OFFICIAL IDEA:

Ok if we get enough people, the idea would be to send in a festive photo of yourself, your family, etc. that I would gather into a video. You can also request to add some text on your picture or anything else special! :D If you are willing to participate, just check yes above and say your name so I can add it to the list below. We are trying to find an estimate on how many people and it would be good to know by about the 5th of December! THE DEADLINE FOR PHOTOS IS SUNDAY DECEMBER 12!

List of people:

hi
I say video!

Oh, yeah, we could do it in a powerpoint video type thing!
I didnt even think of that.

yep, one picture after another with music and it would be easier to make and coordinate and to send it to cause you upload it to YouTube and post the link.

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:24 AM
I will post my idea on here too:

We all take photos of ourselves in front of our Christmas lights, or holding a sign with a Christmas greeting (essentially a large Christmas card all on one side of the paper), or wearing a Santa hat, whatever you want.
Then someone (presumably Technicolor Liver, since he offered in his original post) puts all the photos (or videos) together in video and sends it to Coldplay!

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:24 AM
I say both because I have Final Cut Pro and it would be soooooo easy for me to put everyone's video/picture together and put it on a DVD! :D

Paulinha coldplay
30-11-2010, 01:25 AM
It's not expensive send a christmas card for another country!
I think we all can send them, no?:\

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:25 AM
We could set it to Christmas Lights!
(ie having Christmas Lights playing in the background because it is so epic)

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:26 AM
Yes on Christmas Lights! :D
And I'm not sure how much it would cost to send it!

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:27 AM
Could we not email them the file? Or do you think it would be too large?

laga
30-11-2010, 01:28 AM
sending a christmas card would be too difficult to organise cuz it would have to be like last time, someone would have to collect them and and give them to the guys and I don't know if someone at their HQ would be willing to do that, or if it would be alright to send lots and lots of individual cards from different parts of the world to the Beehive, it could look messy.

Understand... :(

So, are you thinking in a video? With our pics?

laga

you could e-mail the link and upload the thing to rapidshare or youtube if it's a video

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:29 AM
Ok so I think we should send eCards and videos.
So they can send a postcard virtually or a video?

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:30 AM
NEWEST IDEA: Send a DVD/Youtube link to Coldplay with our pictures/videos.

Does that seem good?

Paulinha coldplay
30-11-2010, 01:31 AM
How it works?

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:31 AM
I think if anyone sends an ecard, that can just be on their own. We should just keep it as a video with pictures, and actual video clips.

laga

Ok so I think we should send eCards and videos.
So they can send a postcard virtually or a video?

not to sound rude, but I doubt they have time to open hundreds of e.cards, but a 5 minute video with pictures would be more likely to work.

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:32 AM
Well I was thinking that it could be a postcard style picture with their picture on the left and a little bit of writing on the right? Does that make sense?

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:32 AM
Yeah, come to think of it, maybe we should cut out the video clips and keep it to photos only.

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:33 AM

coldplayisawesome
30-11-2010, 01:33 AM
sending a video composed of pictures would be cool, or a giant picture of our pictures

Paulinha coldplay
30-11-2010, 01:33 AM
A video with our pics!! That's enough!

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:35 AM
But don't you want your picture to say anything?

kjones31
30-11-2010, 01:35 AM
If you did a video with the postcard thing, it would take forever! Try reading all those messages, maybe keeping it much more simple where people take a single photo, anywhere where they are celebrating the holidays, and if they want hold up a card saying whatever (Peace, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Let it snow.. etc)

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:35 AM
They would love to see pictures of all their beautiful/handsome fans!

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:36 AM
Ok here's an idea. Maybe I can just add a little sentence credit on the photo saying "Merry Christmas from Bob in Brazil." Or something like that but whatever you want.

indeed, i think keeping it simple like this would be best.
and then the video could just have a title slide that says Happy Holidays or whatever

I say it's too soon to make another cping project (sending things to coldplay) and there's no time to organize a good thing

Paulinha coldplay
30-11-2010, 01:37 AM
Noo, it's a pic with us and our christmas trees, or other things, I don't know! ahuahuaa

that's what I'm thinking of, your christmas picture (you can hold a sign with ashort message, or add it on paint or photoshop) and then put all the pics together in a video. It could be done with Windows Movie Maker or something.

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:38 AM
Would that be a lot of work for you?
If it's too much, everyone could always hold a little sign that says their name and where they live.
edit: or just photoshop their own message in, so that it's less work for you. Plus it also cancels out the possibility of mixing up photos with names.

