At the moment I've been playing Politik alot. That's song's just got such a beautiful, heavy, bassy feeling. I'm not sure how to describe it. Shiver's another favorite of mine. Also, if you haven't tried it before, I Ran Away is pretty fun to play.

You mean, favourite coldplay bass lines or favourite bass lines in general?
Lemme see... fav coldplay...: Shiver is a tricky one, but it's really cool... clocks is the best one cos it is easy to play, and it rocks.
I don't like the politik bass though, cos it's kinda boring. And oh, i never tried the i ran away one. Do you have a tab?
And oh, i almost forgot... sparks has a good line too. It is so sweet.
Now... Cool non-coldplay bass lines...
I like radiohead's there there... and bones... and paranoid android...
And muse's Hysteria, stockholm syndrome and uno.
Oh, and travis' flowers in the window has one of the coolest bass lines ever.

Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Oasis - Go Let It Out
The Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - As Sure As The Sun
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Rise Or Fall
Rage Against The Machine - Sleep Now In The Fire
The Beatles - Day Tripper

nice list man! Everything's not lost has such a sweet bass line. And the radiohead basses that you listed are brilliant.
Can you play the paranoid android one? Cos i've been trying to play it for a few weeks... ok, actually, a few months. lol And man, that bass is the devil!

In honesty, I'm actually a guitarist, but I occasionally play the bass. This has worked to my advantage I guess, because I can play lead guitar pretty well so I've transferred the technique across to the bass. I don't find it all that hard, but when I started learning the lead guitar part it took me a few months to get it nailed - now I can play it blindfolded.
Don't give up - keep going and eventually you'll get there. The bass is probably the hardest part of the song!

My dad is a great bass player (a lot of people say he is) and he said that the bass player actually follows the drummer a lot, by playing a note everytime the drummer hits the bass drum.
Is this true?
He's the only one who's ever told me that, but I can actually kind of notice it. Especially DMB's "Crush."

Fav song to play: Come as you are - Nirvana
I find boring to play now but amusing - Seven nation Army

i doubt it
for most decent bands the guitarists and vocals follow the bass not the drums
so the bass keeps the time for most of the part
CityandColour
16-02-2004, 04:59 AM
I think he's wrong too.
The only songs I can really hear it in is DMB's "Crush" and "The Space Between."
But, I was just thinking... maybe that's why it's called a "bass" drum.
Hey, Eric, didn't you like the bassline for Incubus's "Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Long Song)?"
mycdplayerisbroke
16-02-2004, 06:04 AM
yeah it was cool
i heard like a live version of it with no sax solo
my friends who like incubus say that the new guy sucks but idk
oh and the bass drum...
idk
prolly not
becaue bass is like a sound not an instrument you know? (well it is but...)
CityandColour
16-02-2004, 06:13 AM
Hmmm... I think that "Deep Inside," has a similar bassline. Keep in mind, I think. I don't know much about bass....
I have to agree with your friends on the new bass player. I think he sucks. He just doesn't look right with them. They need to bring back the old bass player, who I think is actually my favorite bassist....

I'm not called Brian. The dog in my avatar is called Brian. My real name is Ryan - even though it sounds similar, I can assure you it did not influence my decision to have a dog named Brian in my avatar.

Ah, this thread owns. it's been a long time since i last posted here... so yea, my favourite songs to play...
Radiohead - i might be wrong (cool lil bass line. not as cool as the guitar riff, but still...), and where i end and you begin (it's soo awesome. i cant even describe it). Blur - girls and boys (man, i have so much fun playing it... it's scary)
And the big winner...
The Strokes - Reptilia.
Gotta luv it. seriously.

Yea, i had a hard time searching for the last nite tab, so then i gave up and searched for a guitar pro file. And i found this really sweet, totally accurate file, but now my guitar pro tells me that i cant open it cos i have to update the program. gah. i play a lot of coldplay songs on piano, guitar, and bass. the ones i can play on bass are:
one i love
moses
rush of blood to the head
the scientist
murder
lips like sugar
green eyes
god put a smile upon your face
clocks
amsterdam
daylight
warning sign
thats all i can remember. i think i've forgotten a few but i'll post those for now

Yea man, i hate how you have to wait for like, 3 mins till you actually start to play the bass on amsterdam. It is a cool bass line, but isnt worth waiting for, you know what i mean?
The scientist kinda bugs me too, since you only have the piano and some guitar for the first 1.30 minutes, and then the bass is kinda boring after that
Ok, these two and politik probably are the only coldplay bass lines that i dislike.
The ones i like to play are gpasuyf (especially in the ending of the chorus. I luv the way it goes back to the verse riff), clocks (its getting kinda old though.) and everythings not lost (imo its the sweetest coldplay bass line)
Moses bass sounds cool too, i'll see if i can find a nice tab

ah, gpasuyf isnt hard at all. oh well, maybe I got lucky and found the right tab in my first try, who knows? Anyway, here's the tab i use. the only tricky part is the final of the chorus.
the verses and the chorus are easy and really cool to play.
