Discussion thread for the above show.

<img src=http://www.coldplaying.com/images/coldplaynme.jpg ALIGN="Left" HSPACE="5" VSPACE="5" >Coldplay are set to play two secret shows this Christmas to raise money for charity, the official Coldplay site has <a href=http://coldplay.com/newsdetail.php?id=661 target="_blank">just announced</a> today. Exiled in the studio, Coldplay have decided to break cover in order to play two special British shows. The band have teamed up with homeless charity Crisis and will perform in two top secret venues. The <a href=http://www.crisis.org.uk/pages/crisis-hidden-gigs.html target="_blank">hidden gigs</a> will take place in <b>Liverpool on December 19th</b> <a href=http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73624 target="_blank">[discussion]</a>, before continuing in <b>Newcastle on December 20th</b> <a href=http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73625 target="_blank">[discussion]</a>. Early discussion on these shows is at the <a href=http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73623 target="_blank">Coldplay forum</a> now [thanks Craigie-J]

The shows will hold a mere 1000 people, an intimate show by Coldplay's standards. Taking place in co-operation with the charity, general tickets will cost Ģ50 and are set to <b>go on sale from 2pm this Friday (November 12th)</b>. In addition to the general sale, Coldplay are set to hold an auction of 200 tickets plus 30 meet & greet tickets for each gig. The prize includesearly entry, a champagne reception, the best seats in the house, meeting Coldplay, a photo opportunity and access to a VIP bar.

A star studded affair, the Newcastle show will be compered by Ant & Dec. Coldplay will be supported on both dates by the <a href=http://www.choirwithnoname.org/ target="_blank">Choir With No Name</a>, a vocal choir made up of homeless people and others helped by Crisis.

This is far from the first time Coldplay have hooked up with a charity. The band played a one off show for War Child back in January, which culminated in Coldplay and The Killers taking to the stage with Bono and Gary Barlow.

<i>A nice new picture of Coldplay (source: coldplay.com)</i>

<b>Here is Coldplay.com's statement in full:</b>

<i>Good morning. We're pleased to report that Coldplay will play two intimate Christmas gigs to draw attention to the problem of hidden homelessness and to raise vital funds for <a href=http://www.crisis.org.uk/ target="_blank">Crisis</a>, the UK charity for single homeless people. The <a href=http://www.crisis.org.uk/pages/crisis-hidden-gigs.html target="_blank">hidden gigs</a> will take place in Liverpool on 19th December and Newcastle on 20th December.

The venues will remain hidden until 24 hours before Coldplay step on stage. This gives gig-goers a small taste of the uncertainty faced by the thousands of homeless people who do not know where they will spend the night. Both venues have been hand-picked by the band for their intimate nature, and each has a capacity of around 1,000 people. General tickets go on sale at 2pm this Friday (12th November) from <a href=http://www.seetickets.com/hidden target="_blank">http://www.seetickets.com/hidden</a> costing Ģ50. There will be an allocation of general sale tickets available for Coldplay.com users to buy, using the code CP4CRISIS at the point of purchase. This allocation is available to all of Coldplay's online fans, wherever in the world they live (we obviously expect these tickets to sell pretty quickly). The rest of the general sale tickets will be sold to people living in and around Liverpool and Newcastle. Only those with a credit/debit card registered to billing addresses with the following postcodes will be able to buy these tickets:

Liverpool: L1 – L40, CH25 – CH32, CH41 – CH49, CH60 – CH63
Newcastle: NE1 – NE49, NE61 – NE71, SR1 – SR9, DH1 – DH9

Click <a href=http://www.crisis.org.uk/data/files/eligible_postcodes.pdf target="_blank">here</a> for a full breakdown of the eligible postcodes.

As well as the general sale tickets, there will be an auction of 200 general admission tickets available to anyone around the world. Plus, 30 meet & greet tickets will be auctioned for each gig, which will include early entry, champagne reception, best seats in the house, meet & greet with Coldplay, photo opportunity & access to VIP bar. The auctions will run for one week from 12 November at 2pm, again via www.seetickets.com/hidden.

All proceeds from all tickets will go to support Crisis’ vital work for single homeless people. For more information on that, please head to <a href=http://www.crisis.org.uk/ target="_blank">their website</a>.

Good friends of the band Ant & Dec will be travelling home to Newcastle for Christmas and have offered their compčring services for the Newcastle night. Supporting Coldplay on both dates will be the <a href=http://www.choirwithnoname.org/ target="_blank">Choir With No Name</a>, an acclaimed vocal choir made up of homeless people and others on the fringes of society, including clients of Crisis. I havenīt eaten anything since the news about the gig appeared...

Does anyone of you remember what were the final prices for the auctioned tickets for Exeter?

Edit: I found it, 800 for a pair...
But there were only 5 pairs of them, this time it should be 200 pc.

I can't find the information about how much the tickets sold at the official charity auction tickets went for, but some selfish, horrible people bought tickets and sold them on ebay and they went for over Ģ1000.

I love the double meaning of the thread name. :laugh4:
If you don't know that the charity's name is "Crisis" you could easily misinterpret the title!
Like Coldplay were a wandering pest or something.
Although for many it'll be an actual crisis trying to get tickets on Friday...
Fingers crossed for everyone trying! Good luck!!

You can only apply for tickets if you live in Liverpool or Newcastle (or know someone who lives there) I think. :\

Why does it have 2pm? I'm working till 3. :( I need to try to get someone to do it for me but most people I know are working/ at uni.

The annoying thing for me is last year when the Exeter tickets were on sale at 9am, I couldn't log on 'cos I was stuck in class, but 2pm would have been fine.

This year, I'm bloody free at 9 and trapped at 2.

I managed to get a seated ticket for the Liverpool concert :) Interestingly the site came online at 1358 - so mine was fully bought before they were even meant to go on sale.

Does anyone have any ideas how are we going to be notified of the venue? I read that it's not being released until an hour before the show, so I'll already be up in Liverpool (ie away from an internet connection so emailing would be no good)

I got one ticket for standing too! The site surely opened a few minutes early, though I went astray at another option for the residents...

I'm afraid how to find the venue because I'll be there in Liverpool one day before, and I won't have any device to check web site... Not a dang phone.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to plug - for those wanting cheap accommodation in Liverpool, the Hatters Hostel appears to be the cheapest at Ģ18.80 for the one night of the 19th. Accessible 24hrs and comes with a light breakfast. It's also directly in the city centre.

Be aware that it's a hostel (not a hotel) and I presume you'll be sharing a room with some total strangers, that is unless you book a private room.

since they said that the gig is "intimate", does this mean that they will still play with their full instrumentals? or will it just be a few acoustic guitars?

I think it will be a full gig, intimate probably describes the small capacity

I think it'll be here too. There's a fair amount of seats and a standing area, it makes sense. I also saw a "cryptic" message on a Liverpool news website, which mentioned the 18A bus route, which goes down West Derby Road which is where The Olympia is. Whether they knew or were just guessing though, I don't know.

At the moment the highest auction bid is Ģ525 and VIP Ģ1000. That's more than doubled within the last hour when I checked. Come seven days time they must surely be well past the Ģ2500 mark.

On Ebay there's already someone selling their two seated tickets for this show. Only Ģ1871.26 at the moment.

Who has that sort of money to spare?!

I just hope it was the first rush, the prices remained the same for the last hours.
And these are only the highest ones. It is a pity that we donīt know the lower bids.
There are 200 tickets, so the some of the lower bids may also be successful.

We will see in a few days...

I am a little confused by the auction at this moment.

The high bid, I presume, is the highest anyone has bid. Does that mean that lower bids would presumably get tickets?

I'm kinda interested in the VIP. I know it's crazy money, but once in a lifetime opportunity and am willing to get a solid loan for the troubles.

I still donīt get it, I was really concentrated, was on the website half an hour in advance, refreshed the site every half-second, was in the queue in two tabs, in one I waited and in the other one I refreshed constantly, then tried to fill in everything necessary as quickly as possible and still didnīt get it

Can I just throw a weird suggestion out there for someone to shoot down?

What's the capacity for St Georges Hall? It's central, more likely to be free and would have great acoustics for the supporting choir...

I got a standing ticket .. now my question is .. normally which section is closer to the stage? the standing or the seated section?? i've been to lots of concerts and sometimes the seated section is after the standing section .. will this apply to coldplay??? when i saw them n Houston n 2008 i bought VIP tickets and dunno if there were any standing tickets .. i just hope as soon as i find out where the Gig is, to be the first one n line lol!

RedGirl76
14-11-2010, 09:57 AM
I've been wondering about the whole layout myself. You would think the seats would be behind the standing area or up on another level, but then the special auction tickets are supposed to be the "best seats in the house", so how does that work

Mimixxx
14-11-2010, 10:28 AM
I'd imagine best seats in the house will be the best of the available seats. So the seats closest to the stage or with the best view, will be the kind of seats they reserve for family, friends, famous people during regular shows.

Standing will still be at the front, but they're not going to offer a champagne reception and all the thrills then lump you in with the commoners squashed up against the barrier. :P

Denise
14-11-2010, 11:42 AM
The fact that most of the tickets are seated in Liverpool and all of them are in Newcastle, makes me wonder that maybe this year they're really gonna play an acoustic show?

I wouldn't mind it to be honest, but since this announcement was so unexpected anything will do :nice:

^There was probably more chance of winning the lottery.:dozey:
Actually, IMO, tickets for shows like this, when there are so few available, should be allocated in the form of a lottery.
They could give all interested parties until a certain time to apply, and then pick the names at random.
Any "unclaimed" tickets could then go to the next name chosen. That would be a much fairer way to do it.;)

mc_squared

The "rich" people don't count, because they can afford the inflated prices anyway.
It's the real fans that need to be in with a genuine chance of getting the "normal price" ones.

