Good setlist but no lij.. In sure they'll play when it during longer sets on their upcoming tours.. Festivals setlists are always shorter

I think the setlist is the best we could've reasonably hoped for. Princess of China, maybe.
People need to realize that Coldplay aren't going to play stuff like Spies, Amsterdam, Square One, etc. anymore. We should feel blessed to see the likes of Shiver, Everything's Not Lost, and Shiver a dozen years after they were first performed.

Loved the concert!
Tried to write down the setlist, but I'm not sure if it's correct:

Major Minus
Lost
The Scientist
Shiver
Violet Hill

Everything's not lost
Us against the world - Chris messed up xD

I think U2 was very obviously better than Coldplay in this particular show. U2 were at the top of their game, Coldplay...wasn't.
I thought the general consensus was that U2 tried but failed (mainly because of Bono's massive ego). That's how I took it - and many others on twitter, facebook, local rags etc...

Lots of pretty colours.
Only 1 song from X&Y and 2 from VLV. Off course a normal set would be longer, but still a good list.

So I TOTALLY screwed up, I just got on my computer at around 5:30 US time, and I read somewhere that the concert would be on at 9pm, so I kept on thinking that was my time. I log onto veetle and as soon as it gets started, the band is taking their bows and they walk of stage :( I feel like crying right now, does anyone know where I can find the whole concert recorded online right now, or if someone online is replaying it? I truly can't believe I missed out on this. Thanks.
VH1 is airing the whole show later...not sure if it't 9 or 10, but someone on here will know.

Chris just can't sing HURTS LIKE HEAVEN, it's really bad and ETIAW is just an average song , with all effects and Chris jumping and oohh and ahh, they can do it better judging by Shiver, Fix you, beautifull Trouble etc

Did you watch the actual stream? Did you see how into it the crowd was? U2 had the whole place in the palm of their hand. Personally, I thought it was brilliant. Edge's guitar sounded amazing, Bono's voice was great (haven't heard With Or Without You sung that well in quite awhile) and it was just an overall top-notch performance.

That was really good. It showed real class and showed them all back at top form in their home turf.
Absolutely adore that it was a good mix of all eras (except X&Y because well, that was a figment of our imagination *bitter about it*) and that even the new songs went down with quite a decent crowd and viewer reaction (Charlie Brown was trending after being played with a generally positive reception).
Chris was just Chris as per normal. Absolutely adorable and so abashed all the time. Oh and messing up, could that be any more endearing (obviously not)?
This definitely brings back out the Coldplayer dominant side in me, and I can't wait for the album and the successive tour. And just because this was such a brilliant performance, even ETIAW didn't grate on me as much as it normally would.

The 100,000 strong arent all hardcore fans like us. Sure we know the lyrics to Hurts Like Heaven, Major Minus, Us Against the World and Charlie Brown. But they wanted sing a longs in there. I felt they killed the set a bit in the middle, Clocks should have been in there not the Encore.
Other than that, Im even more depressed I didnt get tickets, fly over and go!

I could feel them being soo nervous. I think those "Glasto is so important" thing just put too much pressure on them. They were not at home on this stage and did not feel at all comfortable, trying to win the crowd over again and again. Those mistake during UATW proves that, I think. At Rock am Ring they enjoyed themselves and rocked the place, at Glasto they were kinda stiff. At least I felt that.
The show was great, nevertheless. I liked fireworks and lasers, and walking man learned a couple of new moves (or I just didn't notice them earlier?). Clocks, GPASUYF, Viva and Charlie Brown were awesome, loved the whole set.

I watched it live in my front room via good old Aunty Beeb. I actually texted a few mates that were there as well to see if they thought the same, and they confirmed it. They (and others around them) were very let down by the performance. They thought Edge was excellent as usual, but Bono was just a bit of a tit.

People need to realize that Coldplay aren't going to play stuff like Spies, Amsterdam, Square One, etc. anymore.
Why not?
Don't get me wrong, I am certainly not one of those fans who expects a "Greatest Hits" set, in fact I applaud bands who almost deliberately f*ck with their fans by playing b-sides, obscure tracks and omit the hits (which let's face it, only the casual fans are interested in).
But at a "proper" Coldplay show, I don't think it would do the set any harm to re-introduce tracks such as those described above.
Imagine if they added the likes of "High Speed" to the LP5 tour, that would be SICK!
Odvan

So they played the same set. Perhaps they just want keep jokers in the pocket until proper album release? MTM suggest new album could be great.

exactly what i felt! they were very very nervous...fix you and charly brown were the only sony without any mistakes. It was a good show. They are the best band and with fix you, charlie brown and some other songs they proved it...but they were not so confident like at rock am ring, germany...on every things not lost they could win the crowed in the end! but all in all it was fantastic...they always want to be perfect...this is very hard...they are still the best band in the world!

I read about technical problems, but find the setlist amazing.
I was watching TV for half of the show so I listened to the gig via BBC, Radio 2 - then watched via Justin, but after some minutes it was stuck ("to protect my computer" - I went out and then in several times - but I got tired of this and chose to be on here only).
Thanks akkku for posting a good link so that I could see the last part of the gig from the end of Clocks and until the end.
So now I look forward to the videos - and maybe a broadcast of the show tomorrow. I saw U2 from yesterday just before Coldplay came on.

Just a brilliant show,Thanks a lot guys !!!!
I really can imagine how difficult it is for Coldplay to create a setlist. Thats why i made my personal setlist. It would contain (not in order):
The new songs +
For sure:
The Scientist - Clocks - Trouble - Talk - Yellow - In my place - Politik - Violet Hill - Viva la Vida - GpasuyF - Fix you
These songs are must haves, for me !
Not sure about:
Speed of sound - Lost - The Hardest Part - Cemeteries of London - Lovers in Japan - Dont panic - Death and all his friends(i just love that song) and maybe - What If -
Just my impressions !:) And no, i wouldnt miss Shiver to be honest...

Tell us what Chris and Will say at the interview on BBC 2! Please!
Not much really. Chris looked exhausted as well as having a sore throat. Basically just said they were humbled and thanks to everyone for watching. Talked a bit about the light show at the end and how Glasto is their second home, but in general they just looked knackered. Understandable really - he really throws himself around on stage and bounces into the next track right after the last one finishes.

What an outstanding, perfect performace.
Everything in their live performances that I love they did. The perfect end to Shiver, the "Jonny Boy" before the riff in Major Minus, the crowd and ascension at the end of "Everything's Not Lost".
The older songs they played from Parachutes were stunning; the setlist was perfect. The stage itself looked fantastic.
It was mind blowing. Epic.

Basically...
- Chris looked overwhelmed and so happy. Will was cool and collected and looked really chuffed
- He told a story about having braces which his mum forced him to get in 1997. he was heading back from Exeter to London on a train and loads of Radiohead fans came on to the train, and he was saying he had to hide his face the whole way. "I thought, "I'll never headline Glastonbury""
- He ran off with his beer (with ginger in it!) because he wasn't quite ready to re-watch and assess the performance.
Excellent interview, oh and LP5 is 85 minutes long as it stands. It is their "summer project" to finish it off.

I loved the show so much! I loved that they played Shiver and Everything's not Lost! Very nice touch to play those songs again on Glasto after not having played them for so long, and especially Shiver's been requested so much, and I don't know how long ago it was that they played it in full, with drums etc. So that was great!
And I thought this was one of the best performances of Fix You I've seen, Chris just really hit the notes so well! Wow, that was awesome. And the light-show was crazy (and HLH is really so much better when it's dark, because I loved the lasers and fireworks, and at Pinkpop it was light at the start so that took away a lot of the magic unfortunately).
And I'm happy they didn't play Trouble, just because it feels more special now that they played it on Pinkpop

:)
I thank you and other coldplayers for posting a summary of the interview on BBC, Radio 2.

I was excited all day to watch this online. I was planning as far back as last year to go to Glasto, but money interfered and prevented me from making the trek. So I figured watching with my sound system cranked was the next best thing.
Yes, they did look nervous. However from Politik on they killed it. Today I fell back in love with Coldplay. I was enjoying it, then my favourite song Politik came on, and the notes Jonny added to the solo were, AMAZING.
They woke the crowd up with Viva La Vida, and Charlie Brown has already become a classic. Watching this I acted like I was there, dancing and singing my lungs out. It brought back so many good memories of the Coldplay shows I've been to.
Festivals are notorious for being plagued with technical problems, its to be expected with so many different bands setting up into the same sound board in such short a time, as well as no real soundchecks.
Coldplay has asserted themselves as the big band of our time, and with U2 fading off into irrelevance, they are poised to become the biggest band in the world, this show, the new album and tour will either cement that, or keep Coldplay on the top of tier two in the music world.
Much can be made of them not including a U2 cover, Im sure they mulled over it for quite awhile. They are huge fans, but they decided to do what they knew and not what was expected. I did think Jay-Z would come out for his verse in Lost! but they likely wanted it to be about them and their show. Jay would have been freaking cool but would have taken away from the overall specialness of the night!
U2 covering Coldplay shows that they acknowledge that they are huge and the new kids in town. It was Bono showing mutual respect, we all already know Chris respects them, no need to pet their egos.

Times like this makes me wish I had a fancy TV like my friends so I can really enjoy these types of shows when I can't be there in person. So many of the songs were great and I was singing along to most of them, except ETIAW. My son even noticed (at 5) that I don't like the song much and he says to me "Yeah I change my mind, I really don't like it."
Maybe it'll grow on me, but I dunno...at least the drums are a great way to close out the night.

Yeah, it was obvious that they were nervous. You could tell through the first few songs, Chris was SO nervous. Jonny was too. Guy and Will looked better. I really thought this would be the best concert ever, but, maybe the best concert ever is the one I go to when they start the tour. Who knows? I just hope what's best, lies ahead. I really hope we didn't pass it. Anyway, I rate it an 8, because anything Coldplay gets an automatic 7. I just wish Hurts Like Heaven was better, that's my favorite new song. Well, the 28th is next!!!

But seriously, this was amazing. Couldn't agree more when it was said that watching it on VH1 was just an entirely different experience than it was watching it on the live stream. Simply, they were amazing and I couldn't help but feel so proud throughout the entire show. It seemed like they were all so incredibly happy to be there which was lovely. As was Wonderful World which almost made me cry it was so adorable.

I just watched the show with my mom and my grandma. Even my Grandma enjoyed it, and she doesn't like rock music! (usually)
I think my mom has a new favorite band, lol. She didn't know who Chris Martin was, and she kept on asking me questions about the band members.
I was blown away! I was a bit disappointed in the first few songs, because Chris's mic was turned down so low...I could barely hear him. I'm glad that they adjusted it after the commercial break. :)
This just makes me more excited for the new album! New songs sounded great live, even ETIAW has grown on me. :) Can't wait to grab a ticket when they go on sale!

Yeah, they definitely seemed nervous.
Chris's voice was going at the end as well. It started cracking, and he was having to scream the high notes. It still didn't sound awful, though.
I disagree that it wasn't a good live performance. I felt some of the songs (old ones) came through better than when I saw them live 2 years ago! I just was disappointed they didn't play Glass of Water.

I think the performance was simply amazing.. So what if they seemed a bit nervous, that's one of the things I love about our boys, even after 4 amazing albums, millions of copies sold and thousands of concerts played over the course of over 11 years, they're still trying to impress us, they're still worried they're just not quite good enough, and that my friends is what makes me sure the best is yet to come. To me it shows humility, and that's why I love Coldplay and always will.

Coldplay at Glastonbury 2011 – review
http://static.guim.co.uk/static/106209/common/images/star-ratings/content/4.png
It's not easy being the boy band U2 when the real thing played the night before. Guitarist Jonny Buckland got his apologies in early, telling the NME last week: "We hope U2 do a B-sides set with no lights".
Before they walked onto the Pyramid stage, Coldplay were Glastonbury 2011's forgotten headliners. U2's mere presence on Friday generated intense debate and booking Beyoncé for Sunday night induced squeaks of delight. Yet a band whose last album, Viva La Vida, sold almost 7 million copies in 2008 somehow slipped into the background.
But that level of success is no fluke. Coldplay are a light, bright pop act, specialists in the kind of non-specific, one size fits all emotion that plays well in front of the Pyramid stage. Crucially, they're also on home turf, this being their third headline appearance in nine years. It doesn't hold the same fear for them that it did for four men from Dublin.
So after the symphonic intro music and fireworks, no one cares that the opener, new track Hurts Like Heaven, is basically a Walt Disney version of Arcade Fire's Keep the Car Running. Besides, it's only there to kill time until the audience have made it through the bog. What follows sets the mood properly, with shameless crowd-pleaser Yellow followed by In my Place and not long after, Scientist. It works, too.
In the end they needn't have been quite so modest. Sure, they benefited from facing an audience who'd spent an afternoon in the sun, and who were still on a high from a spectacular Elbow performance, but they're also a kinder, more welcoming proposition than U2.
So it didn't matter that they needed two shots at new song Us Against the World, or that it was a bit sappy. As with their earlier European festival performances, the whirling Charlie Brown was the standout new song, a definite advance on the still forgettable Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, even if the lyrics were guff about "running wild" and "glowing in the dark."
And despite front-loading the set, they kept plenty in reserve, Viva La Vida winning the prize for most joyous sing-a-long, at least until Clocks kicked off the encore.
A victory that few predicted. Who knew a band this big could sneak up on people?

As with their earlier European festival performances, the whirling Charlie Brown was the standout new song, a definite advance on the still forgettable Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, even if the lyrics were guff about "running wild" and "glowing in the dark."
It's like they're reading my mind.

I don't get how Chris fucked up "Us Against the World"
The only thing I heard that was wrong was Will sang "Like a river to a rainbow" and Chris started laughing... :laugh3:
I'd call stopping the song to re-do a verse a 'fuck-up'.But it was a typical charming Coldplay fuck-up and everyone smiled and laughed!! I thought it was the most 'human' part of the whole gig, lol.
Had to listen to the whole thing over...it was just THAT amazing!! :D

NME's Review of Coldplay at Glastonbury 2011
Who: Coldplay
Where and When: Pyramid Stage, Saturday.
Vibe: Playing the new material from their forthcoming fifth studio album, including 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall', Coldplay's third go as headliners at Worthy Farm seemed to be a test for Chris Martin and co. With a set that included the big guns 'Yellow' and 'In My Place', as well as most fans' first chance to hear the new tracks live, they pulled off a great Saturday night headline set. And it was done without too much Chris Martin cheese.
Best bit: 'Yellow'. At Glastonbury. Just brilliant.
Low point: The lager-spilling, cigarette-burn-enducing, loud-mouthing idiots that we were stood next to for most of it.
Banter: Chris Martin: "Beautiful, wonderful Glastonbury, thank you for having us, we're glad the sun came out for you and you stuck around to see us."
Verdict: Emily Eavis said that Chris Martin would "do anything for Glastonbury" after he convinced Beyonce to play Worthy Farm this year - and you could see how much the festival means to the band during their live show. A great set of the classics and some of the new tracks, and not too many Chris Martin cheese moments/air punching/odd marching band outfits. Even the doubters seemed to enjoy it.
Rating: 9/10

Coldplay Play Third Headline Slot at Glastonbury (Spinner review)
In this year's battle of the Glastonbury headliners, the old guard vs newcomers roles were reversed. U2 may be the elder statesmen of communal stadium rock, but they were wet behind the ears new boys when it came to headlining Worthy Farm. Coldplay, one of many bands in U2s stadium wake were the band to be contended with here. On Saturday night they took to the Pyramid Stage as headliners for the third time.
Chris Martin and co.'s strong relationship with the festival started in 1999 -- they only headlined in 2002 after they agreed to play the local village fete the year before to help festival organiser Michael Eavis out of a tight spot. So you could have been forgiven for thinking headlining wouldn't have given them too many butterflies in the stomach, but then there was the spectre of U2's bloody-minded debut the night before; fierce, and with something to prove.
With fireworks wrupting at their entrance, Coldplay alunched into new song 'MX,' a song that bears more than a little of the urgent DNA of Arcade Fire.
The start was a mix of old and new, with 'Yellow' rubbing shoulders with another new cut, 'Major Minor' and 'Lost!' and 'The Scientist' leading to a particularly grungey but splendid 'Shiver,' with Martin saying at the end, "That was the first song we ever played at Glastonbury." Maybe Coldplay had been taking some notes from U2 in how to suff up their back catalogue. 'Politik', too, was particularly loose-limbed and lusty.
The question everyone was asking beforehand was would Martin's mate Jay-Z make it to the stage. After all, his missus Beyoncé is playing Sunday. TV footage showed them singing along to 'Viva La Vida' in the pit. That's one thing U2 didn't seem to have...
Coldplay are sometime half-jokingly referred to as the Pyramid Stage House Band. After a night which cemented their special place around the Glastonbury table, expect another Eavis invite soon.

Coldplay are red hot at Glasto
COLDPLAY are to festivals what Michael Eavis is to beards. The cynics can say what they like - Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman belong at the top of the bill on the Pyramid Stage. They know how to do it - a nod to Jay-Z before they come on with 99 Problems blaring out, some fireworks, a new song then BANG... Yellow. The band have rehearsed like demons to be ready for the gig. And it showed. They are always tight live, but this was special. The paper butterflies blew into the crowd during In My Place - with over 100k in tthe audience in full voice. It was beautiful. Chris said: "Forgive us for playing some new songs. One day they will be your favourites."
The new songs fiitted in seamlessly, but the big hits sent Worthy Farm into orbit. U2 might have 30 years experience - but there is no doubt their natural suitor is already in place. Chris said: "Thank you for giving us the best job in the world." Not a problem.

Coldplay wow Glastonbury with headlining set
Glastonbury crowds on Saturday night with a triumphant headlining set on the Pyramid Stage. The band kicked off the show with new song ‘Hurts Like Heaven’ and thrilled fans with an accompanying firework display.
Streams of coloured paper also fell from the roof during ‘In My Place’. As he sang the closing lines of the song, Chris Martin laid down in the paper. “Please forgive us for playing some new songs,” he said. “Someday they will be your favourites.”
The band used guitars that had been customised, ranging from electric ones painted in different colours with writing, to an acoustic which was painted dark with lettering. After performing ‘Shiver’, Chris Martin said that it was the first song that they ever played at Glastonbury, during their first appearance at the festival in 1999.
Before beginning new song ‘Us Against The World’, the frontman added: “Let’s imagine that this is about two young people camping. They’re covered in mud, but they love each other and they’re happy and they’re still here waving their flags.”
After leaving the stage for a few minutes upon finishing ‘Life Is For Living’, Coldplay returned and kicked off their encore with ‘Clocks’. Chris Martin sat by the piano to cover ‘What a Wonderful World,’ swapping out the lyrics to relate it to the festival. Their set was capped off with a quiet performance of ‘Fix You’. Illuminated in yellow light, Chris Martin led the crowd in a singalong, before the band joined in and more fireworks exploded. They closed their set with new single ‘Every Teardrop Is Like A Waterfall’.

I watched it on HD last night and I must say it was like being there! I only wish I had some Coldplayers around to sing and dance with:)
GPASUMF gave me chills, they rocked that song hard, and Mr. Champion has never hit those drums as hard before IMO. Personally, I didn't think they looked nervous, they had this show in the back of their pockets, pulling 19 songs out, 1 by 1, and giving it 100%.

What an amazing show last night, i watched the whole thing on BBC2 and they totally blew me away. I had to stop myself singing along cos everyone else in our house was in bed. They did seem pretty nervous to begin with but that seemed to disappear after the first couple of songs. They were all really going for it - i haven't seen Will hit the drums that hard in ages! Fantastic set list as well - i almost died when they started playing Shiver!! :shocked2: GPASUYF totally rocked, VLV, Yellow, In My Place etc were, as usual, massive sing-along anthems and the new songs seemed to fit in perfectly. Us Against The World was beautiful, despite the erm, hiccup, in the middle. But the way they just apologized and just re-did that verse made me love them even more, it was so sweet. :wacky:
I'm just so proud to be a Coldplay fan right now, i can't wipe the huge grin off my face. :D

