So Michael Eavis has come out today saying that he has the 3 biggest bands lined up to headline next years Glastonbury festival.

"Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis confirmed to eFestivals that next year's Festival will be headlined by "The three biggest bands in the world. You won't believe who we've got." The farmer made the statement exclusively to eFestivals at Friday's Pilton Party 2010.

http://images.contactmusic.com/dn/glastonbury_855_18451186_0_0_6764_300.jpg

His daughter Emily, who also organises the event, clarified to eFestivals that the third headliner is not yet a signed and sealed deal but everything is now expected to slot into place. Because Eavis made this new comment so soon after he revealed he hoped to book U2, it looks likely that the third headliner will be the Irish act."

So who could the bands be at the festival which is scheduled for the 22nd to the 26th of June? The safest bets will be on Coldplay and U2. The latter considering have an 8 day break between their Anaheim gig on the 18th June and East Lansig gig on the 26th as part of their North American leg of the tour. As for Coldplay, well the Eavis's have made it no secret that they desire to see one of their favourite bands back for 2011!

So I'm going for

U2 (Friday)
Rolling Stones (Saturday)
Coldplay (Sunday)

They don't come much bigger than those three!

That would be interesting. I haven't heard anything about the Stones in a while, not since the Super Bowl they did.

I'd definitely agree with U2.

I'm not sure about Coldplay just because they're in the middle of recording their new album and I wouldn't imagine. Same goes for Radiohead who I thought might be a possibility and I think there could be a chance, but they would have to release their new album first (then again they have been working on it for a while)

I'd guess Paul McCartney as one of the big acts since he's been playing a bunch of shows all around the world.

I'd expect some sort of album from Coldplay by the end of June. My understanding that they are targetting a end of spring/start of summer releas which would fit neatly with Glastonbury. Could not be though.

yeah probably U2 not so sure about coldplay, but probably they'll release their album in may/june

And even though I'd love to see Muse there, it wouldn't make sense because they are not working on a new album.

Well they only announced for, this years festival, Muse back in February and U2 were announced back last November.

If as they say so, they've got two headlines sealed and the third headliner about to sign then I could suspect that we'll hear it within the next two months possibly before tickets sale on 3rd October?

Tickets for the 5-days including camping are £200, nearest airport is Bristol and National Express do coaches from there to the festival site I think.

There is one band which can be ruled out, that is Muse, cos it's very very unlikely they will headline 2 years in a row, this isn't T-in-the-puddle afterall ;)

It all depends on if I have the money. I didn't realize how big this festival actually is - http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/glastonbury/2011/

You have to register to buy tickets? I also didn't know they go on sale as early as October of this year.

Someone explain all of this to me; I'm slow

Register here - http://www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk/

Once you got your registration number your good to go, it's a successful anti-touting measure.

Tickets go on sale for £50 deposits on the 3rd October at 9am (could be a few minutes earlier) British Time and will probably go fast this year. For international sales I believe the period in which you need to pay your remaining balance is in late February (UK sales it's early April).

I think it's pretty nailed on for U2. New album planned for release in March. Possible rumours of another live dvd this time from one of their recent European shows later this year with rumours of further European dates to be added next summer scheduled to finish in Ireland, either in Dublin or Belfast. Probably Belfast. And yes - the UK is one of those countries rumoured to see U2 again next year.

Was confident about a Coldplay release before Glastonbury tying in nicely with the festival but now I'm not so certain if it is to be believed that the last couple of months in the studio weren't as productive as they thought it would be. Hopes rescinded there a bit. Could be that Eminem will headline alongside U2 and one of Coldplay, Kylie Minogue or Radiohead.

Friday - U2
Saturday - Eminem
Sunday - Coldplay or Kylie or Radiohead

'Biggest bands' vow as Glasto sales begin

TICKETS for next year's Glastonbury Festival go on sale tomorrow, with speculation already rife over who will headline the event.

Festival founder Michael Eavis says he has booked "three biggest bands in the world" for next year's event but their identities will not be revealed until after the event has sold out. Rumours have been circulating that U2, who had to cancel a planned appearance this year after lead singer Bono was injured on tour, will be one of the Pyramid stage headliners.

Other acts which have been linked include Coldplay, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Take That and the Rolling Stones – but Eavis would say only that they were "incredibly impressive".

He added: "I deliberately want to announce them after the tickets have been sold. It'll be on a par with this year, and possibly slightly better, even."

Mr Eavis said he had deferred his retirement and vowed to continue organising the world's biggest open-air festival for another ten years – by which time he will be 85. The Pilton farmer, who is preparing to mark his 75th birthday, has previously said the festival of 2011 would be his last.

But yesterday he insisted he was "feeling cock-a-hoop" and will now not retire next year – indicating he could still be at the helm for the 50th festival in 2020. Mr Eavis runs the show from Worthy Farm with his daughter Emily, 31. He said: "Maybe I've got another 10 years left in me. Emily will be in a good place to take the show on eventually."

Stevie Wonder, Muse and Gorillaz headlined its 40th anniversary this year. Mr Eavis indicated that one of this year's headliners was to be an American artist – sparking rumours it could be legendary singer Madonna.

Tickets for next year's festival, to take place at Worthy Farm from June 24 to June 26, go on sale from 9am tomorrow. Registration for tickets closed yesterday.

Once all those who have registered have had a chance to book tickets for next year's festival, registration will reopen on Monday. Those who have already registered on the site www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk will have a chance to book by paying a £50 deposit, with the remaining £150, including a £5 booking fee, payable next spring.

Report: Prince, U2, Coldplay for Glasto 2011

GLASTONBURY 2011 is lining up to be a real royal affair. PRINCE and rock kings U2 have signed up to top the bill. COLDPLAY are likely to fill the third headline slot too, with the final details being thrashed out. The festival isn't for another eight months but founder MICHAEL EAVIS has clearly been grafting hard masterminding the best music event in years.

Michael getting that line-up arranged has got me looking forward to next summer already.

Seven-time Grammy winner Prince is one of the best performers of all time but rarely graces these shores. His back catalogue is immense and hits such as Purple Rain, Diamonds And Pearls and 1999 will send the Pyramid Stage crowd barmy.

U2 are currently working with DANGERMOUSE on a new album - their 13th - Songs Of Ascent, and are likely to use the Glasto slot to show off their new tunes.

And CHRIS MARTIN's band went down a storm when they played the festival in 2005.

A source said: "Michael was very keen to get the line-up sorted early and is over the moon at securing such massive acts. He is a huge fan of Prince and has been trying to nab him for years.

"The fact it's been tied up so quickly is a big but welcome shock."

The source added: "Coldplay are currently in negotiations about taking a headline slot. "Michael has previously said Coldplay's set in 2005 was his personal favourite and is very pleased to be welcoming them back. "

"U2 were a fairly obvious capture. Michael immediately had his sights set on them after they were forced to cancel this year and they were very happy to oblige."

If I were Eavis I'd be wrapping BONO up in cotton wool. Emergency surgery on the frontman's back forced the Irish group to pull out of their Friday night headline slot this year.

GORILLAZ did a decent job of replacing them, but many felt something was lacking. A Glastonbury spokesman declined to comment on next year's acts, saying: "We never comment on rumours until the official line-up is announced."

Many farm folk feel this will be Michael's final hurrah before the festival takes a year off and he hands the reins to his daughter EMILY in 2013.

If that's the case, he'll definitely be going out on a high...

The Rolling Stones for Glastonbury Festival 2011?

Rumours that The Rolling Stones are set to headline Glastonbury Festival 2011 have been fuelled after the group's infamous Tongue and Lip Design image appeared on a Somerset website.

Fans noticed that the illustration that been posted on community site Pilton.com (http://www.pilton.com/pilton/festival.htm) and took to Twitter to post the news, which obviously ignited the gossip.

“Rolling stones at glasto?” tweeted Barratt1197‎, “seems to b hotting up!surely it can't happen?!can it..Facebook msgs today?pilton.com logo?3rd headliner buked 2day?”

Running with the rumour, Ben_Wood88‎ tweeted: “Listening to The Rolling Stones and praying that it's them who will be one of the big 3 headliners at Glastonbury this year”.

Late last year, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood said that he’d love to play Glastonbury.

Glastonbury Festival 2011 will take place at Worthy Farm, Somerset from 22-26 June.

U2 and Coldplay are strongly rumoured to be headlining the Friday (24) and Sunday (26) nights respectively, but there have been question marks over who will bring the Pyramid Stage to a close on the Saturday (25).

Organiser Emily Eavis took to Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/emilyeavis) herself to confirm that the third headliner had now been booked but speaking to NME, she said that the rumours of Prince, Coldplay and U2 weren’t 100% accurate.

“I can't say how many you'd get right, not yet,” she told the magazine, “But no, unfortunately you're not right.”