RedGirl76
14-11-2010, 09:54 PM
But with a lottery, with a guarenteed price, you'd also get loads of people who weren't really big fans applying just for fun. There's never going to be a method that pleases everybody.

I agree. I thought most tickets would only be available to people who live locally but by the looks of it, most people don't live anywhere near Liverpool. I'm not criticising anyone by the way, I'm just disappointed I didn't manage to get tickets.

Ooh... maybe a snowball fight then? That might be fun. And I can see that showing up in the Roadie #42 blog.

As far as the portaloos, that might be a question for the Oracle I suppose, if anybody wants to ask. If she answers, based on her answer, she might also give a hint as to whether it would even be worthwhile to queue for a long amount of time anyway. If all seating is assigned (and even the standing, who knows), or if the standing isn't in the front, it may not be worthwhile to queue for a long amount of time. She might give us a hint.

Hi,

what venue could it be if its not the theatre? Their seating plan has a "circle" too:

http://www.royalcourtliverpool.co.uk/VenueInfo/Royal+Court+Seating+Plan

And: Can anyone tell us nice places to on staurday to have beers and good music. Iīve never been to Liverpool...

Well, the theater is our best bet right now! :nice:

Don't know about places to go in Liverpool, though, first time for me too

If your after the touristy kind of trip then Matthews Street has a number of bars and places to eat.
The famous Cavern club is there and the new Hard Days Night hotel.

Liverpool One is a new shopping area in the city. Its a good place for a bit of a mooch about. There are a number of places to eat and drink in Liverpool One.

Concert Square is the main area of an evening, not so much for food but its were the club/bar scene is most popular.

The Albert Dock is again a bit of a touristy area. There are a number of very good places to eat and is a growing area with the new museum and the Echo Arena being built. There is also the big wheel, Liverpool's version of the London eye. Its a little out of the way but there are cabs all over the city.

You wont struggle to find anything really. As mentioned there are cabs everywhere and a pub on the corner of every road.

Hope all your travel's dont have any hitches.

Will keep you posted on the weather here.
Any Liverpool questions let me know.

Every single small charity Coldplay gig I've been to has been marred by damn snow! The War Child gig in Feb 2009 we had loads of late winter snow, Exeter last Christmas the travel was severely disrupted by snow, many people almost didn't make it due to the terrible travel conditions (me, Chris and Als included) and now there's loads forecast for this weekend. Damn me not actually being in Liverpool. Maybe I should go off "sick" and head up there tomorrow :wink2: :P

My main concern is the train ride from Liverpool to Newcastle. That CANNOT be delayed!!!

I know that it's probably useless (cause those tickets are golden :smug: so it might be too late to hope for one) but if someone happens to have a spare ticket, I'd be more than happy to help you with it! (this also applies for the Newcastle gig)

FOR WHO HAS GOT STANDING TICKETS (or anyway whoever listed for liverpool)

have you received a new order confirmation email? cause my friend has received it again yesterday, it's the same of the one we received on 12november when we booked the coldplay.com tickets.

I have NOT received it again, do you? it's simply the same mail..but this is useless..Anyway i don't think it could be important.. Once i have the tickets confirmation of the day i bought them on november the 12th, i don't need anything else i suppose. So i don't know why did they send confirmations again to my friend.. doh..

Met Office:

Snow showers will become increasingly frequent and heavy across Scotland, Northern Ireland and north Wales by the end of Thursday and will then extend south to the rest of Wales and southwest and central areas of England into Friday. Eastern coastal counties will also see snow showers for a time until early on Friday. Accumulations of 5 to 10 cm are expected in general, but with possibly 20 cm in places by Friday evening. Snow will be accompanied by strong north or northwesterly winds leading to some drifting.

This is expected to cause disruption to travel networks.

:( That's for the end of this week though, but still not good.

Just gonna have to wait and see I guess.

Well, I'm just mostly concerned with Saturday/Sunday/Monday. I'm taking the train from London to Liverpool on Saturday, so hopefully the tracks will be clear enough by then. But even if there is a delay, I should be okay... as long as I'm in Liverpool by Sunday morning.
And I'm planning to take a train from Liverpool to Newcastle early Monday morning, that's the more "critical" one since there is less time to negotiate with if there are delays. I haven't yet booked that train though, not sure which time I want to take yet: early, or super early.

* wonders if I should buy travel insurance *

Im doing the same london-liverpool train on Sat. The weather is so changable though, they only issued the severe weather warnings for today at 11pm last night...I think it's best to be prepared for it to be a nightmare getting there and then if it isn't, bonus. :P

I'm a worry wart by nature though, but with it being Christmas too...people starting to head home, the trains are gonna be packed to start with. Just gotta wait and see

I've been checking the forecasts every day since two weeks ago and each day was a different one for this weekend, tough usually they should be more reliable getting closer to the date..damn it, I've never been so worried about a trip, not even last year for getting to Exeter