With that being said...I love their humility. The music is great, but what I love most is who these men are at their core and how they seem to remain true to it, despite the fame.
I am an older woman (46), who saw them the first time at a small venue in my hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico USA in 2005. Coldplay Glastonbury set draws Beyoncé, Jay-Z, mixed reviews
Coldplay headlined the Saturday bill at England's Glastonbury Festival, and the writer for "The Guardian" could barely conceal his contempt as he damned their set with the faintest of praise and a handful of insults.
The review began with "It's not easy being the boy band U2 when the real thing played the night before" and suggested that "before they walked onto the Pyramid stage, Coldplay were Glastonbury 2011's forgotten headliners," with Friday's set by U2 and Sunday's Beyoncé appearance (with a rumored guest spot by her husband, rapper Jay-Z) drawing all the pre-game hype.
The writer then went on to write them off as "specialists in the kind of non-specific, one size fits all emotion that plays well in front of the Pyramid stage" and sniffed that "after the symphonic intro music and fireworks, no one cares that the opener, new track 'Hurts Like Heaven,' is basically a Walt Disney version of Arcade Fire's 'Keep the Car Running.' "
The critic for NME enjoyed it more, proclaiming it "a great set of the classics and some of the new tracks, and not too many Chris Martin cheese moments/air punches/odd marching band outfits."
And Beyoncé and Jay-Z apparently quite liked it. They were seen rocking out at the front of the stage in the VIP section during Coldplay's set. We'd tell you what Beyoncé had to tweet about it but her Twitter page still reads, "@BEYONCE hasn't tweeted yet," despite having drawn more 1.3 million followers to her page.
Before she caught the set, Beyoncé told the BBC, "I'm the biggest fan of U2 and I'm the biggest fan of Coldplay, they are genius, so I've spoken to both of them about my setlist. I'm so excited to share the stage with them."

I watched the concert Saturday and here are my feelings:
- I had kind of the same feeling than lafinion (comment in the news): they seemed happy but in the same time pretty nervous or what to play there. To me, they felt more relax at Rock Am Ring (those are the only shows I watched)!
- I still enjoyed GPASUYF rock version and Us Against The World. They should definitely be recorded and sold :D I also still enjoyed the extended version of Life Is For Living! And ETIAW is still a great song to finish the concert, so joyfull!
- I enjoyed they played Shiver (I liked the rocking guitar on the bridge) and Everything's Not Lost
- I liked the crowd singing along (how many people were there? A lot!)
- I liked Chris improvising lyrics on What A Wonderfull World
- Major Minus makes me think of some other song(s) and I don't know why but it's bothering me
- Charlie Brown is growing on me!
- I liked the stage design (with those circles) and the lights (the ones on the pyramid for the last song were pretty awesome!)
Thank you again to people who found links to watch the concert so I was a part of it too ;)

Not to be overly critical, but I was jugely dissapointed by the performance. The setlist was choppy, and not well thought out. I hate that they played nothing from X&Y except fix you. They were really uncomfortable and visibly so throughout the entire performence. In essence, there were enough bad vibes to run a hoodoo factory, which completely ruined the whole experience for me.

Yes, it's too bad they've kind of put material from X&Y on the backburner, other than Fix You... would have liked to see them perform The Hardest Part, or Talk. Only so many songs you can play during a show though! (X&Y was arguably their least liked album too)

Returning to headline the Pyramid stage for a record breaking third time, Coldplay arrived at Glastonbury 2011 with a bang.
Opening with ‘Hurts Like Heaven’ accompanied by a firework display, Coldplay stamped their authority on Worthy Farm and then decided to walk all over it with the emotional ‘Yellow’ and ‘In My Place’ following immediately. Continuing the theme of a “greatest hits” set, ‘Shiver’ and in my opinion the most beautiful song ever written – ‘The Scientist’ shone in a set jam-packed full of crowd-pleasers.
The pounding ‘Violet Hill’ was well-received by the 100,000+ crowd who were already lighting flares and clambering onto their chums’ shoulders, and ‘Everything’s Not Lost’, their first performance of the track since 2005, went down equally well.
Although on new song ‘Us Against The World’ Chris Martin “fucked up” (in his own words) and started a whole verse over, they still managed to pull it out of the bag and make a mistake sound promising. Not many bands can do that.
Encouraging as much crowd interaction as possible, on a number of songs “it’s your turn” was shouted by Chris, who left a crowd chanting the chorus of ‘Viva La Vida’ for their encore. Returning for a final three songs, ‘Clocks’ was belted out by the band and the heartfelt ‘Fix You’ was note-perfect; the crowd sang louder than Chris.
Closing on ‘Every Teardrop is a Waterfall’, a regular Pyramid Stage was turned into pulsating multicolour pyramid with various colours throbbing in the shape of a triangle, accompanied by fireworks to see the band out. Taking no less than three bows arm-in-arm, Chris Martin and co. walked off stage in the knowledge that they’d probably just performed the best set of their career.

because X&Y was bad
I'm very happy they included 4 parachutes songs and just 1 X&Y song (even if Fix You is not the best choice in musical terms, it's a very emotional song)
I think you also saw a different show... bad vibes? really?
It was great, probably a 10/10 show except for ETIAW which sucks.
Hope they add Amsterdam to their shows

i was actually very pleasantly surprised with the concert. I thought that charlie brown stole the show. The best i've heard it sound so far. It's also nice that they've been mixing up their sets a tiny bit (shiver, enl etc.) But can they just play amsterdam already!?
Watch on TV and I thought it was a stellar performance. I know some think that Chris seemed stiff & nervous but I thought he was just toning down the goofiness. I don't need him rattling on about some craziness (as entertaining as that can sometimes be, I think it feeds the haters). He kept the jumping and trashing around at a respectable pace so that his voice didn't suffer. He only asked how everyone was doing 10 times instead of his usual 50. :P All in all, I think this venue is really important to them and they treated it as such. To me, they looked like a band that knew the world was watching and they had something to prove.

Shouldn't Chris playing that acoustic guitar at the start of Charlie Brown, like he did on Rock AM Ring?
Because I hear it, but he's not playing.

Why isn't it happening next year? The organizers have a "break" every few years to allow the land to recover. Plus with the Olympics happening in London next year, the toilet/police resources will be strained already. If I remember correctly, the break was supposed to be this year but they decided to hold off one more year for those reasons.

Hate to be the one guy to say it but I was less than impressed. His voice lacks the power of Dave Gahan, Tom Smith from Editors or even Bono. I found the whole performance pretty dull. I came on board with the last album but didn't like the new songs except for 'Charlie Brown'. Watched the Queens of The Stone Age set today and there's a band that actually 'do 'rock... 'Sorry...

Glastonbury 2011: Beyoncé, Coldplay and Janelle Monáe album sales soar
The artists along with other acts who performed at Worthy Farm over the weekend all received a huge boost in sales.
Sales of Coldplay's Every Teardop Is A Waterfall and their other albums rose by 1290 per cent while Mumford and Sons' Sigh No More jumped 1400 per cent and Janelle Monáe's The ArchAndroid was up by a staggering 4928 per cent.
Monáe, most famous for her hit Tightrope featuring Big Boi, won an army of new fans after performing a bonkers gig at Glastonbury which featured a 14-strong backing band.
Meanwhile, U2's albums received a boost of 747 per cent while and sales of Beyoncé's LPs including her newly released album 4 rose by 713 per cent.
Roger Greensmith, Amazon.co.uk music and MP3 manager, said: 'Demand for albums following Glastonbury performances has been really strong for a lot of the artists at the festival this year.
'Beyoncé timed it perfectly with her closing performance having an immediate effect on not just her new album released today but her back catalogue as well.'

By late evening I was ready to relax, and turned on BBC2 to see Coldplay at Glastonbury. I've listened to Coldplay more than any other band in the first decade of this century. I wasn't disappointed last night - they were on top form, serving up all the favourites, mixed with new songs from their forthcoming album. Particularly wonderful was their sequence of three encores. "Clocks" got 'em going, then they moved into their anthem "Fix You" and finally a new song "Every Teardrop a Waterfall". Fantastic - and I couldn't help noticing the parallels with religious occasions like pilgrimages. Crowds with a common purpose, music full of feeling, an overwhelming sense of community. Chris Martin even repented at one point of having just made a mistake. I love many kinds of music - always have. This was sheer enjoyment for the thousands and thousands who were there - and for me. Fr M approves.

That's just a Glastonbury tradition, so to speak. If you look at videos of any artists' performance (at least at the Pyramid Stage) throughout the years, you'll see the same thing.