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:39 AM
No not too much! :D
Depends on the deadline because I start Christmas break on Dec. 18th so depending on when we would try and send it, I could easily do it! :D

laga
30-11-2010, 01:40 AM
I could put the pictures together using Windows Movie Maker

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:41 AM
I kind of want to edit it too but let's discuss that part later. :D

Technicolor Sparks

Lucky! I finish on the 8th, but I have exams after that until the 20th. :disappointed:

I say it's too soon to make another cping project (sending things to coldplay) and there's no time to organize a good thing

but this isn't such an epic project, it's more simple and we're not involving them directly cause we wouldn't be sending anything, just a link to a video.

Lore

Anyway, things like these take time, that's why I said that. Even to organize the secret santa which is between coldplayers or the awards (which are totally online) take like 3 months

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:42 AM
Maybe we should let Anthony edit, because he took the initiative to actually make the thread and such. :P

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:42 AM
Yeah the only hard part is getting the link to them!

laga

you can do it! :) and if you have a better programme great cause WMM does not have so many effects.

Paulinha coldplay
30-11-2010, 01:43 AM
But it's a very simple project, just to make us happy at the christmas!:)

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:43 AM
Can't you just email them the link??

And you should set a deadline. People don't need ages to take a photo, so if they don't get it in on time, then they just won't get to be in the video.

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:44 AM
Yeah I have Final Cut Pro which was used to edit Napoleon Dynamite!

NEWEST UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need a deadline to send in photos (possibly videos) so I can edit!
Are we clear on the actual project idea?

Lore
30-11-2010, 01:45 AM
yeah but sending them stuff constantly would make future projects less exciting for them D:

this^^^and a link can be sent by e-mail to Debs or to Anchorman and it can be put here and on Facebook. It's not impossible for them to find out.

Yeah but this isn't a huge project like postcards it's just a little Christmas gift thanking them for everything ESPECIALLY the boat trip and the Q&A's! That was such a generous act even though it's only for 100 of us.

Paulinha coldplay

I don't think so...:\ We're so amazed with the song, with everything!

edit: PFFA project was 2008
and this one would not be that huge :\
it would not make it less exciting IMO

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:47 AM
We should probably have the link sent to Coldplay by a week before Christmas (that way we know for sure that they haven't left for holidays yet. )
So that puts us to December 18th at the latest, which is a Sunday. But that's a weekend, so maybe we should have it to them by the Friday, which is December 16th?

And depending on how long it would take you to put together the video (let's say it takes 5 days, just in case something comes up), photos should be in by December 11th?

Yes? No?

Paulinha coldplay
30-11-2010, 01:49 AM
For me that's ok!
And how many people will to participate?

laga
30-11-2010, 01:49 AM
I say yes, the editing is what takes longer, taking a picture and sending it just takes about an hour!

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 01:49 AM
Yes! :D
That's sounds super good!
I think we should also try to tell someone who is trying to meet them at the Bakery so they could do it directly.

If we could find someone in London who would be willing to burn the link to a DVD then that would be awesome!

Paulinha coldplay

I'd rather wait for an awesome idea and not just a random video. Something which means time and dedication from us and they would appreciate and notice. Not something prepared in just a few days

You should attach a poll to this thread to get a much more accurate number figure of who would want to participate, and I think keep it to photos, video is to much.

of course you can, I just don't see the point :blank: but it's just me I guess

it's almost december, I'd rather wait a little and make a great thing instead of forcing this and do it quickly without getting great results

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 01:58 AM
Anthony, maybe you should add an update in the first post to let people know exactly what the project is. That way people will know what they have to do, when the deadline is, etc.

Technicolor Liver
30-11-2010, 02:00 AM

This. . . it's not a bad idea, but in all honesty it needs more time than we can give it as Christmas is so close. . . :\

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 02:01 AM
I would say December 11th or 12th?

laga
30-11-2010, 02:01 AM
I don't think it's that bad actually, if you want to wait it's fine...
I'd be willing to participate because if done properly, it could work really well. It could be done, not as a super project but as a thank you for the Christmas Light song and video and for taking Coldplaying into account when making it. It does not have to go unnoticed.

Technicolor Sparks
30-11-2010, 02:02 AM
I think it's just a nice little type of Christmas card, letting them know how much we appreciate the new song, the boat trip, and all that.

Just because it's small doesn't mean they won't enjoy it.

I don't think so...we can get that many people, by tomorrow those who are now sleeping would be able to see the thread and we'll know if it's worth the try making it or not, but if people are interested I think they would join, especially if they have not met the band in person to thank them...

yes, that would be good. To update what this is about. By tomorrow we'll know if there a decent amount of people to make this work. (or let's wait til Wednesday, maybe after they hear the song they'd be more willing to do it :P )

It's all been left to the last minute for this:

had you came up with the idea a month or so ago then it could have been all arranged properly.
plus, it's not really unique anymore, we need to think outside the box and do something a little more original. :)

This project is really exciting and I wanna thank the person(s) who had the idea! :)
This forum and fandom are awesome (just saying)

it's almost december, I'd rather wait a little and make a great thing instead of forcing this and do it quickly without getting great results

I have to agree with Lore though.

Even the SIMPLEST project takes time. Because we're thousands of people in here and it takes time to organize something with everyone!

You'd also have to be a bit more specific about what you really wanna do. (maybe put a link to a bunch of photos/videos you'd like our project to resemble, so that we can have a more precise idea?)

If you want everyone to take a picture of him/her in front of his/her Christmas tree (at least this is what I understood?) I wouldn't be able to do it cause in my family our tree arrives 3-4 days before Christmas. This can be a difficulty for other people. I'm just giving an example. :)

But I'd LOVE to show Coldplay our recognition and gratitude for everything they've given us and are still giving us (tomorrow's the big day!!! can't wait for our little Christmas present :))
So thanks a lot for the idea!!! :)
But maybe it'd be better to organize it another time. :)

I'd be glad to do something but I think it will be tricky. We might need more time.I know I can't photograph myself in front of my Christmas tree because I'm in uni and I'm not going back home until the 22nd and I won't have access to the internet there, or very little access.

I don't mean to sound like an elitist downer or anything, because I really like people thinking creatively and working together and all that for such kind and generous things :D.

But...this is *kind of* how the Postcards project started with Lore...something for Christmas, if I remember correctly, and we started planning that in like October or something. I just think it's too late in the game. Yes, I don't deny they'd appreciate something small just as much as they'd appreciate something large, but it's not about the size or the thought or anything like that: it's about simply leaving enough time to DO it properly. And I'll tell you that the Postcards Project took a lot of time and effort and planning between me and Lore and lots of others--I spent more time on helping to put together that project than I did on my university work that semester :P. Because I wanted to, of course (I hate uni :P), but I'm just saying that it takes a lot of time and effort and this deadline is raaather close.

I also think it's a very cute idea, but it's just...kind of been done (that's the elitist part :\). I'd love to participate in another project like Postcards because it was so much fun and so rewarding in tons of ways, but I think if we do something like that again, it should be a wholly unique idea...and maybe a bit farther down the line, because it becomes less special when we present them with stuff every year or so. It's less of a surprise, and that's a big part of the specialness, if you ask me.

Sorry if that sounds mean or anything, I just think it needs more time and thought for it to come together in any sort of way :\.

yup, it was the very beginning of October, wasn't it? It was when they announced the Prospekt's tracklisting, I remember :P it took so much time and effort to pull it together, and it involved getting help from Coldplay HQ (thanks, Debs!) and everything... I think we should just hold off and wait until LP5 gets closer and they give us more inspiration- perhaps a song called "Chocolate on our Doorstep", for example, which would tell us exactly what they want us to do for them :P

Haha, I pulled all-nighters while we worked on PFFA, not because of my work, but because I couldn't get off the project thread  Jaffa cakes...

And I remember spending a lot of time waiting for various emails from Debs...oh, memories :wacky:

Anyway, my point is that we started to plan this in October so we could have it done by Christmas, and in the end we had to extend it to January anyway for various reasons, so you can see how long it really does take.

First of all, no idea what Jaffa cakes are but you all seem obsessed with them, so they must be good! :P

Joking aside, I really got involved in this cause I thought it would work and it was a good idea to thank the guys for these last few days and all the surprises they’ve given us as fans and also as a community. I have not been around here as a member for long, therefore I don’t really know how the whole PFFA project worked. I wasn’t here and I could not follow the day by day progress, so well, basically thank you for pointing out the lack of time thing.

I think in a way it was taken into account, hence the idea of doing something in a virtual way, since it would be easier to coordinate. I wasn’t the one who initiated this project of a project (or whatever you want to call it :P) but I think it was never meant to be as ambitious as the PFFAP. It was something simpler, smaller.

Now, I understand your reasons for not agreeing with it and that’s why I think it has been a bit of a disappointment seeing this might not work since we got excited with it at first. The thing is, if something is going to be done, I feel it should have the consent and the blessing of the majority of the community since that’s why, even if we are all different, we are all here, I guess for the same reasons and we want the best for everyone. I still think it could be done, if the people involved are really committed to it and we get lots of people willing to participate. However, if it is as it is now, then I think we should wait, since I wouldn’t like to be part of something that doesn’t represent us all.

The lack of time might be a very serious issue and well, basically that’s it. I think the person who came up with the idea did it with the best of intentions at heart and in a genuine attempt to thank the band for all we have got in the last few days, even if some of us did not directly take part.
If it is not now, I hope we could really do something beautiful and sincere in the future.

Sorry for the super long post :shame:
