Good evening. Following last week's announcement that Coldplay will headline Germany's Rock am Ring and Rock in Park festivals next year, we're pleased to announce another three 2011 festival dates for the band.

Rock in Rio (http://www.rockinrio.com.br/) is a big music festival that started in the city of Rio de Janeiro during the 80´s. It was also held in Lisbon and Madrid. In 2011, Rock in Rio will take place in its original home, Rio de Janeiro during the last week of september.
Rock in Rio has been the largest rock festival in the world, with 1.5 million people in the first edition, 700,000 in the second, about 1.2 million in the third, and about 350,000 people in each of the 3 Lisbon editions.

The thing is, there´s this producer (Gabriel Simas - and no, he doesnt work with the Rock in Rio crew) that has been giving tips about the bands that will perform next year, and one of his tweets were:

Yesterday he annouced that Red Hot Chili Peppers would be one of the headliners and said that Snow Patrol and Coldplay would be there too:

Hours after that RHCP and Snow Patrol were confirmed for the 2nd day of the festival.

rumours of coldplay playing in any of they EU RiR (Madrid, Lisbon) have been around the last years, but never became true. :\

The Rock in Rio Card is available only for Brazilian citizens, you'll need a brazilian ID number to buy it. But don't be too sad. The Card is only a Christms pre-sale. There are only 100k for sale and you buy them now, and not until next year do you choose what day you want to go to, when the whole line up is confirmed.

The regular tickets will go on sale July 1st and you don't have to be a Brazilian citizen to get one.

They cost R$190 and R$95 for students.

I'd be glad to help you out with any other doubts there might be. If I end up not replying here, feel free to PM me. :)

600,000 snap up Rock in Rio tickets

RIO DE JANEIRO: Rock in Rio may be more than a quarter-century old, but the mega-music festival is showing few signs of age with some 600,000 tickets for this year’s incarnation selling out in four days.

The concert series is returning to the Brazilian city of its birth for the first time since 2001, with six shows set for late September and early October – and another event in 2013.

“The pace of sales surprised us,” Roberta Medina, vice president of the festival, said in a statement late Tuesday.

“Fortunately, today we have a different reality in the country, with a strong city that allows us to transform Rock in Rio into a biannual event. Fans can expect that in 2013 there is a new edition of the festival here.”

Sales began on Saturday, with tickets going for 117 dollars for each day of the show. Some 90,000 tickets were snapped up online in the first 10 hours.

The festival will take place September 23-25 and September 30 to October 2, and is set to feature more than 150 international artists and Brazilian stars.

Among the acts taking the stage this year: Katy Perry, Jay-Z, Metallica, Coldplay, Rihanna, Elton John, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Motorhead, Slipknot, Lenny Kravitz, Shakira, Mana, Evanescence, System of a Down and Guns N’ Roses.

The series’ first event was held in Rio over 10 days in January 1985, and by drawing 1.4 million people it is believed to be the largest rock festival in the world.

The next editions were in 1991 and 2001, before the series ventured overseas, with several Rock in Rio concerts held in Lisbon and Madrid.

It was truth until Rock in Rio's organization decide to sell all the tickets on 2 days, and now they are completely sold out.

The only way to buy tickets now, is to buy from other people, and the majority who is selling them want the double/triple original cost of the tickets price.

The tickets are sold out. There are people selling them online, you risk it being a scam and paying way too much money for it.

There are a few contests going on that will give you tickets, but I guess you have to live in Brazil to participate. (they involve signing a plan with a telephone company or being a student at a public school)

There will be more contests in the future. I'll try to post them here when they come along.

... as you found, they are sold out. You can find people selling it about 3 times or more of its original price (like R$250 [brazilian real]).

Are you an adult or less than 21 years old? If you are 21+ you'll need a kind of ticket called "INTEIRA" (pass for people older than 21+).

It's highly possible that for work reasons I'll travel to Brazil in September-October, and of course I would love to see my favorite band once more... the thing is that I don't have a ticket and I know they are completely sold out, and even If they wouldn't I'm not sure if I could go and I won’t be until a few days before the concert, because I don't know exactly the days I'm going to be there and besides I'll be in Sao Paulo and I don't know If I'm gonna be able to go to Rio that weekend. So the question is, how difficult is to get tickets near the date of a concert?? For example here in Mexico there is always a lot of resellers outside the venue the day of the concert, although sometimes they sell the tickets at ridiculous prices, another thing that happens here is that ticketmaster (practically all concerts tickets are sold there) release some tickets even the same day of the concert... So anything like this happens in Rock In Rio??? Or It'll be almost impossible for me to get tickets???

For example here in Mexico there is always a lot of resellers outside the venue the day of the concert, although sometimes they sell the tickets at ridiculous prices, another thing that happens here is that ticketmaster (practically all concerts tickets are sold there) release some tickets even the same day of the concert... So anything like this happens in Rock In Rio??? Or It'll be almost impossible for me to get tickets???

This year's edition of the Rock In Rio festival, which will take place September 23rd - October 2nd at its real home, Rio de Janeiro-Brazil, will be streamed live via YouTube for fans outside of Brazil (for the brazilians the transmission will be via MultishowHD and Globo.com).

Coldplay will start at 00:20h (local time (Brazil / GMT -3:00)).

Although it's definitely worth trying, I heard someone saying (yeah I konw it was probably just exaggerated gossip) that in the last weekend at certain moment there was a 24 hr traffic between Rio and Sao Paulo... and if Coldplay performance ends at 2:15 am and my fly from Sao Paulo to Mexico leaves at 8:30 am (and it's recommended being at the airport 3 hours before)... definitely it's not a good idea :(.
The hotel thing is tempting but I have already met them twice in my country (they always stay in the same hotel there too) so I think I'll wait for the third one when they come back to Mexico

Well lately it has always been the same setlist with very minor changes to 1 or 2 songs. If you have watched most of their last festivals then I'm not sure if you are going to want to watch the same songs played over again, but I am watching because I wouldn't want to miss a surprise debut of any new song from their album they haven't played. I will still be glad even if they don't play any new song because seeing them live every time is something special :P

Yeah I know what you mean. I think it depends on your internet speed. I have a 20 mbps download speed, but the video quality gets kind of bad for a few seconds. You know how internet speed can be random at times!

I haven't listened to Maroon 5 for a while though that performance was pretty awesome. Really loved how Adam Levine involved the crowd in the last song. 20 minutes to gooooooo.

Mana's singer sad that he is friends with Chris, so I guess that coldplay have already heard Mana's music.

Oh cuz I thought they met when coldplay went to play in Mexico for the viva tour, and the singer had gone to see coldplay perform, that's why I thought maybe coldplay had not heard Maná's music yet.

Idk, it just makes me happy to know they are friends..cuz its like my two worlds collide. I like music in spanish and in english so yea don't know how to explain but its just cool :cool:
