As most of you probably remember, last year we organized the secret santa exchange which was very nice in my opinion.

Are you guys interested in doing it again? I could co-organize it with the help of the lovely Alison :elf:

Considering the big amount of people interested we'll start to receive the messages with your details now!, we just need your name (just your first name if you want) and your address (be sure that we won't share any of your details, the only person who will know that will be your secret santa

Timetable
- Deadline for sign up:Midnight Monday 25th October
- Pairings drawn the week after
- Notification of who you are mailing to: weekend of Saturday 6th/Sunday 7th November
(dates subject to change)

Please aim to have your card arrive in December, ask your local post office for advice on how long your card will take to arrive. Last year some cards never arrived and some did during January so please try to send the card in time :)

This is list of the people who already said they wanted to participate (also included the people who said that maybe they'll participate, let me know if you change your mind). If you're not on the list, you still can join and send your details of course.

privacy is important, we don't share addresses and all the info from last year was deleted from santa's account :)

I can volunteer to help; I am motivated to help avoid what happened last year with some people (including myself) not receiving something from their secret santa. :disappointed: Although Alison (redgirl76) was nice enough to send me a sympathy card. :nice: I still have it hanging up in my cubicle at work.

Remember, although it's called Secret Santa, if you don't celebrate Christmas, you could send a general holiday card :)

Also, although some people did send a little gift to their recipient, the idea is really just to send a card - we want anyone to be able to take part and not have to worry about the cost of postage.

I think again, Lore and myself will try and make sure you get a card from as far away as possible. :elf:

But they don't know that you will be the one sending it, until they receive it. Hence, it is a "secret" who their "santa" will be. And then someone else will do the same for you.

I think this is a great idea. I mostly say this because I myself would probably get into a huge tiff with the 'rents over mail from someone they don't know from across the globe. They'd be like, "Ehhh? Violet, what kind of crap have you been up to? Don't you know stalkers are everywhere?"

The only snag is if you change your mind. A couple of people got in touch to say they could no longer participate, and we were able to make substitutions, but it seems one or two people just never bothered to send cards and that left people disappointed.

On the whole, it went really well, wasn't too much work for us (that's fair, isn't it Lore? There was a bit if typing but it wasn't too complicated), and this thread had such a lovely, positive vibe.

Our lovely little elfs did the matches last year. We had several people who just gave their first name last year and they all recieved their cards. I think one or two just went by their Coldplying username. All the post office need is the full address :elf:

You send a pm to SantaClaus account (an account we created just to receive those pm's because there are 2 users organizing this. Once we get all the addresses we'll send you a pm with your Secret Santa partner info and you have to send her/him a christmas card or something like that. You'll receive one from another person from far far away too

The deadline for people to PM their addresses is 25th October. We'll get pairings out as soon as possible after that - it took about a week last time.

The important thing is that people think about the card they're going to send but don't do it too quickly... or too slowly! Last year, a couple of people sent their cards as soon as they got their partner, which means people were recieving Christmas cards at the beginning of November. Meanwhile other people had partners thousands of miles away and seemed to think they could post their card on the 21st of December and it would still get there in time :facepalm:



And remember the golden rule...

The deadline for people to PM their addresses is 25th October. We'll get pairings out as soon as possible after that - it took about a week last time.

The important thing is that people think about the card they're going to send but don't do it too quickly... or too slowly! Last year, a couple of people sent their cards as soon as they got their partner, which means people were recieving Christmas cards at the beginning of November. Meanwhile other people had partners thousands of miles away and seemed to think they could post their card on the 21st of December and it would still get there in time :facepalm:



And remember the golden rule...


Please write the name of your country in the subject box

so we'll try to pair you with someone from far away

If you take a look at the list of particpants on the first post and can't see someone who you'd expect to be taking part, please give them a nudge today. It takes a while to make the match ups and we want to give you your pairings next weekend, so we really can't take any sign ups after the deadline has passed.

LORE- How did it go for those wanting to send a gift as well as a card ? Were there agreed upon "spending limits" or just whatever one chose to do on their own was ok?

there isn't a spending limit and you can send a little present if you want, but it's not like we encourage that because sending things to the other side of the world might be a bit expensive :P and the point of this is not to spend money. But if you want to do it you're free to do it :)
