Good afternoon. We're pleased to announce that Coldplay will headline the new RXP TĀKLIBERTY FESTIVAL (http://www.1019rxp.com/takliberty/index.aspx), which has just been announced by New York radio station ROCK 101.9 RXP (http://www.1019rxp.com/). The one-day, two-stage festival will take place on Sunday September 18th at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holdmel, NJ.
Tickets for the general public will go on sale at 10am on Friday, June 24. They will be available at www.livenation.com, charge by phone 800.745.3000, select Ticketmaster locations or the PNC Bank Arts Center box office. A presale for members of the station’s free Rock Republic (http://www.1019rxp.com/Contests/Register.aspx?ContestID=136806) online program will run from Tuesday, June 21 until Thursday, June 23rd.
The festival will also feature performances from Richard Ashcroft, Two Door Cinema Club, The Kooks, Graffiti 6 and The Pains Of Being Pure at Heart.

If so, you should have a confirmation email from when you registered first. If you haven't deleted it that is.
I don't think anything will happen if you register again with a new name.

I hate how they announce a show and only give us 3 days to get the money. Also, I didn't see this one coming at all. I thought they had their schedule locked already.
I just booked a week of fun with my best friend in Atlanta during that week :(

Ah! I don't know what to do. I go to school near Baltimore, but I live (my home) about an hour from where this festival will be held. I told myself I'd do whatever to see Coldplay if they happened to come anywhere near me this year, but did NOT think they actually would. So surprising. Anyways, now I don't know what to do because I don't know how I'd get back to school for classes on Monday. Also, why won't they tell us the price? :[ DAMN YOU COLDPLAY. I need more notice than this.

Oh god...$200. I can't. But I'll have to for Coldplay.
Also, this may be a REALLY dumb question, but I don't understand the whole presale thing. I thought festivals were kind of general admission or first come-first serve? Are we thinking that it will be otherwise?

Yes, north Jersey. :nice:
I'm backwards- during the tail end of the Viva tour I was an extreme fangirl, but to be honest I haven't listened to Coldplay in about 3 months. . .
I'm still more of a Muse fangirl (ever since I saw them live :dazzled:) but I'm totally psyched for this. :D I've waited so long to see them :dazzled:
Aw, if price is an issue maybe ask for it to be a birthday+Christmas gift? (if you celebrate Christmas :P) And on top of that a "I've done well in school so far" gift? And always offer to pay a bit of the price. Parents love when their children are willing to be responsible like that. :P
As for school, are you worried about homework? or being tired the next day and having to skip? As for the second concern, it's not too bad- I saw Muse on a Sunday, got home at 1 in the morning, and was fine for school. :P First concern, I don't really know either but at the moment I'm not going to worry about it. :awesome:

It's got a cumbersome name, but the lineup is pretty slick. NYC radio station WXRP's TaKLIBERTY (pronounced "take liberty") festival will bring Coldplay, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Richard Ashcroft, the Kooks, and other contemporary rock bands to the PNC Bank Arts Festival in Holmdel on September 18. There'll be music on two stages, and the radio station promises that there'll be more big names announced in coming weeks.
So far, TaKLIBERTY has a distinctly Glastonbury-like feel to it. Most of the bands committed to playing the festival are from the British Isles. Coldplay, the most popular of the TaKLIBERTY bands, will arrive in advance of its as-yet-unnamed fifth album; "Every Teardrop a Waterfall," the lead single, is currently climbing the American charts. Richard Ashcroft was the frontman of the Verve, a Northern English group whose "Bittersweet Symphony" was an enormous, if mostly unacknowledged, influence on Coldplay's cinematic sound. The Kooks, a Brighton-born pop-rock band with catchy songs, have never had a big stateside hit, but they've reached the U.K. Top 20 five times. Graffiti6 is a London singing duo; Two Door Cinema Club is a talented electropop combo from Northern Ireland. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, the one American act on the bill so far, plays music heavily informed by the New Music Express' much-venerated C86 compilation.
Tickets for TaKLIBERTY go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. through ticketmaster.com. Members of WXRP's online Rock Republic program can take advantage of a presale that begins on Tuesday.

So exciting!!!
Okay, so we're all going to check at midnight, but if it's not up then, we're assuming it'll be at 10 AM tomorrow on that festival presale link (and we're assuming that that weird window that pops up with the username/password thing will disappear by then), right?
if you just type the url into your browser instead of clicking on the link, the window disappears :nice: :)

Ahh I see, thanks! That says VIP tickets though :\ They're probably more expensive than regular tickets.
PNC Bank Arts Center, from wikipedia :nice: :
The PNC Bank Arts Center is a modern amphitheatre located in Holmdel Township, New Jersey, USA. About 17,500 people can occupy the amphitheater; there are 7,000 seats and the grass area can hold about 10,500 people. Concerts are from May through September featuring 35–45 different events of many types of musical styles. It is ranked among the top five most successful amphitheatres in the country. It is one of two major outdoor arenas in the New York City Metropolitan Area, along with Nikon at Jones Beach Theater. Like the Nikon theater, the PNC Bank Arts Center is managed by Live Nation.

Oh, ok. :\ I was hoping that that was referring to them being sold as presale.
Well, for Muse I bought my tickets a month after they went on sale and I still got (crap) seats in the 13k capacity Prudential Center, so I think I should be ok 2-3 days late for a 17k show.