Beyonce and Rihanna are also among the acts rumoured to be performing.

well i'm not saying that other festivals arent a great experience. i'm just saying that glastonbury is one of the few festivals any where in the world that isn't at all dependent on its line up. the time it has taken to sell out Coachella has fluctuated in recent years relative to the quality of its line up like in 2008 which barely sold out had Roger Waters, Prince and Jack Johnson.

Haha, yeah, I guess that's what I meant. It's just not my reason for wanting to go to a festival, I guess, so for selfish reasons I'll be miffed if the lineup does involve U2/Coldplay/Rolling Stones/Radiohead/similar. I'd be willing to do the experience for the music, not really the other way around, but that's just me . Whiiiiich is why I've sold my soul to go to Coachella this year :P.

Rep: 'Stones have no firm plans to tour'

http://sharing.wxyz.com/sharefeed//photo/2011/02/04/wenn1807217_5_858_5_20110204004721_320_240.JPG

(KD&MJ/WNWCNM/LR)

A representative for the ROLLING STONES insists the band has "no firm plans to tour" in the near future, after a legal battle erupted over a potential 50th anniversary trek later this year (11).

Concert producer Michael Cohl, who has worked on many of the band's tours, was sued by bosses at promoters Live Nation in November (10) over allegations he breached his contract at the time he left his job at the company in 2008.

He then launched a counter-suit, claiming the firm's bosses have been attempting to "interfere" and "destroy" his bid to secure the promotional rights for a tour by the legendary band later this year (11).

The lawsuit has led to speculation the Stones will kick off a string of concerts in late 2011 in time to mark the band's 50th anniversary the following year (12).

But the group's publicist has now released a statement insisting no dates have been booked, saying, "The Stones confirmed today they have no firm plans to tour at this time."

Meanwhile, the rep has also distanced bandmembers, including frontman Sir Mick Jagger, from the legal spat, adding, "Following the end of the 2007 A Bigger Bang world tour The Rolling Stones became free from any contractual arrangements or agreements with Michael Cohl. Rep: 'Stones have no firm plans to tour'

Just because they don't have a tour planned doesn't mean they won't be doing Glastonbury. A tour's a tour. A one off performance is a one off performance. That said Rolling Stones will probably use Glastonbury as a precursor to future dates which will happen later this year or early next year which will coincide with their 50th anniversary. I still firmly believe it will be them. Fingers crossed.

Posted earlier in the Coldplay forumColdplay Officially playing @ Glastonbury

It's their first pilgrimage to Worthy Farm since 2005 - when they went down a storm.

Glasto guru MICHAEL EAVIS and his event organisers have been chasing CHRIS MARTIN and the lads to make a return - as Bizarre revealed in October.

And this week the rockers finally put pen to paper on the deal.

One massive outfit who will not be performing in Pilton are the ROLLING STONES.

Bash bosses had tabled a huge offer for MICK JAGGER's gang to make their festival debut at Glasto, which kicks off on June 22.

But after mulling over the deal for the past three months, the veterans have turned down the chance.

A source said: "Getting the Stones to Glastonbury has been high on Michael Eavis's list of priorities for a long time. He came really really close this time round.

"He came up with an incredibly tempting offer and Mick and the rest of the band were considering it closely but they ultimately decided to turn it down."

Still, Coldplay aren't too much of a shonky replacement. Their back catalogue is filled with anthems perfect for the Pyramid Stage.

And they're bound to get a massive welcome. UK crowds don't get much bigger than the 200,000 or so who squeeze into the Somerset site for the huge bash.

Don't believe anything until it gets posted on the official site. The Sun always make wild guesses "oh look Chris Martin was spotted with the Eavis' farm, they must be playing"

And when did 170,000 people (which includes the 30,000 odd staff whom work various jobs) turn into 200,000?

Disappointed at the rumours of Beyonce. Talented singer but....not the heavyweight three bands I thought we were getting after a year of speculation. But if the Rolling Stone said no and Radiohead can't do it (yes I would happily see them do Glasto this year) it's a disappointment.

Glastonbury is a hell lot more than the headliners, you have 20+ stages all playing various forms off music, some bands doing secret sets in smaller tents. It's 5 days of organised chaos, whom cares for 6 hours of "headline" acts?

thats true and that was much of the sentiment when jay-z headlined but the headline acts are the ones by which each years festival is remembered.

Beyoncé confirms Glastonbury slot

Beyoncé has confirmed that she will headline this year's Glastonbury Festival.

The singer was recently rumoured to be topping the bill alongside U2 and Coldplay at the event at Pilton Farm, Somerset.

