Rock Werchter is proud to announce two new names. And these are two huge acts, indeed. Both COLDPLAY and IRON MAIDEN have confirmed that they will perform at Rock Werchter 2011. They join the ranks of KINGS OF LEON and THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS who had already confirmed at an earlier stage. Soon to be announced: more top acts, solid upcoming talent and great names. At the Rock Werchter residence, a new grand cru edition is in the making. And that's how it's supposed to be. More news at a later stage.

Iron Maiden are co-headliner on the Main Stage on Sunday 3rd July. Currently on their global 'The Final Frontier' in support of the album of the same name which hit the No 1 slot in 28 sales charts around the world. In Belgium, they missed out on the #1 spot by a hair's breadth, although their second spot was their best ever in the Belgian charts. The band's first ever non-UK concert was during a festival in Belgium in Kortrijk in 1980.

They join the first two acts announced Kings of Leon, and The Chemical Brothers who have already been confirmed for Belgium's biggest rock festival which takes place in the small village of Werchter in Rotselaar, Belgium, from Thursday 30th June to Sunday 3rd July 2010.

Tickets for Rock Werchter 2011 go on sale at 9am on Saturday 4th December, priced as follows:

I was really close to the stage last time they played. Saw Elbow, Bloc Party and The Killers before them, so the waiting didn't bother me too much. Really great atmosphere and not too crowded in the front. I do think the rest of the festival has become way too crowded the last couple of years. Same goes for Pukkelpop.

I do have to say that I thought all their festival gigs in Belgium so far have been better than their arena shows.

Don't worry, Werchter doesn't sell out that fast.

There is only one band confirmed for Saturday, so most people wait untill they know more names. 80 euro is a lot, if you're not a real Coldplay fan like us.

I remember however last time Coldplay came, it sold out in a few weeks, but then The Killers played the same day and they have lots of fans as well.

I was at Werchter last year , we decided to go only 1 month before the event and there were only 3 days passes remaining....too expensive.... so we found tickets on e-bay more expensive than the initial price but "when we love, we don't count the cost." ;)

@Denise... just a warning.. Lowlands doesn;t usually sell out for months either, but this year it sold out in 2 hours... I have no idea what the sudden interest was but it's weird...

as for werchter, 2 years ago I bought tix in the end of februari, it then sold out somewher in april, but suddenly a few tix became available and my friends were able to get tickets that way..

and just to add:
I thought Elbow was absolutely amazing, so were the Killers and Coldplay(duh), Amy mcdonald really surprised me, after that fiasco she had the year before at pinkpop... and bloc party I can;t stand so I couldn;t give you a fair opinion...

From Brussels you have to take the train to Louvain (Leuven), just a half an hour trip for 6 or 7€, then from Leuven you have free festival buses to Werchter...

jup, going to try the same thing. It's a bit of a wait, but it's not that bad. Probably an hour or 4, but you'll be full of adrenaline and you won't have any troubles staying awake :p + with good company time will pass very very fast

I was front row at Werchter 2 years ago. Ok, I couldn't see Will, but he's not really the one I want to see.

The pushing really wasn't too bad. I never felt like I was going to lose my spot at all. I was so happy making it to the front row that I didn't care about anything else.
Maybe we were just lucky with the people around us. If you get pushy people, it will be much harder.

You are right about the second barrier tho, I'm probably going to try that for Pinkpop coz I won't be arriving that early.

I'm going with some of my friends and maybe my brother, depends if he'll win a ticket, but seeing the chances, he probably won't. It's a contest by Humo. I went to Werchter in 2009 combi with my friends, and it was amazing, especially Coldplay. They blew me away. And I've got a feeling that it's going to be even better now (shouldn't get my hopes up too high of course).

See you all there, I'll be the one with the clothes and the hair... Well one of the 80 000. I didn't manage to get the front row last time, and I probably won't this time either, I'd want to, but I won't be alone to decide whether we'll wait in front of the Main Stage all day. You don't really need to buy your foodtickets in advance, but they're cheaper if you buy them before the festival.
Be warned if you want to exchange the food ticket vouchers on Thursday though! The scanners they use for the foodtickets are the same ones they use to scan the tickets. Two years ago, there was a huge chaos at the entrance, so they had to use all available scanners. As a result, there was only one counter left (far away from the mainstage) where you could exchange your vouchers. You had to queue for at least an hour to exchange your voucher. Last year, I don't think there were any problems. And if you only go on Saturday, there won't be a queue.