My plans were to go all day once I got the tweet this morning...til I just got back to my computer tonight and looked up the details and saw the final price is $127 :freak:
I still have to think about it, but that's really a crazy price, even though I'd love to see TDCC again and The Kooks for the first time. We'll see, but damn, I went to another small festival in a very similar venue in Maryland two months ago, and the tickets were $55, so I thought this would be similar, but I guess not .
If I wasn't seeing them at Oxegen I might say screw the price and go, but because this is Coldplay and I KNOW they're going to tour again at least twice over...I'm starting to think I won't spring for this. Le sigh.

Seeing this just makes me so angry. . . it's so unfair for the fans to sit there, hoping for good tickets at a FAIR price only to see them snatched up by scalpers.
And that's so overpriced. . . I'm sorry such good seats fell in the hand of scalpers. . .
It's just not gonna happen for me....thank you Christina, hopefully you Porfesssa got some good tickets and i agree

You just have to keep trying, don't take the first pair they give you, they're usually shitty. :\
I actually got a refund on the first tickets that I got, they were in section 101 row lke s or something, and the seats were all the way to the left..
On my phone I found tickets for section 103 Row D seats 109-111, so it's like isle seats that are closer to the stage.

My seats are in row V section 104. Any way that I could snag closer ones (without paying doubel the price that I originally got them for!) or should I just give up on the idea?

^ My advice to you is to just try to get them now, you dont have to buy them, just keep trying and see what you get. if you get anything better, then buy those tickets and return the other ones. It's easy, you just call live nation and they will refund you your money.

keep trying to get closer ones! More will be released on friday. You can return the first pair if you find better ones, and if they don't let you for whatever reason, you can always sell them on stubhub or something, good luck!!

Living in Holmdel where I can hear the concerts from my house, I am insanely jealous that I will probably miss my favorite band perform in my town while I start college in Virginia this fall. I have to make it somehow! There are still some pretty decent seats remaining for the presale which I just found out about today.
I really like this venue (although I'm biased because I see this place all the time) but I really wish the lawn was in front of the seats because with the concerts I've been to here, the people in the lawn are so much more lively and into the music. Everyone sitting in seats seem to be so dead.

So Much For That WRXP-Sponsored Coldplay Show In September
Hey, remember the RXP Tākliberty Festival, the WRXP-sponsored day of alt-rock at the PNC Bank Arts Center that was announced last Monday and going to have Coldplay as its headliner? Well, it's been canceled "due to unforeseen circumstances." Which actually isn't all that surprising given that the station sponsoring the day was sold last Tuesday to someone who is reportedly looking to ditch rock from the station's playlist altogether.
Last week WRXP was one of three stations sold by Emmis Broadcasting (which, locally, also owns Hot 97) to a company called Merlin Media; it's headed up by Randy Michaels, a former bigwig at Clear Channel who was most recently forced out of heading up the Tribune Company among allegations of the grossest kinds of misconduct. Michaels actually came up as a DJ who made a name for himself by, as this 2001 Salon piece on Clear Channel notes, "farting on the air, cracking jokes about gays and tantalizing listeners with descriptions of "incredibly horny, wet and ready" naked in-studio guests." And, of course: "[He] pulled in big ratings wherever he went." He's a big fan of music-free radio formats, and is apparently planning on flipping his new toys so he can play with them his way—two in Chicago, one in New York—to news/talk outlets; shortly after the sale broke, Time Out Chicago's media reporter Robert Feder claimed that Q101, a worthy if sometimes-mockable Chicago alt-rock stalwart, would flip sometime within 45 days of the June 21 deal. It's not too much of a stretch to assume that the similar speculation about WRXP is correct and that the station will change formats before the RXP Tākliberty Festival's scheduled date of September 18, hence the cancellation.
WRXP is definitely a flawed attempt to make rock a viable radio format, one that couldn't figure out exactly what it wanted to be and as a result its playlist was spread a little too wide for anyone to tune in steadily, let alone religiously. (The goodwill inspired in this listener by hearing "Hunger Strike" on the radio, for example, would quickly dissipate as soon as 311's "Homebrew" started; surely there are listeners on whom the reverse reaction would work, or would work when AC/DC, Mumford & Sons, Live, etc., etc. were introduced into the mix. The iPod era, of course, only accelerates the impatience.) When it started in 2008, I thought it was a noble experiment because it was incorporating artists like Santogold and Franz Ferdinand into its playlist alongside the likes of the Who and Springsteen; after all, there were people whose record collections mirrored these playlists out there, especially in New York. That forward-thinking element seemed to dissipate over time, however, and more post-grunge stalwarts that are otherwise absent from radio in the Big Apple crept into the playlist, resulting in the whiplash/backlash-inducing playlists the station now puts forth.
Whether the original version of WRXP would have worked in a pre-digital music era, or would have eventually petered out the way WLIR did, is up for debate. Now, we're left to wonder how this shift to no doubt "edgy" talk will work out in relation to the Free FM experiment of all those years ago. Anyone get David Lee Roth on the phone yet?
[NB: that Salon piece is pretty depressing reading as far as realizing how much the cultural outrage meter has shifted over the past 10 years. Like, across the board.]

I know. Beyond frustrated. It seems like it obviously wasn't Coldplay at all though, which is good.
Still, HATE HATE HATE THIS.
Can't believe they would cancel a festival which was ALREADY announced and had people invested in it. It's just so strange that the "flip" in people in charge is to blame for this--that the new person would cancel something so big, that would (I assume) bring a good amount of money and attention to the station with someone as big (and wonderful) as Coldplay.
Disappointment.
