Honestly, this is one of my favorites by far. It's really different. I'm going to relate it to Strawberry Swing because I felt like that song was the odd-ball on Viva la Vida. Overall, I love this one.

Q. Hey Oracle!

I watched the live stream of Rock Am Ring on Saturday and loved all of it, the boys reminded me why they're my favorite band in the world. All the new songs are great.

I know that someone has said that there will be "no video" for ETIAW. So I guess my question is two-fold. First, why not? And second, does this mean that it isn't the lead single from LP5 (or even will be on it)? Thanks Oracle, you rock!

As you rightly notice there is no video - at the moment. That doesn't mean that whoever told you there'll be "no video" is correct. There MAY be a video. There may not. Oooh I'm annoying aren't I? It must appear that everything is shrouded in secrecy right now but it's not meant to be.

I just want to clear up that no album track listing has been announced so whether ETIAW appears on the album remains to be seen and is not for me to speculate upon. Until the album is mastered and totally ready it would be pointless.
ETIAW is a single. It's irrelevant whether it's a lead single or not as the album is still a while off. A single does not have relate to an album or appear on one, it can stand alone (as Christmas Lights did) but that doesn't mean that it will or won't.

The bit after the solo synth break is SO intense! :D There's that funky electronic scream and then the massive Ancient-China-sounding drums kick in at full force (2:19 in the first video). Also, the main melodic line - the bit that Chris sings after the aforementioned synth-scream - reminds me of Wake Up by Arcade Fire. And that's a very good thing. :P

I have to say, I'm looking forward to the studio version of this song more than any other of the new ones. Even though they're all great.

I would love if they did that, but at the same time, it doesn't seem like something they'd do, they really care about when and what they release, if any of them are displeased, they wouldn't want to. Meh, agreed Major Love. :/ I kind of think a lot of the synth melody would sound better as Jonny playing it on the guitar, but whatever. As much skepticism I have right now, it's much overwhelmed by how much I love this song, and I don't even know a single lyric yet!

Out of the two over-produced songs I've heard from the LP5 era (ETIAW and PoC), PoC definitely is WAYYYY better-- It's WAYYY more catchy, and WAYY more creative.

I seriously hope the studio versions of the new songs we've heard aren't completely screwed up, like what they did with Major Minus. Major Minus's studio version is cool, but when the live version blows it completely out of the water, something's wrong. VERY wrong.

This 2:20ish mark has been mentioned many times. I don't think it is what Coldplay has showed in their previous composition/performance either. As a Chinese, yes, it is very natural to me and it might not be personal taste/feeling; I mean, the melody itself has a strong imprint for a kind of life the historical martial art heros has lived - Robinhood like spirit following the bigger law of Justice. Martial Art itself might not be as what you see with eyes [and it is pathetic to see it from voilent attacting aspect although you can], if you feel it with your soul, the essence is how to protect a home-like harmonious peace when all the negatives [either in physical or emotional etc.] offend or invade, creating conflicts/destruction/chaos. I do wonder where the inspiration comes from?...

But others may match that with their own culture/folk oriented melodies.

Last point. The reason why it might sound as traditional Chinese melody, is because, there are only 5 notes in that part [in simple numberic form, 1-2-3-5-6 [full scale note; pre-Tang names of the five notes of the pentatonic scale, corresponding roughly to do, re, mi, sol, la] other than the worldwide modern one 1-2-3-4-5-6-7]. If a song is composed only by these 5, no matter how it is sequenced or rhythmed, it brings out a certain kind of energies. Maybe it is true as other "note sets". It is easy to test out. I have another similar feeling song [well known in China] in mind when I firstly heard this part as well. If you are interested in checking out [but the beginning part starts quite late, almost from the middle]:
