I assume everyone here's into passionate male vocals, this being a Coldplay board... If so, run (RUN!) to your nearest CD retailer and pick up "Grace" today!!! You're sure to fall in love with it...

Hello Fifi!! Yes, you should know about Jeff..he was one of the most talented male musicians out there but tragically he drowned and died. His voice is truly exceptional and if you really want to hear some great songs, download or buy the album "Grace" and you too will fall in love with him...maybe.. :D

hehe hello again!
this thread is turning into just pictures and its all my doing, whoops!

how about some lyrics-

Last Goodbye
(Jeff Buckley)

This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
But it's over
Just hear this and then i'll go
You gave me more to live for
More than you'll ever know

This is our last embrace
Must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Well, maybe it's just because i didn't know you at all

Kiss me, please kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know it makes me so angry 'cause i know that in time
I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye

Did you say 'no, this can't happen to me,'
And did you rush to the phone to call
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind
Saying maybe you didn't know him at all
You didn't know him at all, oh, you didn't know

Well, the bells out in the church tower chime
Burning clues into this heart of mine
Thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memories
Offer signs that it's over... it's over

I've loved Jeff Buckley for ages (before he died). I'm reading his and Tim (his dad)'s biography at the moment, it's really interesting. I especially love 'Grace' (the song), 'Dream Brother' and 'New Year's Prayer'. His music is so haunting...

:D yeah you should have a look for it.
It's really well written and researched. Set out so its a chapter about tim (jeffs dad) then one about jeff, then back to tim again and so on. so their lives are set out next to each other.

And while you're at it have a look at 'A Wished For Song' by Merri Cyr. If you havent already got it, its a book full of beautiful photos she took of Jeff and little stories about him told by his friends. It's really, really lovely.

A little bump for the jeffy thread-

Lover, You Should`ve Come Over
(Jeff Buckley)
Looking out the door i see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water
And maybe i'm too young to keep good love from going wrong
But tonight you're on my mind so you never know

When i'm broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it
Where are you tonight, child you know how much i need it
Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun
And much too blind to see the damage he's done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one

So i'll wait for you... and i'll burn
Will I ever see your sweet return
Oh will I ever learn

Oh lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

Lonely is the room, the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come

It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her
It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Well maybe i'm just too young
To keep good love from going wrong

Oh... lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

Well I feel too young to hold on
And i'm much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage i've done
Sweet lover, you should've come over
Oh, love well i'm waiting for you

Lover, you should've come over
'Cause it's not too late

Everybody Here Wants You
(Jeff Buckley)
Twenty-nine pearls in your kiss
A singing smile
Coffee smell and lilac skin
Your flame in me

Twenty-nine pearls in your kiss
A singing smile
Coffee smell and lilac skin
Your flame in me

I’m only here for this moment

I know everybody here wants you
I know everybody here thinks he needs you
I’ll be waiting right here just to show you
How our love will blow it all away

Hmm, such a thing of wonder in this crowd
I’m a stranger in this town
You’re free with me
And our eyes locked in downcast love
I sit here proud
Even now you’re undressed in your dreams with me

Oh, I’m only here for this moment

I know everybody here wants you
I know everybody here thinks he needs you
I’ll be waiting right here just to show you
How our love will blow it all away

I know the tears we cried
Have dried on yesterday
The sea of fools has parted for us
There’s nothing in our way
My love

Don’t you see, don’t you see?
You’re just the torch to put the flame to all our guilt and shame
And I’ll rise like an ember in your name

I know I, I know I
I know everybody here wants you
I know everybody here thinks he needs you
I’ll be waiting right here just to show you
Oh let me show you
That love can rise, rise just like embers

Love can taste like the wine of the ages, oh babe,
And I know they all looks so good from a distance
But I tell you I’m the one

I know everybody here, well, thinks he needs you
Think he needs you
And I’ll be waiting right here just to show you.

YAY FOR THE JEFFY THREAD!

Dont know whether or not you all know about this new cd thats coming out, but this was in the jeff newsletter -

-----------------------------------------------------------

LIVE AT SIN-E DOUBLE CD
ALBUM UPDATE

Okay, cats and kittens, here's the latest low down on the status of the Sin-e' project. The release date has slipped a little, again, and we can't guarantee that the new date of July 29 will stick, so we're not going to (we don't know why it changed and we ain't gonna ask! It's all good, as my son Corey says). However, here is the long- awaited track listing: CD#1
1. Be Your Husband
2. Lover, You Should Have Come Over
3. Mojo Pin
4. Monologue: Duane Eddy & songs for lovers.
5. Grace
6. Monologue: Reverb and the Doors
7. Strange Fruit
8. Night Flight
9. If You Knew
10. Monologue: Fabulous Time for a Guinness
11. Unforgiven (Last Goodbye)
12. Twelfth of Never
13. Monologue: Cafe Days
14. Monologue: Eternal Life
15. Eternal Life
16. Just Like a Woman
17. Monologue: false start and Miles Davis
18. Calling You
RUNNING TIME: 1 Hr. 19 Mins. 29 secs (00:79:29)

CD#2
1. Monologue: Nusrat, he's my Elvis.
2. Yeh Jo Halka Saroor Hai
3. Monologue: I'm a ridiculous person.
4. If You See Her, Say Hello
5. Monologue: Classic rock radio.
6. Dink's Song
7. Monologue: Musical Chairs
8. Drown In My Own Tears
10. The Way Young Lovers Do
11. Monologue: Walk through walls.
12. Je N'en Connais Pas la Fin
13. I Shall Be Released
14. Sweet Thing
15. Monologue: Good night, Bill.
16. Hallelujah
RUNNING TIME: 1 Hr., 17 Mins. 42 Secs. (00:77:42)

The DVD material we're preparing for a third CD that will be slipped into the case of the first few thousand copies will include a previously unreleased interview with Jeff and excerpts of a live performance taped from a Sin-e' show in 1996, *not* taken at the same time as the Sin-e' recording sessions above, as reported in Billboard Magazine and elsewhere.

Get your hankies ready, friends. If this one doesn't move you, you need an embalmer. Or, maybe it could raise the dead (from my lips to God's ears). In any case, it's the most powerful program released to date, with the exception of the album Grace, itself. I promise you're gonna love it. MG

For anyone whos interested this is from a fansite -

Thursday night, May 29, Buckley was hanging out with a friend at the Mud Island Harbour marina, half a mile inland off the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee. He and the friend were listening to Led Zeppelin on a stereo and playing a guitar when Buckley waded, fully clothed, waist-high into the water. He started singing and laid back on the water, when a boat went by causing waves to come in to the shore.

The friend on shore turned his back to move the stereo away from the incoming waves and when he turned around, he couldn't see Buckley. After a 10-minute search, the friend called local police. The Memphis police department began dragging the waters that night and continued to do so - for two days afterward. Harsh rains hampered their search efforts. They also checked, in vain, on the chance of him having wandered out the water. Friends were contacted and people in the area of the marina questioned. They came up with nothing.

Jeff Buckley simply vanished.

He was found three days later by passengers on a steam boat, who saw a body in an Altamont T-shirt tangled up in some branches on the riverside, near Harbor Island. A insignificant amount of alcohol was found in his system and his death was ruled accidental.

He was 30 years old.

He's only the greatest artist ever? Well, was... I watched a documentry about him today and I started crying

Anyway... his father was more into folk (Tim Buckley), Jeff was a rocker... soft rock, actually. The kind of music anyone would love.
I suggest you download 'Grace', 'Everybody Here Wants You', 'Hallelujah', 'Last Goodbye', 'Lover You Should Have Come Over', 'Dream Brother'...

He was amazing. I think he's the only artist who ever touched me so deeply with his lyrics besides Travis.

as well as music it helps to find out about the guy, his biography and his music and his life up to 1997. Try a google search on Jeff Buckley, its very interesting :)

and he was singing Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love as he went for that fateful swim

Only found out about this one earlier today.
If only he hadn't gone down that river...

Another random fact; he and the guy he was with were actually lost and didn't know the way back to the studio so they stopped by the lake to relax for a bit.
And the river was so dirty and full of trash but Jeff went in anyway... the only reason that stretch of river was not a recognised accident black spot for swimmers was simply because no-one who lived there would've dared go in.
This could've saved Jeff

Lilac Wine is one of my all time favourite songs...

"I lost myself on a cool damp night
Gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotized by a strange delight
Under a lilac tree

I made wine from the lilac tree
Put my heart in its recipe
It makes me see what I want to see
and be what I want to be

When I think more than I want to think
Do things I never should do
I drink much more that I ought to drink
Because it brings me back you...

Lilac wine is sweet and heady, like my love
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, like my love
Listen to me... I cannot see clearly
Isn't that she coming to me nearly here?
Lilac wine is sweet and heady where's my love?
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, where's my love?
Listen to me, why is everything so hazy?
Isn't that she, or am I just going crazy, dear?
Lilac Wine, I feel unready for my love..."