In all the years I've been going, I never had any problems with bringing food in. And for girls, security is even less strict I think.
Drinks can cause more problems, but they never took anything away from me either. I've never seen them take orange juice cartons, so that's what I always bring along. A camelbag is also an option. You can always fill that up on-site.
They also distribute water at the front of the mainstage, but if it's cold or raining, they may not do this. But usually they do.

I have never seen anyone sell wellies as far as I can imagine. There may be a stall outside that sells it, but I wouldn't bet on it. Anyway, even if you find someone who sells it, I'm sure it's much cheaper if you buy them now in a regular store. The same goes for ponchos! Always much more expensive if you buy them at a festival.

I think the last shuttle bus runs one hour after the last gig, but I've never taken one myself. Keep in mind that it can take a while to leave the festival site after the last gig. It's always very crowded.

Another random tip. If you want to be at the front of the mainstage, go queue at the right side of the stage. It's always less crowded. If you want to be at the front of the Marquee stage, go for the left side.

Are you going for four days or just Saturday? If you only go on Saturday, I would just park my car at a parking site in Werchter and would not take the train or bus. There are absolutely no traffic jams to get there on Saturday, and there's enough parking space available. You'll maybe have to walk a bit far (or you can bring along a bike), but I still think it's less hassle than parking your car in Leuven.

I'm sure you'll still find a parking spot in Leuven though. But I do know someone who's car got stolen there during the festival. Of course, that can happen anywhere.

Will you be staying at the camp site or do you plan on going to Leuven every night?

It was hell trying to get there on Thursday last year by car. It took some people 5 hours to get there. In previous years, it was also pretty bad, but for some reason it was even worse last year. I don't know why. The other days, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

If you stay on the camp site, you can leave your wellies in your tent I guess? There are lockers on the festival site, so you can leave your wellies there if you want.

The weather is very unpredictable. I've had heatwaves, cold weather, light rain and torrential rain (legendary Kraftwerk gig in 2005 that ended with a huuuuge thunderstorm - at first I thought the lightning were special effects). And quite often, you get all kinds of weather during those four days. I do have to say that the rain has never ruined my experience. It's rare to have 4 consecutive days without rain here in Belgium, but it never rains 24/7. :P
Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. :P

By the way, I only wore my wellies one or two days at Rock Werchter. The last couple of years, I can't remember a lot of mud. Even after the rain. Some good (but not new obviously) shoes should do.
We also don't have that wellies tradition they have in the UK. :-)

You should take line B at the train station in Leuven. It's right at the station. Line A will drop you off further from the entrance, so it's best to take line B.

At night, you just take the same bus back to the station.

Personally, I would take the bus the first day (avoid traffic) and then go by car the rest of the days. I think that would be the fastest option.

It will be a bit tiring getting to Brussels every night, but on the other hand, you'll also sleep a lot better than you would at the camping site. So I guess that makes it even. :D

That Kraftwerk gig was so cool. I was standing on an elevated stage outside the Marquee tent (there was no room left inside of the tent), and I was looking in awe at those special lightning effects. It really created a special atmosphere (especially during the song Radioactivity). And the moment they ended their set, all hell broke loose and I realised those weren't part of the show. Five minutes later, everyone was covered knee deep in mud. It was completely dark, everyone screaming. Ah, sweet memories... :P

It got really bad when a lot of Coldplay fans showed up at the entrance of the front pit. All of us were crammed together for over 2 hours.
When they finally let us in the front, many people just started pushing like crazy. I'm surprised noone fell.

I will leave for Werchter tomorrow. I'm not sure if I will make it to the front line for Coldplay, but I'll try to be as close as I can.

Two years ago I'm sure they didn't clear, but I won't be really surprised if they do it now. It won't be the first time they change. I think two years ago was the first time we had to queue up to get close to the stage, in an enclosed zone.