So is Vh1 gonna edit out the part where Chris screws up in UATW or are they allowed to play it even though he curses?
What I saw was Will screw up. With the lyrics "Like a river to a raindrop", to which instead he sang "Like a river to a rainBOW". He immediately recognized the mistake, but then tried to cover, until he met Chris' eye and the both started cracking up.
When the redid the song you can hear the emphasis that will places on raindrop.

Coldplay's Glastonbury 2011 performance was really memorable. Reminded me why I like the band so much, and what great songwriters they are.
Viva sounded better than it has done throughout the Viva Tour, and I loved all the new material
The highlight for me was the Chris/Will duet for Us Against the World - despite the mistake. The harmonising between him and Chris just equisite, on a par with Chris' live performance of Yellow at Mountain View, CA a while ago, which was done with just piano and violin.
I also loved the spectacle of the show. I always loved the huge shows U2 used to do in this regard - I thought their set list was quite muted by comparison in terms of spectacle.
Will: what a great voice man! Why have you been hiding it under a bushel? More of it please!

You name it, they Coldplayed it
IT is 12 years since a fresh-faced Coldplay first appeared at Glastonbury, with a performance in the New Bands Tent in 1999 only weeks after signing their record deal. But Saturday night's performance was also the third time they have headlined the main stage in a decade – such was their meteoric rise to fame and fortune. They were last here in 2005 following the release of X & Y and this time they were back with songs from their forthcoming, as yet unnamed, release. They boldly showcased Every Teardrop is a Waterfall right at the end of their encore, but it fitted right in and didn't fall flat as so many new songs played by bands do. Other new tracks such as Charlie Brown showed that the new album will be worth a listen.
But for fans of the old stuff – and there were thousands upon thousands there – Chris Martin and chums also reeled through their back catalogue of hits. You name it, they played it.
One of their encore songs was, perhaps predictably, the stunning Fix You, which Martin opened by singing altered lyrics from Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World, throwing in mentions of mud-splattered faces.
Even without such good music it was a fantastic show – with fireworks, confetti and amazing light displays. The crowd loved every minute of it, as did the celebrities spotted watching the set – including Martin's wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, and last night's headliner Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z.
It was a spectacular performance and the reason why this band will no doubt be back time and time again to deliver an incredible show to the Glastonbury masses.

It is SOOO great! I haven't watched all the songs yet - but it is so exciting as if I were there:
1. They played What A Wonderful World!! Oi!
2. Love the outfits design – Chris wears a blue top with grey/dark pant while the other three wear the grey/dark top with colorful pants, haha
3. Love the high speeding cloud in Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall as if Chris is flying like a superman.
4. In Us Against World, lovely, Will joined Chris as a duo – he shall sing out more then - comparing to Chirs, a bit shy I guess, haha! There is a break and a restart, no Minus for this wonderful performance though.
5. At the end, fans sang the Ohhhhhh "waves" to see them off. Gwyneth smiles so happily with lots of light. One of the most beautiful moment shared by all "Co-latives" - Thanks!!!
I might come for more. God, it is much much better than KC one - but I still heart that as that's the only live I saw. Maybe I shall make the Glastonbury as part of my travelling plan in the near future!

I'm finally able to see it thanks to the link on Megavideo...
So far it's been awesome, especially Yellow with that absolutly stunning sing-a-long.
Also liked that part where they lost a bit of credibility on "Lost" when Guy stops pounding but the sound itself continues haha.

It was a bit shameless wasn't it, because he didn't even bother to pretend to carry on playing? I think a lot of us already knew it, but it makes you start to wonder how many other parts of the show are just backing tracks...

I've been wondering for some time how much of the show is backing tracks... And I don't really see the point in Lost... I mean, I think Guy could really play it, it's not like extra hard to play, so I just don't get why you're gonna put a backing there. Anyway.

I think a lot of it is backed, and it's quite easy to tell after watching loads of the shows. I don't mind really, most of the time - I know they want it to be a 'perfect' sound, and that most people won't notice, and in that sense it's theatre over musicality. But all that's broken when Guy stops pretending to drum the part he's meant to be playing - even to those of us who already know/guessed :laugh3:
The funny thing is, the band are best (for me) and also look most comfortable when it's just them and their instruments on the actual songs :)
