many people have different ideas and standards.
To be as unbiased as possible, Chris Martin and Noel probably don't fall anywhere in the top one hundred lyricists in the past two decades.
To write a good tune is very different from writing good lyrics. Plenty of people are pleased with things that just rhyme and others like a bit more.
If you want to read some lyrics, check out Bon Iver's new album. That stuff is poetry.

Speaking to 6 Music's Steve Lamacq, he said: "I got half way through it and said to the missus, 'They are having the gig of their lives here'.
"It was pretty spectacular and the way they lit up the pyramid on the Pyramid Stage, that means no one else can ever do it now."
Noel's comments about Jay-Z and Glastonbury a few years back meant some assumed he was no longer a fan of the festival but nothing could be further from the truth:
"Glastonbury is a one off, the rest of the festivals with all the best will in the world are just big gigs in fields," according to Noel.
"Glastonbury is a festival in the truest sense, the music is secondary to your festival experience, you could go there for 3 days and not see one single band and have a great time."
Noel and his High Flying Birds are on tour this October, having just added three extra dates. Unlike Beady Eye, he will be playing Oasis songs:
"There's only 10 tracks on the album. That's only 42 minutes, so I don't have enough material to not do Oasis songs," he explained.
"I don't really see them as Oasis songs now, I wrote those songs myself, they are my songs."
However, there are a number of Oasis tracks that you won't be hearing at his solo gigs:
"I couldn't do Supersonic, Rock n Roll star or Cigarettes and Alcohol or Champagne Supernova or Lila.
Noel continued: "The more rock ones I would never attempt to do because Liam had such a great rock voice, that is a shame those songs will never be heard for the foreseeable future.
"I think it's sad because they were great stadium anthems but we've all got to move on, I might do a jazz fusion version of them."
Noel also told Lammo plenty of offers were on the table after Oasis split up for Noel to write his autobiography:
"I went for a few meetings with people out of politeness who were offering me silly amounts of money," he explained.
"I didn't want to write about my life in Oasis because my life with the Inspiral Carpets was equally as valid. It's all part of the story and the story ain't finished yet.
"You can't write an autobiography at 44. What happens to me in the next 15 years is going to be equally as interesting."

I've always liked Noel and not just because he likes Coldplay.
He just seems like a genuinely honest guy not to mention a very talented musician.

I honestly think Noel and Coldplay have some of the best lyrics out there (even if they take alot of heat around here). They might not always nessesarily be stories like Bob Dylan's lyrics, but they work better on an emotional level. I think people need to understand that there's more then one way to do these things.

YAY! Lyrics battle!
"Maybe I will never be,
all the things that I'd like to be.
Now is not the time to cry,
now's the time to find out why.
Maybe you're the same as me,
we'll see things they'll never see.
You and I: We're gonna live forever."
"Take the time to make some sense,
of what you want to say...
and cast your words away upon the waves.
Sail them home with aquiesce,
on a ship of hope today.
And as they land upon the shore,
tell them not to fear no more.
Say it loud and sing it proud today!"
"If you're needing something that I can give,
you know I'll help ya if I can.
If you're honest and said that you did,
you know that I would give you my hand,
or a sad song in a lonely place,
I'll try to put a word in for you.
Need a shoulder? Well if that's the case,
You know there's nothing I wouldn't do."
FINISH HIM!

I think so, sometimes, depends on the phase of life you are in, or we are just attracted to what we'are aware of or inside of us...some of Oasis/Coldplay songs are so forever "moment" imprinted...

Maybe this has already been mentioned: Noel Gallagher thought Coldplay were spectacular at Glastonbury 2011.
In an interview with 6 Music, Gallagher hailed Coldplay's headline set on the Pyramid Stage earlier this summer.
"I got halfway through it and said to the missus, 'They are having the gig of their lives here. It was pretty spectacular and the way they lit up the pyramid on the Pyramid Stage, that means no-one else can ever do it now,'' Gallagher said.