Billboard confirms that Beyoncé will perform a 90-minute headline set on June 26, the final day of the festival.

"This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there," Beyoncé said in a statement.

"Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend. I'm pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy."

The Libertines have been rumoured to play another reunion gig on the Other Stage during the summer festival.

Ticket resale update
18 February 2011

A lot of you have been getting in touch to ask about the upcoming ticket resale, so we thought we'd post a little update. The resale is likely to be in mid-April after people have had chance to pay their balances. At the moment, it doesn't look like there will be too many cancelled tickets to go back on sale, though.

We'll let you know firm details of the resale well in advance, here on the official site.

Glaston-buried: Fans drown in sea of mud and the music hasn't even started yet

By Daily Mail Reporter (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/search.html?s=y&authornamef=Daily+Mail+Reporter)

Last updated at 5:37 PM on 23rd June 2011

Festival fans were contending with muddy mayhem at Glastonbury today after yesterday's torrential downpours turned the 900-acre site into a quagmire.

Every inch of Worthy Farm has become a mud bath as early arrivals gear up for the beginning of the main event tomorrow.

Welly-clad music fans put on brave faces despite hundreds of tents flooding and treacherous conditions underfoot.

Dare to bare: With conditions this bad, the only solution is...shorts. As small as possible, so there's less to get a soaking. Negotiating tricky patches with aplomb will be the order of the weekend for the best dressed festival goers

FESTIVAL FORECAST

THURSDAY: Worthy Farm saw some showers this morning, but these have now moved away leaving a dry day with lots of sunny spells.

However, it will still be breezy at times with temperatures up to around 18C. Tonight will be a dry but chilly night with temps around 11C.

FRIDAY: As the festivities begin in earnest they weather will be dry with more sunny spells.

Unfortunately as the day progresses the cloud cover will increase, meaning there is the chance of a shower in the afternoon and a wet evening looks likely – so wellies are definitely needed.

WEEKEND: The weekend weather is looking good with some warm temperatures in the low 20’s and even up to 25C on Sunday with more sunny spells – so time for the sun tan lotion.

It will be breezy but again the nights are looking dry with temperatures of 12C on Saturday night and 15C overnight on Sunday.

Glastonbury Festival organisers in tractors have been dumping tonnes of straw and bark onto the ground in a bid to combat the boggy conditions.

A week of wet weather has saturated the 1,100-acre site and turned large areas into a huge bog with mud up to eight inches deep.

Revellers were woken in the early hours of yesterday morning by torrential rain beating down on their tents.

But the rain and mud failed to dampen the spirits of the festival-goers - who took turns to dance and dive through the mire.
Egged on by his mates, 17-year-old student Tom, from Kent, performed headlong dives on demand to cheer up arrivals trudging through the sodden 900-acre site.
Countless efforts left him caked in mud from head to toe, with dairy farm sludge stuck in the braces on his teeth.

But he declared with a grin: 'If I run out of clothes, I'll just do it naked.'
His dives received roars of approval from hundreds of onlookers along with the group of friends he was camping with.

Best friend Callum Burgess, also 17, said: 'I'm supposed to share a tent with him but he can sleep outside. Look at the state of him.'
Chris Darch, 24, from London, said: 'It bucketed down with rain at about 5am and made the site look like the Battle of the Somme.
'It's not what we wanted but everyone seems to be making the best of it. The kids are playing in the puddles, the adults are dancing in it and one mad lad even performed a dive through the mud.'

U2 'TAX DODGE' PROTEST

U2's Glastonbury set will be interrupted by an 'unmissable' protest against the band's alleged 'tax dodge', campaigners vowed today.
Direct action group Art Uncut is plotting a 'visual spectacular' during the Irish band's headline appearance on the Pyramid Stage.
The protest is expected to involve a giant inflatable let off by the group. Placards will also be held up declaring 'Bono tax dodger' and 'Bono pay up'.
The group is staying tight-lipped over details of the protest but campaign member Anna Walker, 32, said: 'Everyone there will see it.
'If the BBC do not broadcast it, there is little doubt that it will have been an editorial decision.'
Fellow campaigner Charlie Dewar added: 'U2's multimillion euro tax dodge is depriving the Irish people at a time when they desperately need income to offset the Irish government's savage austerity programme.
'Tax nestling in the band's bank account should be helping to keep open the hospitals, schools and libraries that are closing all over Ireland.
'Bono is well known for his anti-poverty campaigning but Art Uncut is accusing him of hypocrisy.'