It's been seven years since he left

Looking out the door I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water
And maybe I’m too young to keep good love from going wrong
But tonight you’re on my mind so you never know

When I’m broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it
Where are you tonight, child you know how much I need it
Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun
And much too blind to see the damage he’s done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one

So I’ll wait for you... and I’ll burn
Will I ever see your sweet return
Oh will I ever learn

Oh lover, you should’ve come over
’cause it’s not too late

Lonely is the room, the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come

It’s never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It’s never over, all my riches for her smiles when I slept so soft against her
It’s never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It’s never over, she’s the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Well maybe I’m just too young
To keep good love from going wrong

Oh... lover, you should’ve come over
’cause it’s not too late

Well I feel too young to hold on
And I’m much too old to break free and run
Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage I’ve done
Sweet lover, you should’ve come over
Oh, love well I’m waiting for you

Lover, you should’ve come over
’cause it’s not too late

His death really was such a terrible tragedy. He really was a musical genius, with perhaps one of the most perfect voices you could ever hope for.

I think the fact that most people know nothing of Jeff Buckley is quite a beautiful thing. I mean, when Kurt Cobain special anniversaries are all over my TV its a little, over-exposed.

Jeff Buckley's popularity these days is purely by word of mouth. Hes never on TV or Radio anymore so its people who really loved the guy keeping his music alive, its basically one kid telling another kid to listen to Jeff Buckley and eventually he'll love Jeff too. Its great like that, its as if, the legend of this man just keeps growing.

JEFF BUCKLEY ’s debut album ’GRACE’ is to be re-issued with extra songs.

Released on August 22, the album will be released as a three-disc package with two CDs and a DVD. Disc one features an original album newly remastered by George Marino, while CD2 will feature 13 non-album rarities and collectors items, either recorded in preparation for the ‘Grace’ sessions, or immediately after when Jeff and his band began touring to support the album’s release.

Included on this disk is the often bootlegged song ’Forget Her’, which was set for inclusion on the original record, but taken off at the last minute to be replaced by ’So Real’.

The DVD will feature four video clips, archival studio recording footage, interviews and live performances.

This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
But it's over
Just hear this and then I'll go :
you gave me more to live for,
more than you'll ever know.

This is our last embrace,
must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Baby, maybe it is just because I didn't know you at all.

Kiss me, please,
Kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know,
it makes me so angry 'cause I know that in time
I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye.

Did you say "no, this can't happen to me,"
and did you rush to the phone to call?
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind saying,
"maybe... you didn't know him at all."

Well, the bells out in the church tower chime
Burning clues into this heart of mine
Thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memory
Of her sighs that, "it's over... it's over..."

Eternal life is now on my trail
Got my red glitter coffin, man, just need one last nail
While all these ugly gentlemen play out their foolish games
There’s a flaming red horizon that screams our names
And as your fantasies are broken in two
Did you really think this bloody road
Would pave the way for you?
You better turn around
And blow your kiss hello to life eternal, angel

Racist everyman, what have you done?
Man, you’ve made a killer of your unborn son...
Crown my fear your king at the point of a gun
All I want to do is love everyone...

And as your fantasies are broken in two
Did you really think this bloody road
Would pave the way for you?
You better turn around
And blow your kiss hello to life eternal

Oh...

There’s no time for hatred, only questions
Where is love, where is happiness, what is life,
Where is peace?

When will I find the strength to bring me release?
And tell me where is the love in what your prophet has said?
Man, it sounds to me just like a prison for the walking dead
And I’ve got a message for you and your twisted hell
You better turn around and blow your kiss goodbye
To life eternal angel...
Angel...

Angel...

Is Jeff Buckley a Christian?

CityandColour
12-06-2004, 03:52 AM
By the sounds of the song 'Hallelujah,' it sounds like he might be, or highly influenced maybe. It's weird, because I enjoy that song, but I usually dislike Christian music.

Well, I assumed he was after Hallelujah and especially Corpus Christi Carol, and his albums called Grace.

Hallelujah is not Buckley's song. It's Leonard Cohen's.

Hallelujah is not Buckley's song. It's Leonard Cohen's.

True, but Jeff Buckley did a cover of it. Rufus Wainwright also did a cover that was in Shrek :)

I never really thought of him as a Christian.

If he is, then I couldn't imagine him being a particularly good or dedicated one.

Like I said already, I've recently been checking out stuff from him.. (mainly from the 'grace' album)

And geez.. I tell you, he is like nothing I've ever heard before..

his lyrics, voice, etc (even though I don't like EVERYTHING he does. I'm newer to him, so I don't know everything)

how detailed and specific he is in his lyrics:

'I'm lying in my bed, the blanket is warm
This body will never be safe from harm
Still feel your hair, black ribbons of coal
Touch my skin to keep me whole'

'Love, let me sleep tonight on you couch
And remember the smell of the fabric
Of your simple city dress'

'Twenty-nine pearls in your kiss
A singing smile
Coffee smell and lilac skin
Your flame in me'

Just some examples of what I was talking about with really detailed, creative, and specific.
