Looks like that gap of non-Coldplay in September is closing!
ClearChannel has announced that they will be having a two-day live streaming event, and Coldplay will be one of the headliners. A schedule has not been released yet. It's in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.
I think this was JUST announced, so there's not many outlets reporting. But I found this, among others, and Coldplay are on the list: http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/60905375.html

Not this year though :(
But great news for people in Vegas and the ones planning to go :D

How easy would it be for Coldplay's entourage and equip to get from Vegas (23rd) to the Music Midwest festival in Atlanta (24th) in a day?
Mimixxx

They probably have two sets of the major equipment, in Arras the stage was completely set up with all the Coldplay lights, screens, lasers, circular visuals before we got in at noon (and hidden by a black curtain) and they'd been in Belgium the night before, which isn't a million miles away but far enough for there not to be enough time to get it all down at midnight the previous night and back up again by noon the next day.
Edit: Actually screw that I just looked up the distance between the two festivals and the driving time is only 2 hours  It works for T in the Park and Oxegen though :P

It's only 1960 miles (http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=las+vegas&daddr=atlanta+ga&hl=en&ll=34.813803,-99.799805&spn=18.391296,43.286133&sll=33.760882,-84.375&sspn=18.619268,43.286133&geocode=FdYQJwIdMJoi-SnRffWkgre-gDGjebPV5tXMOg%3BFQP4AgIdclf4-imNCZNpXQT1iDELYwuZL97-Zg&mra=ls&z=5), piece of cake :D

All the closer to California :). The boys should know it's a quick hour's flight from San Francisco to Vegas. Just sayin.
MartinFan
11-07-2011, 01:08 PM
Pretty easy for them to make the Atlanta festival. The flight would be about 5 hours and change non stop, and as Mich said, they most likely would have their main set already at Atlanta's festival, and MGM would have not so big of their set-up.

Arrrrg!!!! Atlanta is an 8 hour drive, and it's a festival setting which I'm not into. Vegas is 6 hour flight, plus, hotel and car..............must investigate this more!!:\ It's my hubbys BD on the 22nd, so I must work on him, he already said that would be a great BD present:sneaky:

Tracey, every radio station that is clear channel is giving away tickets. You have been lucky before! And the $289 are the highest priced tux, there are $45 available, upper level behind the stage. No thanks!!! But yeah, $289 for one night is crazy.

So typical of Vegas for tickets to be that expensive, doesn't surprise me at all....
EDIT: Guess I should rephrase that. I meant it's typical for shows like this to come out to Vegas and be this expensive. It happens a lot. Regardless, I will probably still go.

I've decided not to go :(. Tix are expensive, and the show doesn't even start until 7:30. With the huge lineup, how long will Coldplay actually play? I'm thinking they may only play 5-6 songs, definitely not a full set. If I loved all the other bands, it might be worth it to me, but I don't...have a great time if you go :)

The first day’s lineup includes Alicia Keys, Coldplay, the Black Eyed Peas, Bruno Mars, Carrie Underwood, John Mayer
Ryan Seacrest host
On Sunday, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Steven Tyler, David Guetta, along with special performances by Usher and Sting.
Thats why its so expensive

The location has nothing to do with the ticket prices. It is getting all those popular artists to play that costs so much. I know the BEP, John Mayer, Alica Keys etc aren't playing for free!
I would caution against anyone who is thinking of blowing hundreds of bucks they don't have to see this show. The sets will be radio friendly i.e. short-probably 20-30 minutes. The shows will probably be broadcast live.
The $45 seats have obstructed view. I would say looking at the seat map, you have virtually no view except for screens.

Lady Gaga, Coldplay Help iHeartRadio Fest Sell Out in Under 10 Minutes
A sold out music festival is a feat in itself; but to sell out in just 10 minutes is a feat the first ever iHeartRadio Music Festival can boast. The two-day concert, taking place in Las Vegas on Sept. 23 and 24, sold out within the first 10 minutes of being on sale to the general public this past Saturday (July 16).
The festival is the result of the official launch of the new iHeartRadio, Clear Channel's digital radio product.
The accomplishment undoubtedly owes its success to the huge amount of star power in its lineup. Gathering names from across the genres, the festival sees chart toppers in pop (Lady Gaga, the Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson), rock (Coldplay, Steven Tyler, Jane's Addiction), R&B (Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Jennifer Hudson) and country (Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts) amongst others.
Hosted by Ryan Seacrest at the MGM Grand, the festival also promises "special performances from Usher and Sting" with more to still be announced to its already impressive lineup.
Live audio and video streams of the iHeartRadio Music Festival will be available online via mobile devices at its website as well on all of Clear Channel's radio station websites.
The new iHeartRadio product will combine more than 750 broadcast radio and digital-only stations from 150 cities along with the ability to create custom stations. But before the festival kicks off its official launch, music fans can still get a chance to be a part of the action by winning tickets to the festival through summer-long giveaway promotions.

Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Kenny Chesney, Jay-Z among big names coming to IHeartRadio Music Festival
It's being dubbed the biggest live music event in radio history, which, to borrow a line from comedian Doug Stanhope, is kind of like boasting about being the world's prettiest Denny's waitress: Has there really been that much competition of late?
Debatable as the question may be, there is no doubt that the IHeartRadio Music Festival is a massive event, with 19 of the biggest names in rock, pop, hip-hop and country coming to the MGM Grand Garden arena today and Saturday.
The lineup is impressive: Rascal Flatts, Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Lopez, Jane's Addiction, Usher, Sting and more are scheduled to perform in a festival tied in with the launch of the new I Heart Radio application and website, which allows listeners to tune into radio stations from across the country as well as create their own customized station.
And those are just a few of the artists who will be here.
The following acts also will be bringing plenty of hits:
Coldplay
They say their new record, "Mylo Xyloto," is going to be more intimate, which is kind of like a nude stripper saying that she is going to get more naked somehow. Can Coldplay really bare their souls any further? Are they going to come and whisper each and every song into your ear or something? Fed-Ex you their hearts?
Well, the band is probably speaking of the record's sonics, as it's supposedly more acoustic-based than past Coldplay efforts.
Still, don't expect many twee moments live, where their arena-rock bombast is almost as outsized as their emoting. :whatever:
Lady Gaga
What is there to say about Lady Gaga that hasn't already been said, by her? She's pop music's greatest self-promoter, a megaphone of megalomania.
Honestly, though, Gaga's not that provocative of a provocateur. Her predecessor Madonna raised eyebrows -- among other things -- by releasing sex books and writhing about in videos in front of burning crosses.
Gaga, for her part, dons meat frocks and occasionally dresses like a dude. Still, her shows are undeniably fun, larger-than-life spectacles. You can try to deny as much, but we can totally read your poker face.
Kenny Chesney
He's country music's biggest contemporary star, though Kenny Chesney's toes-in-the-sand, tequila-for-breakfast jams seem way more indebted to Key West than Nashville. Dude even looks the part, with a tan shaded somewhere between George Hamilton and a leather attache case.
Like the sunny climes his tunes often evoke, Chesney, at his best, offers listeners a chance to get away from it all, transporting his boozy, blue-collar fan base to a place where life is seen through the pleasantly blurry vantage point of the bottom of a beer mug.
Carrie Underwood
She's America's sweetheart. But Snooki couldn't make it to Vegas this weekend, so Carrie Underwood, will have to do.
Underwood's the ultimate girl next door -- but only if you happen to reside beside a Barbie doll plant. She has a smile warm enough to melt the polar ice caps -- penguins hate Underwood, but we digress -- and her voice is like sweet champagne for your ear holes.
Seriously, Underwood is so damn wholesome, she makes angels seem like dirty pirate hookers by comparison.
Jay-Z
He's the king of New York. But Donald Trump doesn't rap, so Jay-Z reps the city with mogullike authority and a CEO's bullet-proof self-confidence. As such, he's the rare MC with a stage presence so commanding that he can make a big hall seem small, reducing arenas to the size of a corporate boardroom in feel.
John Mayer
OK, so forget the fact that Mayer's seen more naked starlets than a Hollywood tanning bed, the dude's enviable dating pedigree is still less impressive than his prodigious guitar chops. Pop-light piffle such as "Your Body Is a Wonderland" sometimes obscures the fact that Mayer's a crazy good six-stringer, especially when it comes to the blues. Not that the dude should ever have the blues, all things considered.

Totally worth staying up all night for, though. :D

I'm betting either The Scientist, UATW, or ETIAW.
Based on their festival setlists, though, ETIAW seems the most likely.

That was a weird line-up. Only like Kelly Clarkson (which I am not usually a fan) and Coldplay. Weird vibe in the MGM, but My Boys brought it! Best cheers of the night when they were done.
Edit: I was on the iheart link last night, so it wasn't just CP fans commenting in the ticker. I cracked up when a girl wrote about Chris: "That guy is hot. I love his arms." Haha

Jay-Z, Coldplay open iHeartRadio concert in Vegas
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jay-Z rapped about his beef with corporate radio in the monster jam "99 Problems," noting that stations won't play his hits if he doesn't do their shows. But on Friday, he played savior to radio station giant Clear Channel, headlining a two-night concert billed as the largest in radio history and a major step toward keeping the industry alive in the dot-com era.
The rapper bounced across a stage outfitted with two drum sets and two guitarists as he spit out his biggest hits and swung the two oversized gold chains hanging from his neck. It was the final performance of a night that saw confetti bombs dust the shoulders of pop sensations Kelly Clarkson, the Black Eyed Peas, Bruno Mars and Carrie Underwood. The spectacle was scheduled to continue Saturday night, with headliners Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Sting and Steven Tyler.
The star-studded lineup usually reserved for charity concerts was a marketing blitz that drew thousands to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and was broadcast to more than 10 million radio listeners across the country. Its intended beneficiary was iHeartRadio, Clear Channel's revamped free personalized music website that allows users to create custom radio stations and is meant to compete with the web's most popular online music services, especially Pandora.
"This is our coming out party," said Bob Pittman, chairman of media and entertainment platforms for Clear Channel Communications Inc. "What makes the festival so unusual is every act is a headliner."
The concert hosted by Ryan Seacrest began with the Black Eyed Peas taking the stage in a fit of confetti and pyrotechnics. Fergie, the pop group's only female member, snaked across the stage in black shorts that revealed her butt checks.
Concertgoers also waved their glowing cellphones in the air for Alicia Keys, Coldplay and rock band Jane's Addiction during the nearly five-hour concert. In a nod to Las Vegas' showgirl tradition, two feather-frocked, barely clad dancers frolicked across the stage as Jane's Addiction performed.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Mars each paid tribute to late British soul diva Amy Winehouse, with Mars performing Winehouse's "Valerie" as a brass quartet waved their horns in unison, and Martin urging the packed arena to join him in a mournful chorus of her prophetic hit "Rehab."
Fireworks later dusted the stage as Martin twirled his arms, curved his hips and then rolled over backward in a flurry of dance. A psychedelic piano joined him on stage.
Keys and Jay-Z performed the only duet of the night, a sequin-drenched performance of their hit "Empire State of Mind." Jay-Z thanked the crowd for singing along.
"I know I am on the West Coast," he said.
The mix of country, rock, rap, pop and R&B was a deliberate nod to the broad array of music available on iHeartRadio, Pittman said. The revamped website allows listeners to hear the feeds of more than 800 stations or create individualized channels that stream music along specific genres. Listeners can access 400,000 artists and 11 million tracks, millions more than Pandora.
Pandora launched in 2005, offering revolutionary computer formulas that create personalized song lists based on each users' tastes. It has grown to more than 30 million listeners each month.
Clear Channel is not about to cede its web listeners to another company. When it announced the iHeartRadio revamp, it had about 27 million listeners per month, just short of Pandora's reach. This month, iHeartRadio climbed to 30 million listeners each month, Pittman said. In all, Clear Channel reaches 237 million listeners each month over traditional radio airwaves, ensuring that the company will be able to promote the site to millions of potential consumers.
Clear Channel will also turn to the music site to identify emerging artists ready for traditional radio and get user feedback.
"It's a way for us to discover more artists," Pittman said.
The beta site launched Sept. 8. This weekend's two-day festival marks the site's grand opening.
It's unclear whether the multi-day concert will drive listeners to iHeartRadio. Tickets sold out in 10 minutes.
Livio Lippetti, of Huntington Beach, Calif., traveled to Las Vegas to see Bruno Mars and the other headliners Friday. He said he had never heard of the website, despite advertisements promoting the site flashing over the stage after each act. He said he prefers Sirius XM Radio Inc.'s satellite service to web stations.
"I'm all about XM," he said.

My review:
I have been to two other festivals this year(Lollapalooza and ACL) and this definitely wasn't your typical festival. Each band/artist only performed for 30 minutes each and the time seemed to fly by. When Coldplay hit the stage, I was so excited. Let me say this, the crowd seems more into the other acts than Coldplay( a lot of people were really into Jay-Z) The boys did well and tried to get the crowd involved, I think the biggest reaction came from the crowd when they played "Clocks" and "Fix You" even Viva in my opinion did not have as big as a response as i'm used to but it may have been where I was standing. I was one of the only ones standing up in my section and I absolutely loved every minute they were on stage. It was strange to not hear certain songs and the fact that they started with Viva but they pretty much just played their biggest radio hits so I understand why they played the songs they did. I still absolutely LOVE Paradise live. Although, they only played for 30 minutes, it was worth the money because I saw a lot of great acts I have been wanting to see. Here are some pictures I took, they didn't come out the greatest but some came out pretty decent:

Finally home after the trek to Vegas and back. I enjoyed the whole show! But the crowd definitely wasn't a Coldplay crowd. Like Lauren, I was the only one standing in my section afer Viva - now really, can you imagine not standing for Fix You? Chris worked hard to get people into it; at one point I thought he was going to dive into the crowd but he just leaned over to high five the people right up front. It did feel strange to hear the songs in such a different order, starting with Viva. (It also felt funny to hear "99 Problems" from Jay-Z without Coldplay immediately following!) The revolving stage made it a quick change between acts which was great; while Ryan Seacrest was talking I did a double take as Chris was wandering around the stage behind him and I realized the boys were all on stage casually getting set up!
"Paradise" haters, all I can say is wait until you experience the song live. It is sweeping and majestic and all four of the boys put their best into it. Will post photos and video in the next day or so.
Next time, though, I probably won't travel over 1700 miles for six Coldplay songs. :D