A total of 177,000 revellers are expected to attend the festival, which gets underway in earnest on Friday when the music starts on the main stages.

U2, Morrissey and Biffy Clyro will take to the famed Pyramid Stage on Friday night as the festival gets into full swing.

Coldplay will headline the main stage on Saturday night and Beyonce on Sunday. Acts appearing on other stages include Chipmunk, Chase And Status and Primal Scream.

Avon and Somerset Police said 36 arrests were made on Wednesday - the opening day - for a variety of offences including possession of drugs, theft and assault.
A quantity of drugs, some believed to be Class A substances and legal highs, were recovered and taken away for examination.

Inspector Chris Morgan said: 'We are pleased with the way the festival has been going so far.

'It is early days but reported crime is lower than the same time last year but our proactive patrols have made a higher number of arrests - demonstrating our determination to ensure that all festival goers have a safe and happy time here - despite the mud.'

There are eight regular police officers and 40 special constables patrolling the site at Worthy Farm near Pilton, Somerset.Diving face down through Britain's biggest mudbath, teenage reveller Tom Wilder ensured the Glastonbury cheers started early.
Clouds cleared over the Pilton hills last night, but the rain returned this morning and is due for a reprise later today - the best weather is not expected until Sunday.

More than half the ticket-holders for the sold out event will have squelched their way to the site by tonight. But early arrivals' efforts to secure prize camping spots were confounded by yesterday's monsoon-like conditions.
Hundreds of tents were flooded within a few hours as torrential downpours began shortly after gates opened and fans began streaming in.

That sinking feeling: One happy festival goer enjoys her mud bath, left, while this colourful character, middle, seems less impressed by the goo underfoot. Meanwhile someone else, right, looks as if he's had a bit too much of everything, not just mud

Campers hauling their bags and beers along the slippery thoroughfares were even told to pitch tents on hills to escape the worst of the wet conditions.

Marc Saunders, 31, from Bath, pitched his tent in driving rain with his five-year-old daughter Sam and wife Sarah.

He said: 'We say it's "go hard or go home". We're thrilled to be here, the place is magical - even in the mud.' Another early arrival, 19-year-old James Street, from Belfast, was caked in mud from head to toe after slipping in a puddle.

He said: 'I'm drenched, obviously. But it's great just to be here with my pals. Legendary place, legendary line-up. We're not interested in the headliners - there's so much more to see.'
The first of the main acts take to the Pyramid Stage tomorrow, when the wet weather is expected to return. Among a host of theatrical events at the site will be Glastonbury's own version of La Tomatina.

Other new elements for this year include The Spirit of 71 stage, with acts that played at the festival 40 years ago.

Beyonce, who fell in love with the Somerset festival after watching husband Jay-Z perform three years ago, is believed to have cleared her diary to party in Pilton over three days.

Rapper Jay-Z is even money with bookmakers Ladbrokes to join his wife on stage this Sunday.
When Somerset farmer Michael Eavis organised the first festival 41 years ago, he combined a typical pop festival with a more traditional harvest-type event.

So Glastonbury fans really are getting older! Gran proves she's no stick in the mud

If you think music festivals should remain the preserve of the young, look away now.
Undeterred by the mud, rain...and throngs of youngsters, this grey-haired Glastonbury fan pushed what appeared to be a walking frame through the crowds yesterday.
She and thousands more had descended upon the 900-acre site at Worthy Farm, in Somerset, which was churned up by a second morning of torrential rain.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/06/23/article-2007311-0CB25F2600000578-982_964x641.jpg Pensioner pop? A grey-haired woman pushes a walking frame through crows of young festival fans at Glastonbury yesterday

Many were left queuing to buy wellies, umbrellas and waterproof ponchos, but as you might expect from the older generation, this lady looked well kitted out.
The festival begins in earnest at 11am today when bands take to the main pyramid stage. Up to 170,000 are expected to attend
But although fans seem undeterred by predictions of another downpour tonight, the weather has already caused some problems. On-site medics have treated dozens – many of whom have hurt themselves slipping over in the mud.

As expected, U2's set was awesome. Very impressive indeed!
However, Bono should have done a "Chris" and sung "Where The Streets Have No Drain", "In The Name of Flood", or "Rainday, Floody Rainday"...........

Exactly what you would expect from Beyonce. Lots of razzle-dazzle, snazzy dance routines and glamour.
A huge anticlimax after U2 and Coldplay, and I fast-forwarded over most of her performance.
